Simpson's In The Strand
Guests can also enjoy classic cocktails in Knight’s Bar, an art deco cocktail lounge located on the first floor. It is the perfect place to enjoy either a pre-dinner cocktail or after-dinner aperitif.
Great food. Beautiful atmosphere and room. Staff was attentive but not overbearing. The carving trolley was outstanding and just adds to the classic feel of this classic establishment.
A wonderful atmosphere with a great musician and delicious food.
The wine we had (Siaurac 2010) was the nicest wine I have ever drunk.
We went in at around a quarter to 6 giving us plenty of time for a pre dinner juice.
The ambience upstairs is good, and there is a chess set should you fancy a game.
We were shown to our table by one gentleman who couldn't have been more polite, our waiter came promptly with some bottled water, and offered either still or sparkling. Bread and butter came next, and that was so crusty and fresh, I could have dined on that, starters was baked salt beetroot, simply divine, my partner is not keen on stilton cheese but the tiny drops of that complemented the main flavour of the beets impeccably.
Main Course next, well I had to have something carved at the table, and I went for the ham, my partner has a dislike for the colouring of the beef, and I didn't want to put her off, but it did look good! She opted for smoked potato knots... Now normally we would have a taste of each others dish, but not a hope in hell! I guess, and she did say it was delicious. Embarrassingly I had to mop the rich gravy up from my plate with the last of the bread!
Sweet came I had the chocolate orange, my partner had the crumble.
Two and a quarter hours later we had to leave as we were out for the Ceremony of the Keys, otherwise we'd have stayed for the pianist who was just loud enough to hear, but not so loud you couldn't speak to one another.
A definite return soon. Plus it's far better than the photos could ever show.
Great meal, met my expection and beef calvery was excellent.
The roast beef is to die for. The choice of wines good. Service first class.
Felt the tables could be a bit further apart and a talented patisserie chef might have made the desserts more tempting.
This restaurant was on our bucket list and did not disappoint. Great ambiance, excellent food and service. The roast beef carvery is what we went for and was exceptional
I was asked how would I like my beef cooked. I requested medium. When the meat was carved at the table is was rare.
With nearly 200 years of tradition you would expect quality and Simpson's does not fail. Beautiful restaurant, exquisite wine and food and impeccable service made this a wonderful occasion. Not cheap but more than good value. The beef roast, the house speciality, was sublime. I cannot speak highly enough of this establishment.
My favorite restaurant in London. Get the roast beef off the trolly!!
Great place to go after an Investiture at Buckingham Palace. The two best venues in the Country.
Excellent for pre theatre meal. We booked for 17.00 , had 3 courses and left by 18.45
A pleasant business lunch in a striking dinning room with good food and service. The roast beef was superb, one of the best roasts I have had for a very long time.
Just simply Simpson’s.
It’s exactly what you expect, classy, stylish and yet unassuming.
Certainly a “must” place to eat whilst visiting London!
From the outside the premises oozed class as did our reception table food drinks and service. The experience was marvellous and I look forward to doing it a again . One negative thing I’d forgotten though was that they were out of scallops, that said the alternatives were great .
Always have a wonderful meal here, but the experience was married by a very loud group sitting near us.
One of the best restaurants we have ever eaten in. Food was superb. Very good service. Only thing we didn’t like was after having our table for 3 hours..about to order deserts we ask asked to move to upstairs bar as they wanted our table. Although we finished our drinks up there we were put off ordering deserts as we didn’t want to finish our dinner upstairs on extremely small tables. However we would return. Apart from the time issue....all was outstanding. The staff were very polite and well
Mannered. Very enjoyable experience
Expensive but the food is excellent. Staff are quite attentive without being over bearing
Excellent, excellent service. The service staff are true professionals and the food is equally incredible. This is my fifth visit to Simpson”s. I live on the west coast of the USA and get to London about twice a year. Simpson’s is a must do for me on every trip. The last three times, staff even remembered me and conversations we had. Amazing! Thank you.
Fabulous restaurant, from the time of entry until our party left. Nina our waitress for the evening was very attentive without being intrusive, Richard the Wine Waiter was very knowledgeable and in fact after we had consumed a french red, he suggested a Spanish red and both were absolutely spot on.
The food menus was varied and comprehensive, more than enough mouthwatering choices. Each of the seven of us thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience , we had a "round "table in "Churchill's" corner which made a good historical talking point.
Would definitely recommend and also visit again when in the mood for an "expensive, but good value" dining out experience.
Great service. Most of the food was quite good. Disappointing Beef Wellington which is what we went there to have. The pastry was not cooked through and the meat was good but not great. Everything else we had was pretty nice. Would probably go back and just avoid the Wellington.
As always fantastic. Food, service, atmosphere.
This was the perfect dinner location for a group of grownups who enjoy good traditional English cooking at it best. The dining room is beautifully traditional, with the very best of service and a wonderful atmosphere enhanced by great entertainment (wonderful young piano player and singer).
There used to be a time when you had to were a jacket, and before that you had to wear a jacket and tie, now you can wear jeans and t shirt, I suppose it's the sign of the times - great shame that standards fall, Simpson's is no longer a special experience. Sorry
Haven’t been here in 20 years. Were made to feel special and excellent service. Tito our waiter was faultless.
This visit was principally made as my imagination had been fired by so many literary references ( Conan Doyle to W E Johns) that I had to sample Simpson’s for myself.
The atmosphere was promising at first as was the ambience.
We were shown a table and a waiter eventually arrived wit a menu and a cocktail menu.
He explained that he would be our waiter on this occasion and that he would bring us a wine list.
We never saw him again and consequently didn’t bother to order wine!
The food when it arrived was good ( the beef outstanding ) but we were a little disappointed with the burnt Yorkshire puddings and the one meagre portion of cabbage.
Once we had been served our mains we were once more ignored until we asked for more water.
My expectations based on Simpson’s in fiction were rudely shattered - waiters and other staff dressed in uniforms that had seen much better days and not a polished shoe between them.
However I notice that the clientele don’t bother to make much of a sartorial effort either so perhaps nobody cares much about what I had thought was a hallowed gastronomic venue.
Overall I got good roast beef - but I can have that courtesy of my local farm butcher.
Oh well - another fantasy ruined!
Great traditional English atmosphere for great traditional English food. Loads of fascinating history for all comers.
Please allow more time between the courses! Everything else is beautiful but we felt in a rush.
The ambience was great a piano playing the whole restaurant oozed old style charm. We had a fantastic waiter who made the evening for us. The food was delicious and we even got a birthday surprise for my husband. The wine and cocktails were Devine we will visit again.
Nice experience, room was interesting, although piano was a little loud for the space. Most of the clientele seemed to be tourists, as we ourselves were.
The food was good, the carvery fresh and beautifully cooked. Service excellent from Alessandro on wine to Roderigo for the food choices.
An excellent choice for a carnivore, prices reflected the name more than the cooking but as a one off experience it was good.
Perfect evening. This restaurant is so special and has never disappointed. Can’t wait to return.
Service very slow, nearly an hour wait from ordering. Had no starters, so main course could have been served straight away. Not sure if it was miscommunication or what. Sweets were served quicker when we pointed out we had theatre to get to. We did book for 5pm so allowed plenty of time. Had to order taxi to get to performance in time in the end.
Me and my partner had the most wonderful time here.. the food was incredible, the restaurant itself was stunning and the service was 5 star.. We couldn’t of choose a better place. faultless
Lovely traditional English dining hall vibes and excellent food and service!
Birthday lunch and from start to finish the service was without fault and so was the lunch!
Went to Simpsons for a special occasion with my partner and were not disappointed. Service was seamless from entry to departure and the staff all appeared to be happy to be there. There was a minor hiccup when my partner had not realised that she had ordered a fish dish with a cream base sauce, this was handled superbly by the waitress and a non-cream version followed soon with additional side dishes. The restaurant manager cam to the table to assure my partner that as the customer she must be satisfied with what she ate. The manager came again at the end of our service to thank us for eating there and gave us a signed card from her and the waitress and her business card. Simpsons lived up to its reputation, we will happily go again.
We went for a dinner before theatre. The service was outstanding. Great, classic menu prepared wonderfully and well presented. Very attentive staff. We were a little under-dressed, but no one made any issue about it (as great staff shouldn't). Will come back dressed to the nines to enjoy the delicious food. The carving cart was lovely and tasty. But the best detail is the superb staff - all around spot on.
Had an amazing evening food excellent and the staff where exceptional. Great way to start the evening can not recommend enough and will be back
The third time at Simpson's, this time with 4 Swiss Friends and we had the roast trolley. The Service was excellent, however the Food was disappointing. By the time we were all served, it was fairly Cold as the accompaniments didn't arrive at the same time that the meat was being carved. The roast potatoes were not crisp and were sent back. They came back rapidly crisper and were the only Thing really hot on the plate. I found the meat rather tasteless. I would have complained but, unfortunately, I was invited by the Friends and felt it wasn't my place to do this and to spoil the atmosphere. I am sure that the Friends will not be back and neither will I. What a shame, the previous times we were only 2 at table so perhaps they should make sure that larger table get served more quickly so that the Food remains hot.
