Sequoia Ratings and Reviews
We did the bottomless brunch Saturday and the weather was beautiful so we sat outside on there patio. First it was difficult to find a 4 top that wasn't in direct sun because they wouldn't let 4 people sit at a 5 person table. After we found a semi-shaded table, our waitress came over and got our drink orders and started us out with the appetizers. All the food was great but as time went on the rest of our orders that morning kept on coming out slower and slower till finally our orders were forgotten pretty much. They may have a slight issue with their food running because we noticed the tables next to us got what looked like our exact orders and then we would hear "oh we actually didn't order that but we'll take it!". So that was disappointing. Also our waitress stopped coming to us, so we waited a while for drink refills, she blamed the computer system but she seemed very frazzled once the patio started getting fuller. I would definitely suggest going over your bill at the end, yes it's a fixed price for brunch but they charged us for 5 people instead of 4 and after endless mimosas that could easily be missed.
So overall, I think the price is a little steep for the mimosa/rose brunch because you could tell the champagne was a cheaper quality, the food was great IF it came out to you right a way and they could work on their food running system.
We had a great experience at Sequoia from start to finish. The renovations we're beautiful. The hostess was very generous to seat us exactly where we requested. Our server was friendly, professional and efficient. Everything she recommended was delicious. When our eyes were bigger than our stomach, she was honest and told us it was one too many and she was right. The tuna taquitos were the highlight of the meal. Loved everything, we will be back.
I was very happy the way that they treat us our server he was very nice he's name was osbaldo everybody was nice and friendly the manager was really good she was very nice friendly she came to our table to ask if everything was okay I just love the place my favorite spot for brunch I highly recommended the food was delicious clean one of the best brunch in DC that I've been
Excellent lunch all around. Restaurant was relatively quiet. The lady at the host stand greeted us warmly. Server was very attentive and professional. Really great seafood choices on the menu. We had the cioppinno and seared tuna. Really enjoyed both dishes.
Food is good but service was uncoordinated and slow in some regards but fast otherwise.
We ordered drinks but didn't come out until after we finished our appetizers.
Bread was supposed to come out at the beginning but didn't come out until the main meal. We were told this was because they were making the bread but when it came it clearly had been made well before in the day.
Overall atmosphere and food is good just the waiters and kitchen are out of sync with each other which takes away from the experience and can be frustrating.
Fantastic outdoor dining on the Potomac complete with a beautiful (and huge)glass art installation and a view of the Kennedy Center in the background. You can dock your boat in front of the restaurant. Music from the bar could be heard on the patio but was not a distraction.
Sergio our waiter was very attentive and gave superb service. He suggested a very nice cabernet while we waited on our food. The seafood linguine in red sauce had just the right amount of heat as did the spaghetti with veal meatballs.
Honestly I would have been happy with a PB & J. The view at night is awesome!
The occasion was my b'day dinner with my boyfriend. The service was great but the food was horrible. I ordered medium well steak which came medium rare. My boyfriend hated his sea food as well. Overall it was a nice atmosphere for a date but the food could have been better.
Our disabled guest had great difficulty getting in to Sequoia; it would have been helpful if restaurant had provided information on access for the handicapped when we made our reservation (and indicated that we had a disabled guest). Service was good, and setting of restaurant is nice.
The entire experience was excellent. My date and I are still talking about the night out. Best dinner experience I've had in a long while. The wait time wasn't long at all. The service was really great. The waitress/ waiters/ hosts were very professional. The outside seating with a view was superb. There was this modern approach to the dining experience and it was greatly appreciated.
We had an unusual experience with this restaurant. There was a private event inside and that might have contributed to us waiting 55 minutes outside for our entrees. Mine was very nice but my husband's Ahi Tuna was over cooked-2x. The manager was very nice and responsive, but like I say this was an unexpected experience with this restaurant and we probably won't return.
I made birthday reservations there. The view is stunning and I'm sure even more so at night. We (party of eight) couldn't stay long because of another event that we had planned however I certainly plan to return and possibly on a date. The only draw back is the manager and staff were running around setting up tables and chairs at the opening time which made it appear chaotic and unorganized, but I'll be back.
Few frustrating points and some positives:
- Walked up and saw that there were plenty of outside tables still available and granted we did not have a reservation, figured it was worth a shot and asked if we could get in (2 people) and we were told by the hostess they were completely sold out for the evening. Did not make sense since there were at least 20 tables open. I opened up my Open Table app and made a reservation for 2 at the exact time we were standing there and it was available. Went back to hostess and we were seated. Definitely a strange customer service tactic???
- The service was probably the slowest I have ever experienced. Our waiter was completely out of sorts and forgot what we ordered. I asked if one of the dishes could be made without garlic and he said it was made to order so should not be a problem. At least 25 minutes went by before he came back and said it could not be. On top of that our drinks had not made it to the table either. When he finally brought first round we ordered second on the spot to be sure we could have it to enjoy with our dinner. They never made it.
- The food was very good, the atmosphere was excellent. The service from both the hostess and waiter perspective needs drastic improvement.
