The name Melina is rooted in Greek origin and derives from the Greek word for "honey". "Mel" can be derived from the name Melissa meaning "honey-bee". The restaurant is named after the daughter of Co-Founder Chef Dimitri Moshovitis. “Melina” will honor the strength of the matriarchy in the Greek family. The food at this unassuming small Greek restaurant in Gaithersburg is the best Greek cuisine in the DMV in my opinion. The preparations are simple and extremely tasty. Our Server Boris was very knowledgeable about the menu and preparations. He was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The only negative is the lack of sound absorbing surfaces in the decor. The restaurant can get very noisy; probably best to go during the week.
