Upstate Craft Beer & Oyster Bar puts what it does right in its name. This is a place custom designed for fans of local small-batch brews and a well-stocked raw bar. The inside of the restaurant is as cozy and comfortable as one would expect, as it is a relaxed atmosphere similar to a sports bar in the off-season. One of the keys to Upstate's success is its commitment to freshness. So much so that there isn't even a freezer in the building as everything is brought in fresh daily.Obviously, the oysters and clams are what most patrons come for, and Upstate's selection of west and east coast varieties changes every day, depending on what is available. That's certainly not the only thing on the menu, though. Guests can try out shared plates of house cured salmon, crab cakes, squid salad and even sea urchin.

We take great pride in providing a friendly and vibrant atmosphere for our guests to enjoy our delicious seafood, live crawfish, crispy wings and our popular seafood fried rice and garlic noodles. We take the "traditional Creole seafood boil" to the next level. We boil our crawfish and seafood with classic Louisiana style spices along with our own secret blend of spices then top it off with your choice of one of our mouth-watering flavors. After establishing a popular seafood boil in New Jersey since 2016, we are excited to bring our concept to Metuchen with even better seasonings and guest experience.

After too long an absence, we enjoyed an excellent luncheon at OP. As expected, the service was outstanding, and food very good. With a reservation, we were greeted by name and seated immediately. With a full house, surprisingly we were seated at the same cozy table that we had occupied in our last visit, and greeted warmly by a manager, Nicole. To our surprise, she even remembered our prior server's name. Our server, Ripon, provided personable and professional service, kept the table spotless during our meal, and paced courses at the comfortable pace that we requested. The excellent calamari was tender, properly cooked, sweet and spicy. Our filet and strip steak were properly seasoned, cooked to medium rare, and rested prior to serving. Generous side dishes were more than adequate for two individuals. Our cocktails were made properly and served promptly, as was our wine request. Espresso coffee was rich and hot. Two minor suggestions: use larger ice cubes for cocktails. The very small cubes melt too fast, and detract (water down quickly) from the drink. The roasted broccoli with chili was tasty, but much too tough for many diners. A brief steaming or parboiling, or stir frying, would remedy this, without detracting from the crunchier/Asian-taste objective. Finally, Nicole returned to check on satisfation with our meal and to honor flawlessly CM bonus cards, to be applied to the check. In brief, we had an outstanding luncheon, and a wonderful two- hour respite. We were extremely well cared for, and felt relaxed and content. We apreciated, too, the sincere expression of hospitality from Nicole and OP staff, and look forward to returning very soon to OP and other CM restaurants . We compliment owner Cameron Mitchell on this visit as a sterling example of his first principle- "Yes is the answer." We did not ask for a chocolate milkshake, but no doubt we would have gotten one, if we had asked! Keep up your excellent standards! DGG CWG

Lunch special was a disappointment. Pivoted and ordered a wonderful halibut dish. Simply freshly prepared with oil and capers- amazing. Service is top notch … great wait staff. Front desk ladies should smile… they are the first people you see. A thank you upon departure is always a nice touch. Let them know!
