J Carver's Oyster Bar & Chophouse features market fresh oysters & premium wood grilled steaks. Nestled in West 6th District of Downtown Austin, John Carver, Owner and Chef delivers an elevated classic fine dining experience featuring a gorgeous raw & oyster bar and intimate dining experience.

In order to honor all reservations booked, we ask that all bookings adhere to our suggested dining time frame. Please contact our reservationist if you have additional questions. Our time frames are as follows
2 people - 2 hours
3 people - 2 hr 15 minutes
4-5 people - 2 hr 30 minutes
6-7 people - 2hr 45 minutes
8+ people - 3 hours

We offer Valet at $12 daily

The staff and food were incredible! Attention to detail and a very attentive staff checking in at every moment they could which was great because we had a bigger party and were replenishing drinks and apps quicker. This experience was worth every dollar spent. The steaks were to die for! Would definitely come back.

Always a great experience, my partner and I have been here multiple times and it's always amazing. The staff went above and beyond, I called ahead of time to see if they could help me with proposing since this is our special spot and they made it the perfect moment! The managers were amazing and well as every waiter and waitress!

Located in the heart of the the Most Beautiful Square in Texas, City Post Chophouse began its story as a post office in the 1930s, during the Great Depression and Prohibition. Nearly a century later, the beautifully renovated historic building now offers an elevated dining experience, live music and private events.

Executive Chef Adrian Corkill has curated a stand-out menu, featuring fine cuts and chops of beef, lamb, and pork, as well as fresh seafood and decadent side dishes served family style, along with unique handcrafted cocktails. Accommodations for vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free diets are readily available. Our wine selection includes something for everyone, with a variety of by-the-glass options.

Reservations can be made for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch in our main dining room, where “Texas formal” attire is appropriate. Walk-ins are welcome in our oyster bar, where our full menu is available with a more relaxed dress code.

If you want steak that melts in your mouth, make you not want to talk the entire time you eat? This is the place you want to come. The price is what you would expect for what you get, but be warned the steak is a la carte. Drinks are on point and the staff are the absolute best. 15/10 recommend and will continue to frequent.

Great steak house. NY Strip was a wonderful flavor enhanced by the side of portobella mushrooms. Choice of wine was widely available. Service was top tier. Definitely one of my new favorites!

My husband and I both agreed that this was one of the best dining experiences we have ever enjoyed! Exceptional friendly service, delicious food and extensive wine selection. We were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful The Capital Grille really was. We will definitely return.
