Ruffino's - Arlington Ratings and Reviews
I am shocked at the OpenTable ratings for this restaurant. There is no ambiance and the food is not good. I'm surprised that this restaurant can even stay in business with the quality of the food they serve. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it was clearly not very fresh (it had the rubbery consistency of old frozen calamari). We also ordered the fried mozzarella sticks which were no better than you can get in the frozen section of your local grocery store. Then our dinner came: veal piccatta was doused with garlic and the veal was of very poor quality (my teens couldn't even eat it); gnocchi was clearly from a bag; and the shrimp in my fettuccine was bland and rubbery. We will not be returning and I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody unless all you want to do is sit at the bar and drink.
The employees were so fun to be around! They were making jokes with me and my date and helped me with a question I had with the meal. Also, my water was constantly refilled which was nice because I was never left thirsty :). They also sand happy birthday to a boy who was at the restaurant and brought out a small cake for him. It's was a beautiful place very family friendly! Great experience definitely will come back!!
Came to Ruffino's for a Valentine's date. It was a little more casual than I was expecting and we were a bit overdressed. That said, it was great. I had been looking for good Italian food since moving from New York State a year and a half ago. My Italian fiancé gives it five stars. The meatballs were seasoned perfectly, the pasta was great and the server was wonderful. It was very reasonably priced as well. We plan on coming back on a more regular basis.
We were a mixed group including toddlers and grandparents, and everyone came away stuffed and happy! Our server was very gracious with the adults and friendly and helpful with the kids. Quiet on a Sunday evening, but a great family-friendly, neighborhood gem.
Very tiny, very little ambience, but a great place for Italian food. Friendly, welcoming staff. Reasonable prices, big portions. Decent wine selection- had a good Malbec both times we've been there.
Only tried the mozzarella sticks, which are tasty, but they ran out last time. Boooooo
Got the veal and chicken again - perfectly prepared with crispy edges. I'd prefer a sauce that wasn't as sweet, but will return again and again.
My guest was in the mood for good chicken parm, found this little gem on trip advisor and we were very happy. The tiny, one room restaurant was only 8mins away. Easy to find. Very friendly staff, attentive service, decent menu. Limited appetizers, but the mozzarella sticks were good and the marinara sauce tasty.
The parm - both my veal and his chicken - excellent. Crispy yet tender, with lots of cheese and just enough sauce. The plate overflowed.
Now if they could just update the interior, maybe a can of paint...
These people know how to cook simple Italian dishes as well as anybody. The marinara sauce is excellent. Best linguine with clams anywhere. Best garlic bread I have had in a while. Not fancy.Salads nothing special but that's not what you come for here. It's a very good pasta place with a decent wine list. What more do you need?
We hadn't been to Ruffino's for years and decided to stop in. Veal piccata with spaghetti was very good, chicken fettuccine and lasagna were good. Calamari appetizer good and dipping sauce very good. Cannoli desert nice. Very convenient parking in the back. There weren't too many other people there at 8 pm when we ate so it was quiet. Interior nice and clean, and walls adorned with nice time and art work.
Great Italian food. Enjoyed it start to finish. We had the spaghetti and meatballs, which was a great choice. Sautéed green peppers were a nice start. The Caesar salad was well done and big enough for two. Our waiter was very good with a friendly demeanor and excellent service orientation. Dining room is small and not very intimate, but if that isn't an issue for you, check it out!
Having passed this neighborhood restaurant many times, we figured we'd give it a try on a cold winter night. It is a small dining room with many tables close together and was probably half full. We were served promptly and the food was average - standard American Italian fare - nothing special or outstanding. The house wine was drinkable. But the noise level was deafening. A couple of tables of six and a few other tables of twos and fours talking and having a good time, and we were not able to converse across the table. Hard to imagine how noisy it would be if full. After trying very hard to ignore the noise and have a good time, we ended up finishing our meal quickly, paid the check and took home the leftovers. In all, sadly, it was a fairly miserable evening and I can't imagine ever returning after such a bad first impression.
My wife and oldest daughter at at Rufino's a month or so ago and were truly impressed with the quality of food and service and wanted to bring me to Rufino's to enjoy. So, when we had guests in from out of town, she immediately thought of Rufino's. I was not let down. Great food, nice wine, excellent service. Mixed drinks were a little iffy, but this is not the kind of place where you come for cocktails anyway.
Highly recommended if you are in the mood for some straight ahead authentic Italian food at a reasonable price.
The next time you are looking for a comfort food in the form of pasta, you should go to Ruffino's in Arlington. This is a small neighborhood restaurant that has been around for at least 30 years, maybe 50. I love this place for a leisurely spaghetti and meatball or spaghetti and sausage meal. I am sure they have other delicious dishes, but as long as I have been going here (30 years now!) I only order spaghetti and meatballs. The staff is low key and friendly. I believe the cook has been working in back using the same wonderful Italian recipes for well over 30 years.
Give a try, you will not be disappointed.
