Our food at the Roy's in Woodland Hills is consistently good. We were truly disappointed at the food in Pasadena. Sea Bass smelled fishy and was undercooked, non edible. Halibut was dry. Poke was good. NY strip steak was a little over cooked. We are Pasadena Playhouse season seat holders and were happy to discover that Roy's was walking distance. Unfortunately we won't be dining there again.
We’ve to Roy’s many times and it never disappoints us; including this one.
They were a little crowded but expected for their excellent service and food!!
Menu was excellent and the food was was cooked so very well. The entire table raved about their food selections and how they were prepare.
I'm a long time fan but this visit was definitely lacking. All my past visits to this Roy's were stellar. This time, the food was subpar and the service was even worse. Our waiter completely forgot about us on the patio. I had to flag him down and by then it was too late to order my favorite dessert which takes 20 minutes to make. I received better food and service from PF Changs and Yard House down the street. I was hoping to give my friend the best experience and instead I gave her disappointment.
Grossly overpriced, and food was disgusting. It was our first time here and we would never go back.
I brought my own bottle of wine. After being seated and taking my order for dinner, took my waitress 20 minutes before opening my bottle and serving us. Then another 30 minutes to get our appetizer, followed by an hour and twenty minutes to get our dinner. The manager did try and make it right, offering up his apologies, and complimentary dessert etc. However, thank goodness my wife dish was good, but my dish was dry and didnt eat much. Wasnt there night and had to eat afterwards. Ugh...
Celebration of my wife's birthday was great until we got to Roy's. Arrived on time at 8pm. Ordered, got the appetizers OK. 8:30, 9, no food. Finally someone came to the table & told us that something happened to our order. but it would be right up. Finally the food arrived at 9:30 boxed up. "We thought you wanted this boxed" No, I came to enjoy my meal. Still took another 15 minutes to get our food plated. My wife's shrimp VERY salty, my fish combo cold. Finally just left. Food ordered at 8, arrived at 9:45.
Never disappointed with Roy's. Went to Roy's for the first time in Hawaii and it was a great experience and the food and service is always consistent.
Took over 2 1/2 hours to get our food. Food also arrived cold and our server failed to update us on anything
Been here many times and have always enjoyed ourselves. This was not one of those times 1.5 hours to get our food and when we did get it both our plates were cold. And we finally flagged down a bus boy to complain because our waitress was no where to be found. With so many options in Pasadena Roy’s needs to do better.
Came into town for the weekend for some business.
We waited well over an hour for our food. Leftover Valentine’s Day crowd was the excuse told to us. No offer of lightening the blow of the situation. We finally were leaving restaurant 2 hours after our reservation time. The people sitting next to us couldn’t believe we were waiting for our food for so long. We joked that they had to go actually catch the darn fish. I loved Roys in Waikiki so much we went twice in one week and this location made Roys mainland something I wouldn’t recommend to others.
Great Valentines special menu. Food was amazing!
Wait to receive the food was extremely long waited at least 45 min to get the entree. Waitress was extremely nice and courteous to inform of the wait. But regardless of the information management did a poor job of overbooking reservations and took as many people as they can book knowing it’s Valentine’s Day. Management took advantage of the holiday and extremely poor planning. Lots of diners were unhappy with the wait and noticed some leaving even after they were seated at the table. The waitress deserves recognition for her extremely great customer service and made us feel important.
Although we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation, our waitress was wonderful and the food was delicious. Will definitely go there again!
for whatever reason the entire restaurant was messed up and very behind in getting orders out. We had an eight o'clock reservation, were seated at 8:30. OK. It was explained to us that the kitchen was way behind at that time. The waitress was lovely and reiterated that things were behind. We were brought courses 1 and 2 in a timely manner but the Lobster pot stickers were sub par, and the Cesar salad greens wilted. We finally received our entrees at 10:30! At one point I walked over to the bar and asked if they had anything to snack on since I was about to pass out. They kindly gave me a cup of Maraschino Cherries. My husband and I have eaten at Roy's MANY times and liked the place but will probably not book it again. The many people who had to wait so long should have been compensated in some way but were not. Things happen, but that would have been good business.
We had a reservation at 8:00pm, didn’t get seating until about 8:40. This was after I called to tell them that O was running a few minutes late and they told me that they would cancel my reservation after ten minutes past 8:00, no discussion. Didn’t eat our main course until past 10:30. My girlfriend’s Filet Migon was mostly fat, not we we paid for. A server later asked her if she wanted a to-go box. She said no, and he brought one anyways. By the time this all happened, we were done with this place and just asked the waiter if they could box up our dessert. Terrible experience for 200.00. Will never come back here again.
Was extremely excited to try Roy's at Pasadena. Upon arriving on time, the hostess inform us that they were behind but was going to call us shortly. Shortly was about a 30min wait. Once we were called, we were seated away from the loud dinning room to a nice room with other people but the noise level was much more quieter and more romantic ambulance. Our waiter introduce himself and was very polite and helpful. 4 course meal, options to choose from and a wide variety of wine and cocktails too. Our drinks came quick, which I totally loved. Got a Martini, which I forgot the name of, very strong, not my type of cocktail. However my partner got a cocktail which I wished I got as well. Our appetizer came quick. Pork ribs cooked well done and tender, lovely it was. Once done our soup came quickly right after. Delicious, creamy, butter lobster soup. Once done with our soup, the entree was lagging. It seems like the resturant was behind. People in the rooms started to get a bit frustrated. At one point, a couple sitting across from us didnt like what was going on and had as to speak to the manger. It seemed like he assured them that the entree was on it's way. The couple waited, and finally gre tired of waiting and asked for the check and left before the entree was served. Our waiter at this point had already came to apologize but it was over 30 minutes. It finally arrived, after 30min, which at this point we kinda wanted to leave but didn't. At this point, I was already full as well my partner. Steak was okay not the best. I myself could have cooked a well season steak. It lacks seasoning. Lobster mac n cheese was as well a disappointment. Dry and not flavorful. The dessert, in which we eat at home after leaving the resturant nearly 11pm was very delicious however my partner wasnt looking good. It was a small piece of choclate tasted not that great. I got the red velvet. In the end I will return to taste there regular menu. Hope it is much better the Valentine's Day.
Food was decent. Not worth the price. Terrible experience. Our reservation was at 8. Didn’t get seated until 830. Didn’t leave until almost 11 the service was so slow. I’ve been coming to Roy’s for years and it has been in slow decline. I will not come back.
Food and service were great, however the restaurant extremely overbooked for Valentine's day. Was at restaurant 20 minutes prior to reservation. Didn't get seated until 35 minutes after reservation time. Then didn't have main course served until 2 hours after our reservation time. We like this restaurant, but won't be going here again for Valentine's day. It seems they got too greedy and were more interested in getting people in the door than providing a quality dining experience. Don't expect this at a higher end dining establishment.
We were excited to be there on Valentine’s Day. Reservations were at 7:45pm , but we had a 30 minute wait for a table. Although we got our appetizers in a reasonable time, we were told they were running behind in the kitchen. By 9:15pm we asked how much longer it would be for the entree and to speak with the manager. The manager explained they were slammed in the kitchen and that even the GM was cooking. When asked what happened, because we had reservations, we were told they opened and accommodated the bar and the patio for service and fell behind in the kitchen . This made it difficult to take care of the reservations. He did Comp our glass of wine.
We were still not given an eta for our entree. After waiting another 30 min, with no communication on our entree, we paid for what we had been served and left around 9:45pm. The appetizers and salad was great. However, the long wait did not make it worth the wait. We were extremely disappointed, as this was supposed to be a special romantic evening, not a long “wait to see if you get your food evening.” We drove from Los Angeles, was tired , had a long day and just wanted to get back home. This was the most disappointing, stressful and unpleasant evening we experienced. Total failure on management’s part to open the bar and patio when the restaurant was booked with reservations on Valentine’s Day. This was not their first time opening on Valentines Day and they should have been better prepared. Hopefully this won’t happen again.
I have dined at Roy's many time however this was by far the worst Valentines dinner experience I've had in 20 years. Two and a half hours and our main courses still had not come out of the kitchen. We ended up taking a box lunch home and spent over $400 dollars to be disappointed.
We were there on Valentine's Day with a reservation. The management FAILED on planning. Packing way too many tables in for what the kitchen could handle in a timely manner. We waited almost an hour for our main course and they totally forgot our final course until we asked for it. There was absolutely no compensation for it at all. Very POOR MANAGEMENT. We got our bill practically before we were done chewing our last nite of dinner. Never again!!
Two hour wait for food and our chicken was still really pink
Valentine’s Day dinner. They overbooked the food took forever to be served.
Very disappointed. We waited 70 mins(more than an hour) for the entrée after we finished our appetizer. Although it was on Valentine day and they were busy, the restaurant should be prepared for the crowd.
The waitress has apologized several times. But , it was still not acceptable. We will not go back for any occasions or holidays.
between meals was about 45 minutes. Took years to get our food.
My wife and I went there for Valentine's. We were expecting it to be busy but when we arrived, it became obvious they had overbooked the restaraunt. There were at least double the normal amount of tables. They stuffed us in a smaller room, packed wall to wall with 2 person tables. We could barely move through the restaraunt. I'll make la onger story shorter. It took forever to get food and at one point we left $20 on the table for the waitress and left. We don't understand why this restaraunt known for exceptional service and excellent food would choose to not only hold you captive to an expensive prix fix menu but then stuff the restaraunt like a cheap Chinese buffet. It was a terrible experience. Shame on you greedy corporate Roy's. Can't wait to go back to the Islands where they still care about the Roy's experience.
Understanding it was Valentines Day, but it took nearly an hour for our main entrees to come out, and both steaks we received were severely undercooked, and had to be sent back. Took desert to go after 2 1/2 hours.
6 pm Pre-Theater meal on Valentine's Day gone wrong. Made reservations for 10 people, weeks in advance. Never advised by Roy's of the fix menu which was not a big deal. After ordering the drinks and required four courses we were able to the the drinks and the appetizers (1st course) and were forced to leave at 7:45 to get to the theater on time. Our group was not alone as others we walked with to the theater shared same story, however, in smaller groups of 2 and 4 patrons.
On a good note, the waiter was doing all he could and was apologetic and friendly even under the stress of the moment. My hope is that this was an exception to the rule, and my guess is that something went horribly wrong in the kitchen given the advance reservations and predictable fixed menu.
Should have avoided the Valentine’s Day rush.
Even with a pre fix menu the kitchen backed up and our dinner took 1.5 hr to arrive. Steak was cold and undercooked. Asked for medium temp and got rare. Both management and waitstaff where unresponsive.
Had a first sitting for Valentine's Day at 5:30. I have been a frequent visitor. Roy's required a four course menu and increased their prices. The kitchen was overwhelmed. Asked for a manager. Took two hours to receive main course.
We have eaten at Roy's Pasadena many times and at Roy's other locations all over the country and have always LOVED the place...BUT Valentines day 2/14 was a devastator for them!!! We waited over 1 1/2 hours between finishing our salads and when the main coarse was delivered. My wife's fish dinner was still still cold/frozen inside! The tables around us were still waiting for there dinners when we left. No one from the management team can to explain or apologize for the delay! We may not be back to this location again for some time......VERY Disappointing for this special day.
Nice location away from Old town Pasadena. Some street parking but use structure across the street. Miso yak I Butterfish is always good. Chilean sea bass was good but it is a denser fish so not as tender. Lobster bisque has lobster meat and was thick and did not have an overpowering shery taste that sometimes we’ve had. Pineapple upside down cake was not too sweet and goes great with ice cream. Ask for vanilla if you don’t like coconut ice cream. Service has always been good at this location.
We hadn't had lunch at Roy's before, so this was a pleasant surprise. It was a late lunch, so there wasn't much of a crowd, but the service was still excellent, the food was great (smaller portions for lunch), and the prices were good.
Service was very slow. I was waiting for someone and everyone that was a complete couple was served at least 15 mins before I was even asked if I wanted a drink and I made eye contact with several waiters while waiting.
Made this visit to celebrate my girlfriend's 40th birthday and overall she enjoyed her experience very much and was impress with the quality of the food she had and everything she tasted so thank you guys very much for an amazing night and for top notch service as well. A+++++++++++++
Went for birthday celebration dinner. Great value for the aloha Monday’s special. Great service and excellent food.
