We had an early dinner - when we arrived, the dining room was almost empty, though it filled up during our dinner. The bar was busy. The food and service was excellent. We both had the special of the day - pheasant - which was delicious. The desserts were fantastic as well. I would highly recommend the Roger Sherman Inn.
I love the old
New Canaan feel here, I love sitting in the historic bar dining area-
The food is wonderful! And the cocktail menu- lovely!!
A real classic standard-
It's hard to find a sophisticated yet warm restaurant that ticks off all the boxes anymore: the delicious and varied food, the attentive service, the pretty atmosphere. Music was at the right level and melodic - you could actually hear the conversation at the table. In a world of restaurant chains and "trendy, nouveau" cuisine, Roger Sherman Inn stands apart. We had a very enjoyable, leisurely dinner to celebrate my Aunt's birthday. It's definitely on my list of favs.
Very attentive waiters and servers. I love the new look in the dining areas. Greeter could not have been nicer. Our birthday group had a wonderful delicious brunch.
We attended on Valentines Day. The venue is fine, decorations could be improved as doesn’t carry any particular character or that of an old inn. Food was very good, but service unfortunately was poor. Very slow, not paid much attention to, and food needed to be re-heated. Overall it was a nice experience, with live music and dancing, but could have been better.
Valentine’s Day pre fix dinner. Unfortunately, very slow service, the meal was not up to their usual standards and there was a loud band playing. Overall a disappointment and not in keeping with our previous experiences there.
Went for a Valentine’s Day prefix meal; I know upcharging comes with the territory there but the value was just not good. Nevertheless, good and service was excellent, ambiance was terrific, would definitely recommend.
Service was terrible. Took 50 min to get food from apps to entree.
Friday night family dinner with our two teenagers
They loved the music in the bar area , however, we sat in the second dinning room
Was able to chat and hear better
Was surprised they had music on Friday nights too
Just a lovely meal and there was something for everyone
From Burgers/ fries or Dover sole that was so fresh and delicious
If you have never been here it’s a must for any occasion
Just could not be a better experience!
The food was excellent and service superb.
Our brunch experience was fabulous! The ambience was lovely - spacious and bright with natural light. Service was impeccable and the food delicious and beautifully presented.
Saturday night dinner at Roger Sherman is amazing
Staff is excellent and well versed of both the menu and specials
Such a cool , cozy place to go with friends, couples or even teens
Brought our 15 y/o along with us and she loved the music
Vinny is wonderful and gladly plays all requests
We love the New England country club feel
Can’t wait to come back!
All of our meals were delicious! The salmon potato galette melts in your mouth, and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The soufflés were amazing.
A typical Saturday night at Roger Sherman is filled with a mixed crowd of people
From 30’s to 70’s all enjoying some good rock style music . It’s a fabulous evening of amazing food and generous drinks
They aren’t measuring drinks by the ounce here as you often find in most restaurants around town
When you order a drink here , you get what you expect
Staff is friendly and accommodating
If not the best restaurant in CT , definitely in the top three !
So glad Vinny is back on a Saturday night and he’s fantastic
Will play any suggestions, such a nice guy
Wonderful time as always watching our friend, Mark Zelenz play. Good food and drinks.
Service is unmatched in New Canaan.
We had a party for brunch on Sunday, and the restaurant was not busy, but there was a birthday party off in one portion, which was not a problem. The service , however, overall, was quite poor. It took a very long time to be served our entrees....nearly one hour. And there were wait staff around but they were not very attentive and we did not feel as though anyone was looking after our table.
The service by our waiter Gonzalo was impecable!
Wonderful Christmas Day dinner! The inn is so lovely and our dinner was superb.
Christmas Eve. Beautifully decorated. Food good but not great. Overpriced.
Food was mediocre and extremely overpriced for the quality. Lamb was fatty, steak chewy, pasta flavorless. We had to grab our server at least 5 times so basically non existent. Too bad. It’s a cute spot in town. Really wanted to enjoy it.
Wonderful birthday dinner with friends in the cozy bar.
From the Time we entered to the time our car was returned to us by the valet.... nothing BUT the BEST of attentiveness, service and presentation!! We've here a few times in the past 15 years and always had a great experience. The "older rooms" have more charm than the newly remodeled areas, is my only disappointment.
The restaurant was decorated so beautifully for this Holiday Season...Very festive...we had a very nice waiter but I think was a little frazzled because he forgot my husbands soup spoon and we had to ask numerous times for more butter... it did not ruin our evening and we have to say he was very pleasant and helpful the rest of the evening...Our meal was amazing... one of our most favorite restaurants
Perfect place for a date or a special evening!!
Festive holiday lunch — the price fixe menu included several delicious choices! Everything was delicious.
Holiday House Tour luncheon
We had dinner here for our wedding anniversary. What a beautiful and charming place! The inn was decorated for the holidays and was warm and inviting. We arrived and immediately met the proprietors who could not have been nicer or more welcoming. When they found out it was our anniversary they went above and beyond to make it special. The food was spectacular. I guess I was expecting average, but my lamb dish was one of the best I have ever had. It was fantastic and we are definitely going back again. Afterwards we went to the bar for an after dinner drink. It, too, was lovely....wood paneled room with fireplace and live music. I had never been here before and realized what I had been missing! I highly recommend it.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend
Thanksgiving dinner - disappointed we did not get table we requested. Had called three times to confirm. MaitreD gave table to a party who arrived shortly after us, but in the confusion sat them down before we realized what was happening.
Parking was a little mixed up with valet. My food wasn't exactly how I ordered it ...I wanted cheeseburger with no roll and no onion.......I received a hamburger no cheese and a roll. No onions were correct!
Terrible from the start. Took them 15 minutes to even acknowledge our presence once we sat at our table. The cocktails were watered down, the entrees were terrible (we had to send two of the four entrees back because they weren’t cooked properly).
The waitstaff seemed understaffed across the board. This place wouldn’t be worth a $50 receipt let alone the $400 that it cost the four of us.
Grossly overrated. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
There were two parties going on it was very loud and service was extremely slow they came to our table to order drinks after we were sitting there for about 15 minutes I forgot one of our drinks that we ordered midway through the meal they were different staff coming around but no one really seemed in charge
Both the food and the service were excellent. Had a great meal.
Everything was great from the food, ambiance and music. It was a little loud but we knew it would be as we sat at a table in the bar. George is so friendly and nice!
We had a phenomenal experience here. The food was fantastic, the service excellent, and great live music! Thank you for making my husband’s birthday dinner so special!!
The setting was elegant, the wait staff welcoming, courteous and helpful. My husband was happy with both the escargot (appetizer) and bouillabaisse (dinner). My selections of a roasted squash/goat cheese salad and grilled salmon with pork belly were okay but I would not order them again. When I made the online reservation the pulldown menu prompted me to indicate that this was a birthday celebration, and yet no mention of this was made by anyone there; I fail to see the reason for asking if not even a simple "Happy Birthday" is wished. Definitely not necessary, but then what is the point of asking? We've gone to the Roger Sherman Inn for years for various special occasions; it's always enjoyable but rarely remarkable.
Loved the addition of music and dancing at this local inn. Hope they continue to do more of tanks...
We love the bar area... service always good and attentive w/o being overbearing
We go often ...
