RIVA Waterside Restaurant and Bar
Riva has a lovely outlook and is a great setting for dinner with friends. The menu choices are great contemporary dishes.
The food preparation is of a very high standard and the service attentiveness the same.
We love this place and will be back, a lovely place on the river in Gravesend.
Very nice evening. Staff very polite. Service was very very slow, but didn’t detract from a lovely meal.
Will love to return again at some point.
A wonderful riverside restaurant with lovely views. Booked a lunch on a monday with a friend. Being a monday it was quiet but food and service was great... a really good menu... plus great cocktails too.
Will definitely return again.
Another very enjoyable evening in the Riva
Service and food was excellent have been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience
Location is lovely with glass windows to enjoy a view. We were lucky there were not a lot of people so we enjoyed the quietness of the restaurant. We were disappointed that something so basic such as still water was not available since it had finished and the wine list we had seen online was not the same as the one at the restaurant so the wine we wanted was not available. That said, the manager was professional and did apologise for it. Food was quite tasty and fresh and we enjoyed it overall.
Was a nice atmosphere
Starters and Mains foods could have been hotter
The food was not worth the money. The drinks were overpriced. The starters took forever to come yet we were the only people In the restaurant.
The worst part about the experience was the service. The waiter we had was rude and confrontational saying he wasn’t even meant to be working the whole time he was serving us. He referred to my sister as “darling” when we asked to speak with his manager. The manager was not apologetic either for his staff as we were walking out of the restaurant. Do not eat here.
Worst service EVER
Great food and service
we had to interrupt lunch to see to the baby but they were more than happy to keep food warm
no rush, relaxed and calm lunch in lovely setting
amazing view, food was excellent as well as servive will be going back
Had a very pleasant evening here on Friday evening with friends. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
We had a round table in the corner by the window with an amazing view and enjoyed our meal very much.
We used to go Riva bar for our date night every month and absolutely loved it but recently it has changed its menu to a very small and selected not a lot of variety and food we found quite poor was not a great Experience we would normally have 3 course we only had a main we ordered drinks that took quite a while to reach our table (we did not understand this as we was 1 of 3 couples in the Restaurant
I ordered a glass of wine for the waitress to
Come bk over and ask if I wanted a single or a large ????
I would not recommend or be visiting the restaurant again very disappointed
Such a shame
The setting is amazing! The food and presentation was top quality! The staff were very polite and courteous, unfortunately only one lady serving which put her under pressure. If they work in the service this could be one of the best restaurants around!
Lovely place, with a beautiful view through the windows. Tasty food. 100% customer service.
Can't understand why is not so popular.
If you want nice food in the nice restaurant, give it a try.
Would never recommend poor food no atmosphere and very rude staff
Great staff and Manager on the day- even though restaurant was cold we had heaters and blankets given to us and the attitude of the staff and quality of the food overtook any discontentment with the temperature- a large party of 13 of us and all were accommodated and went home with a smile on their faces.
Our booking made through Opentable wasn’t showing on the system. After 15 minutes of waiting we had to ask to order - the restaurant was not busy. Starters were fair. Mains were disappointing. We ordered a Brownie for dessert as we had seen it on the online menu. A chocolate tart arrived with no explanation. On query it was explained the menu had changed... Our mistake, but we could have been told Brownies were no longer on the menu rather than being served something we didn’t ask for! To top off the evening the fire alarm was set off by the smoke machine in the adjoining bar - can’t blame the restaurant for this but it rounded off a poor evening nicely!
The restaurant is in a great location and could be fantastic if the issues with food and service are ironed out.
Food always good
Having visited the venue before having had good food and service we decided to revisit, wrong move, this time we found the service and staff very disjointed and slow, the menu being very basic. When we arrived we chose a bottle of wine only to be told by another staff member they had run out then we went to order a second bottle of what we had during the meal only to be told we have run out. To add to this one of our party ordered Halibut which was very dry and chewy and another person in our party ordered Bread and Butter pudding which when served was covered inside with chocolate chips and not the normal dried fruit. There was no mention in the menu it had chocolate in it because if it had it wouldn't have been chosen due to not liking chocolate desserts. This could be very dangerous as one of our nieces who fortunately wasnt with us is allergic to chocolate due to some containg nuts . Our overall experience was very disappointing for the price we paid and it dampened our birthday celebration. Also one of our party was only drinking and it appears we were charged £5 for the privilege. The only saviour was the entertainment and view.
Great location, over the river, average prices, was chilly when we arrived so switched on radiators myself then was fine, need to fill in gaps between floor boards where cold draught was coming from, waiter poured full glass of wine,or attempted to without asking us to taste it first, ended up being not cold enough so left in in ice bucket to chill, good entertainment, one solo singer/comedian,ovreally had good time, and would recommend couples or a roudy lot for lunch, will return
Very nice evening, lovely food and lovely staff, we will be going back
I was one vegan in a party of ten and was extremely well catered for with the sort of careful attention vegans are not used to receiving!
It's a great setting. The staff were very attentive, the food was delicious and we were not rushed at all.
It was very quiet on a Sunday afternoon but the whole family (aged 10 to 70) are looking forward to another visit very soon!
Had a lovely evening beautiful setting nice food good cocktails.
And the staff were lovely would definitely go back
Beautiful venue. Well prepared food, but portion size was little for the price. Very limited menu. Steak was done to perfection. Great attentive service.
First comment We haven't any steak, really a restaurant on a Saturday night.
Small portions but tasty
Will not go there again
When we arrived the door was still locked, a hour and half after the opening time? The waitress had no idea of our booking, which had preferences. We requested a table next to the window, we were not given one because of the table lay out, although we were literally the only people in the restaurant!
It was a very warm day, they did not have air conditioning. The waitress offered to open the window, which we said yes please. She opened the “wall”!! The window from floor to ceiling opened up straight to the Thames!! We had 3 children with us. We had to put a chair in front of the drop, in case one of the children tripped and fell into the water!
We waited over 2 hours from our reservation time to get our food, even though we said repeatedly we were under a tight schedule. We were told we had a wait, as the bar was busy???
The children’s sausage and mash, was just that! No vegetables, no gravy? When we questioned if any veg was coming, they said no, but could make some. I said no thank you as we didn’t have time to wait and the rest of the meal would be cold/eaten by the time it arrived.
The adult meatballs were cold, although the children’s were steaming? Showing they were not freshly made?
The chicken in the Italian burger was very cheap. I could only eat a portion.
The restaurant looks nice, but that is all. Very upsetting as we had visitors that had just driven 4 hours to visit.
Fifth visit and never disappointed. Service excellent. Great views. Good food
Staff polite, food was very good, lovely position, we didn’t pay full price as we have gourmet card, so for us good value.
Great service, lovely food, couldn't ask for more.. Thank-you.
It’s a beautiful restaurant inside and could become a goldmine but the food needs to improve dramatically. The food isn’t worth the money & I feel the chef’s need improvements.
I was given stale French stick that had been heated up for my starter, my partners “Rib-Eye” steak wasn’t cooked to his preference and looked more like frying steak instead of rib-eye and our desserts were a let down; mine - a chocolate fudge cake that was covered in strawberry sauce (???) & his - a gypsy tart that tasted more of a tin of caramel mixed with icing sugar...
I also noticed the menu within the restaurant isn’t reflective of what is shown on Open Table so do check the restaurants website before you book. As I said, the restaurant is lovely & if more effort is made with the food, it could become lucrative.
We were disappointed and wouldn’t recommend or rush back again.
First time dining at Riva...certainly won’t be the last. Will definitely be back in April for Birthday celebration dinner...can’t wait #fabulous
Lovely setting. Waitress was very polite & helpful and was pleasantly surprised when we got the bill that the wine the restaurant substituted because they didn't have what we asked for was less than the original but still delicious! Very impressed overall.
the staff very good and very happy can not do enough for you very well looked after we will be back our frist time there but it will not be our last
The views over the Thames and the way that the restaurant is laid out are both excellent. This is the perfect setting for something special.
The food was freshly prepared and the standard of the cooking and presentation are very good.
They had a few issues with service on our visit.
The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and location. This could be a very good restaurant.
The Riva Waterside Restaurant was, sadly, almost empty when I had lunch there with two business colleagues. This, together with the unpredictable temporary heating system, compromised the ambience of the restaurant, which is ideally situated directly overlooking a busy section of the River Thames. The food was good, but I had to return my fish dish to be reheated. The restaurant, undoubtedly, has great potential and I'm sure that the experience is better in the evening when, I assume, it is much busier (and warmer).
We were ontime however staff were not interested in seating us.
Once we finally did get seated they did take our order quite quickly.
Starters came out and were ok... they did took ages to clear our table, only until we called them over.
They then took an hour and a half to bring out our main course! Not once did they come over to say why there was a delay or check if we wanted any more drinks! It's not like they were super busy either! They also can't grasp the concept of a medium steak as it came back twice well done.
We spoke to the waitress several times who said it wasn't her problem!
They also did not tell us there was going to be a live singer for the evening who was super loud!
We used to like this place, but NEVER AGAIN!
This was our first visit to Riva, Saturday evening. We eat out every weekend. There were only a handful of guests present. It was therefore quite disappointing to be advised on arrival there were no sirloin steaks available. Three of us ordered the 8 oz ribeye only to be subsequently advised there was only 20oz ribeye left, at £45. That was not even on the menu or mentioned when we were told no sirloin. We had to suggest to them they cut the 20oz in two !!! Our third guest was then told they had rump steak available, again not on menu nor told when advised no sirloin!! We had starters, mains and some desserts and all the food was quite acceptable, although all portions were quite small.
Read the reviews, went with mixed feelings, What a delightful experience my wife and I had. To the All the Staff, Thank You for a memorable evening. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Thank You once again.
Excellent - great evening out. The staff were very good.
