Food was good but worst waiter I have encountered in all the decades I have lived in the Metro area. Rushed us to order, poured the wine as if he was putting out a fire and when , as expected, he spilled it, he blamed the manufacturer of the bottle! He never offered ground pepper for salads or cheese for the pasta which I observed other waiters offering. To the owners credit, when told he did replace the waiter but when we received the bill a 18 percent service charge was tacked on. Suspect they will survive on the abundant supply of tourists, but doubt any patrons of restaurants in DC Metro area would be impressed. I was not.
We have visited La Perla for the first time ever so ti was a woderfull experience. One of the best italian homemade restaurant we ever had anywhere in the world !!
Food and service were excellent and having the chef come out to see how everything was going is something we much appreciated
Also the noise level was to our liking as was the restaurant atmosphere
Mediocre food and upcharged for $7 bottled water at lunch, lame.
Bread was pedestrian.
Chicken entrees cooked perfect.
Chocolate ganache and Tiramisu were amazing.
Service was impeccable
Plan to dress nice, we were underdressed (short sleeve button down, shorts, boat shoes) and it was obvious.
The food was good and great vegetarian options. The service was a little slow.
Great place ,food. service. Nice valet service. Chef greeted us too
Very elegant restaurant with superb service. Presentation of food was also superb. Soup and desert were very tasty. Main course did not meet my expectations based upon the price charged.
Excellent service and good Italian food.
We dined at LA Perla with my step son who is stationed in Washington DC at 8th and I. The food was outstanding. The owner came around to each table and asked what we were ordering. He asked my step son and made a suggestion for a veal dish. He ordered it and said it was out of this world. My husband said it is one of the top meals he has ever had! We will definitely return
Delicious homemade sauces and bread. Extensive menu. Must have a great chef who gives a delicate touch to what can be very heavy food. Well Done!
We ate here after a busy day, and had a wonderful evening. The service and food was outstanding, and the ambience and decor reminiscing of a cozy restaurant in Italy. Bravo to La Perla!
Wonderful time. Ate on the early side, 5:30, but the place was already about a third filled. Wait staff and food was timely. Food was perfectly portioned, enough to be satisfied without being stuffed. Place had gentle chit chat, so easy to hear and converse.
Food and service were truly outstanding. Waiter was gracious and helpful
The food was well prepared and very enjoyable. However, the service was lacking. Waiter gave completely wrong description of salad and said we would not be charged. Brought some grilled veggies instead and then charged us anyway. Service was also slow. I think if you are taking your grandparents to dinner this is fine otherwise a bit dated.
My wife and I lived in Italy and Sicily for a total of five years. Dining at La Perla brought back all of the wonderful memories of those five years. Chef Testa is the ultimate host. We were greeted by the Chef as we entered the restaurant and were made to feel like long lost friends who had returned. The food is authentic and outstanding! Chef Testa is a culinary genius. The service is superbly provided by a team of knowledgeable professionals. La Perla is now our "go to" restaurant for all special occasions as well as simply to have a date night out for dinner. Molto Grazie Chef Testa and La Perla!
The air conditioning was not working so we sat outside & got bitten by mosquitoes. Service was slow despite it not being busy. They got one item wrong & one appetizer had bacon on it without saying it on the menu so it was returned. Not worth the money. Plenty of better Italian restaurants in the neighborhood.
Consistently delicious! The best true Italian in DC. Not the typical Americanized Italian. Must try!
We thoroughly enjoyed La Perla. The food was delicious and our waiter was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a visit from the chef, who encouraged us to pick up duck and osso bucco bones as we would at home - “go ahead - this is your table!”
We had a great walk through Georgetown after dinner. A lovely evening.
Food and service excellent. Portions are fair. Clean. Noisy. Prices are a bit high, maybe not for Georgetown.
A solid 4 star restaurant.
Food was delicious as it always is. The only problem was the poor Air Conditioning. It was 91 degrees outside and about 81 inside.
We arrived and immediately stated that we would need to leave in an hour and 15 minutes as we had a play to attend at the Kennedy Center. We asked if that would be a problem and the waiter said no. We placed our pasta order immediately and over an hour later(!), we still did not have our food. We left without eating as we needed to get to the play. It was a grand disappointment.
We decided to take our friends who where in town from NYC over the weekend.
They dine in Manhattan regularly so, we wanted a restaurant that was on par and, La Perla never disappoints.
Food is always outstanding, service is wonderful, the owner stops by to make you feel special and to thank you for coming. What can be better? Answer...try their Kiss of Naples! An ice cream treat like no other.
Authentic Italian. Wonderful atmosphere. Great and highly international staff. Chef came twice to check on our meals.
Very clean, but outdated decor. The staff was pleasant. Food was not exceptional and it should be at that price point.
This is one of my favorites in DC! The food is wonderful and the outside seating is very nice.
The kitchen takes too long. The white light in the dining room is inappropriate. My wife's fish and veggies may have been frozen. There's a very nice bar, nice furniture and wall decorations. The food was okay, not great, a little inconsistent.
Excellent food and service! We can’t wait to share dinner with friends !!
Food was good. My husband and I were not super dressed up (my husband wore a collard shirt and khaki shorts because the heat index was 110 degrees) and the service was definitely slacking because of this.
Wonderful for a birthday dinner!
La Perla is a wonderful restaurant for any occasion. Love Chef Testa and his staff and cuisine.
WE have eaten at La Perla many many times before going to the KC. We had a 6pm reservation for an 8pm show. We were seated promptly at 6 and told the waiter that we had an 8pm show. We ordered at 6:10, but the appetizers had not come by 6:30 and we repeatedly reminded the waiter of the 8pm show and he said he would remind the chef. Still, the first appetizers did not come until 6:55 and the second appetizer came 5 minutes later. The entrees came at 7:20 and we had to quickly eat to get out of the restaurant by 7:30 to get over to the Kennedy Center. The food was wonderful as always, but the inefficiencies made the meal uncomfortable.
My BF and I were looking for a place to go after attending a musical at the Kennedy Center. I'd read the reviews on this restaurant and thought it was just what we were looking for. Though we were 45 minutes early for our reservations we were seated promptly with no fuss (the maitre d' was FABULOUS). Food and drinks were great (though a bit over priced). I had the traditional lasagna and my BF had a homemade sausage pasta dish. They both were fab! Service was prompt, professional and friendly. I will definitely go back. PS, don't worry about parking, if it is scarce valet is on $6!
Extensive menu and excellent food, with good service.
Loved the owner and his restaurant!! Wonderful food and ambiance. Desserts amazing. Very tender veal. Spaghetti was so good. Very fresh seafood.
Possibly one of the best pastas I have ever had, I have been around the globe and eat at the best restaurants in every city. Stumbled into la Perla and loved it.
Solid Italian food. Salads were excellent. Meat and fish entrees were good. Interior could use some updating. But overall very pleasant and enjoyable meal.
My wife and I had tickets to a show at the Kennedy Center and we wanted to have a nice dinner first at a restaurant within walking distance. We found La Perla on-line and were delighted by our choice. Everything about the restaurant was terrific- the ambience, the service, and most important, the food. I had bronzini and my wife had chicken francese- both excellent. And we shared a delicious dessert- a chocolate mousse cake. We have tickets to the Kennedy Center again in a week and have already made reservations to eat at La Perla before the show.
This restaurant is old school Italian complete with a dessert case. The food was very good and the menu was quite extensive. We ordered our entres from the daily specials. The chef came around and greeted all of the table which was a nice touch.
