We have been here several times and we love it.
It's very "old school" charm which is part of the attraction for us.
Great menu with lots of options.
As usual, superb cuisine in a conversation friendly atmosphere.
The portions are very small and rather expensive, but what they do give you is absolutely delicious. For such a busy restaurant, the service is very quick and friendly, but still leaves something to be desired.
This was not my first nor will it be my last visit to La Perla. The food is excellent with my date having the veal chop which was prepared to perfection and a crisp, green salad to begin her dining experience. I had a vegetable salad and for my entrée I had the pasta fagiole, past and beans. The Pasta Fagiole is phenomenal and reminds me of what I consumed as a child made by my paternal grandmother from Naples. We had an excellent bottle of Montepulciano red wine. The one mediocre portion of the meal is the bread that is provided. It is not the expected, hard crust Italian bread but rather a thin crusted, almost cake like quality bread. Service is excellent and Chef Testa ensure that only quality comes out of his kitchen!!
We waited a long time. They forgot to give us one of the appetizers and after reminding them it was too late and we skipped it. Portions are small, although they were tasty. They gave us the wrong check. It seems (at least o the day when we dined) that the restaurant is not organized or run well.
Arrived early. Seated promptly. Meals were very good. Extensive menu. Wines are way overpriced. Pricey venue but great for special occasions. Service was very good.
Amazing fresh flavors and divine house made pasta. Quality takes times, so don't be in a rush. Gnocchi was pillowy soft and paparadelle presidente was heavenly! Worth every single carb. Decor is dated but who cares with food like this! Go.
Creative and traditional Italian dishes. Extensive menu will satisfy any taste. Excellent restaurant.
This is one of the best Italian dining experiences we have had. The menu is extensive and represents innovative creations and variations of classic Italian dishes. The value is superb! I cannot wait to be back in DC... this is bow on my list of mandatory stops.
My wife and I enjoyed the food and wine. Service was very good. We will return.
Great food - really delicious. Service is fine but a bit haphazard. Was there on a Sat. night, and it was very busy, and the wait staff seemed harassed. I would make one note. I had made the reservation through Open Table and received two acknowledgement emails. When I arrived, they had no record of the reservation. While we were accommodated, the chef owner made a disparaging remark about Open Table, which I found surprising because I have only had outstanding service with Open Table.
La Perla offers some of the better Italian dishes in the area in a classic environment. The food is very good although some it is on the pricier side for pasta but worth it.
On this particular evening, it was busier than usual but service was good if not perfect.
Had Easter dinner here with the family while in town. Food was absolutely wonderful
We really enjoyed the quiet and relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant. Chef Testa was out greeting and talking with the patrons. It may the dining experience very personable. Our dinner selections of Vitello Marianna and the Grigliata Di Pesce was excellent. Great wine list to choose from. The costs was reasonable and the service was great.
We waited for our food for an hour. There were two tables that came in after us and they got their food before we did. The meatballs were slightly sweet and my shrimp in the langostine pasta were overcooked.
Fantastic service and tasty food in a pleasant environment with great ambience. Highly recommended.
Went for casual lunch with friend. The restaurant was not busy so we had nice and quiet conversation. We took Minestrone soup and Arugula salad for starters followed with Shrimp pasta. Everything was very tasty. But the dessert was the star of the lunch(and I'm not the one who likes much sweets),we took Napolitan dessert,an ice cream covered with warm chocolate.. Really good! ...And they have one of the best cappuccinos in town.I recomend it for people who beside good food, appreciate nice table setting, white crisp table clothes and old school decor.
Outstanding business dinner. Food was excellent. Our server was extremely attentive and met all of our needs.
Everything was excellent save for a background noise that was ultimately eliminated by the local fire department indicating that the noise emanated from a defective alarm system. In fairness to La Perla, we were informed of the noise as soon as we sat down at our table. The quality and taste of the food more than made up for the slight inconvenience. Would definitely go back again when in Washington DC!
The five of us had a wonderful time tasting the extensive Italian menu. Everyone enjoyed the authentic food with heart.
The chef visited our table and made us feel welcomed and at home.
A restaurant where it's obvious that the chef is passionate about his cuisine. Even though the menu has quite a few pages of choices, there is always something new. Everything is hand crafted from fresh ingredients, bread, pasta, sauces, and desserts. Oh Mama Mia!
And the service is top notch. The waiters are very attentive, making sure that your glass is always full and your food served the way you desire in a timely manner. No detail is overlooked.
The ambiance is more European with classical music in the background but not overpowering. It's easy to have an intimate conversation if desired without being overheard at the next table. One will never tire of this restaurant, there is always something new to try
Romantic and very classy restaurant. Service and food are great. Pricey, but Def worth it. Loved it!
We were a party of six, celebrating one of the group's birthday. The mixed background of our diners required that the restaurant provide fish, steak, salad, parking and transit availability. Almost of prominent importance was the ability to converse easily and hear each other. La Perla more than satisfied all of our needs. The food was excellent, service terrific and general atmosphere perfect. The owner came over to the table to check when he was told that there was a problem with one cocktail (switched out without and fuss), and a complimentary dessert served when our waiter overheard a birthday toast. This restaurant will be on each of our "must return" lists. And we were able to say that to each other and hear it!
Not many authentic Italian restaurants anymore, and this one is truly outstanding. Home made pasta and soups. Excellent selection of pasta, fish, salads and many other choices. Beautiful decor, and service is extremely professional. I have no complaints, just a first class experience.
Truly one of the best Italian restaurants in this area. Shrimp cocktails with the Chefs homemade sauce is delicious. Pasta and seafood were the main dishes and you can’t top the Kiss of Naples!
Great food, nice selection of Italian wines. Chef owner came out to our table and talked about our food and insure we were happy with our selections.
We've been visiting this place for several years when we are in DC. The food and service are always top notch and the owner always comes out to make sure you're happy. It's become a special place for us to go to for celebrations or special occassions. Highly recommended!
Dodd and service were very good.
Poor service from waiter. Food was good but not exceptional.
My second dining experience here and the food is still excelente! The Chef/Owner still comes out of the kitchen to check on guests dining. A very nice touch.
It’s a beautiful restaurant, but our waiter, although pleasant, struggled mightily with our ordinary drink order. While not the Waitors fault the food courses were slow to arrive. On the food, the portions were very small and the consensus is it was bland. It was delivered hot though. We all left hungry. Not expecting Filomena portions, but portions were significantly smaller than other area Italian restaurants
But the piece de resistance was the owner(assuming it was owner) offering next table free after dinner aperitifs, but not us.
We had been here a couple years back and it was fabulous
Food was fair - many food choices on the menu /maybe fewer choices and more attention to quality would make this restaurant a real gem. Our waiter was apparently new and quite combative when asked about explaining certain menu items. Got quite annoyed with us when he brought the wrong order to the table telling us we should have ordered what he brought.
Table was a bit small for the four of us. We were also very close to other tables so there wasn’t a lot of room. Food was great. Service good. Have eaten here many times in the past and it’s been very good so my less than fantastic experience this time around was probably just an aberration.
I booked a reservation for my birthday, as this was my first time coming to Washington DC, and I love Italian food. The service was great, greeted at door, waiter was attentive. The meal was phenomenal!! I highly recommend the chef’s special! (It’s named after him) I gave 4 stars because I indicated in my reservation that it was my birthday; I received no acknowledgement nor little cake or anything. Maybe this restaurant doesn’t do this, but then why do we have to give a reason for making the reservation?
Birthday. Was given a beautiful cheesecake with a sparkler!
Wonderful meal - service was exceptional
This is a very nice, elegant place just on the edge of Georgetown. The gnocchi are excellent and just the right sized portion. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The waiter was attentive without being intrusive. Just a very delightful evening.
Have been hosting business dinners there for several years; however, this was my wife's birthday dinner. She loves the restaurant and the food.
Food was disappointing- my wife had the Vitello Marianna Scalfaro and said it had not taste. I had the Chicken Medallion Sinatra and it was bland. The Penne Vodka was good however. Nice atmosphere and the service was solid.
