Water Grill - Downtown
Sea bass is the best! Kumoto oysters were outstanding!
I had a business meeting with a client from London and a partner at 12:30 on Sunday. The restaurant was quiet and uncrowded, and our lunch was perfect; great server, not rushed or hurried, good food and wine and spent a quality 2 1/2 hours there'
The seafood is very fresh and prepared superbly. I love the everything about the place. It is not cheap but not overpriced either. I never miss coming here when I’m in LA.
A friend visiting from Spain requested some good sea food and I immediately thought of Water Grill. The quality of seafood is unquestioned and I admit that I am a demanding customer when it comes to seafood. My Spanish friend got to have some White Sea Bass which she won't be able to get in Spain. I went non-local, I can't resist soft shelled crabs (when I know the quality will be good). The surprise was the "slaw" (I don't know how to describe it) that came with the crab. The combo of cucumber, zucchini and watermelon was amazing. (I word to readers...I only give out 5 stars about once every 5 years...so this is a really favorable review. ) Brandon provided good service and took good heartedly my chiding his staying with the Orioles of his old hometown over the Dodgers.
Great service , the location is impecable , the food excellent , I love this place I definitely come back back
Amazing food and service.best in town!!
Fritto misto was PERFECT!!
Family loved it
It was good ! Excellent customer service . Very please with the ambience
Just a short walk from the Biltmore, this was the perfect spot to eat early on a Friday evening. Our waitress was pleasant, answered all our questions about the varieties of fish which we were interested in, which helped us decide what we wanted. I chose the halibut, and was delighted that they could switch out the prparation to accommodate my diet. My guest opted for the NewZealand Sea Breem, which is served as an whole fish, fileted, no bones :-) It was tasty. Will definitely keep this in mind the next time were are in DTLA
I don't know what's going on, but as a regular, I was extremely disappointed with the service and the food quality. We didn't get any service for the first 15 minutes, when the restaurant was pretty much empty, and the food was terrible.
Very slow service and while some staff are warm, there’s a general lack of warmth and attentiveness even at $100+ / person for lunch.
They really know how to cook a fish! Service was perfect. No wait.
Outstanding waiter - Chris
It was it was a birthday but the weed or the waiter forgot and had to remind him the food was was good good appetizers and dessertWe had a nice table and ICE both overall the Yum the service was was very good outside of the one snafu
We went for lunch at 345pm. When we arrived the waitress gave us the dinner menu stating that lunch ended at 330pm. After explaining that we booked the lunch menu using dinela scheduling process, lunch ends at 4pm they switched us to the lunch menu. The Mexican sea bass was horrible, I couldnt eat it and didnt complain. Our waitress was very nice and courteous. She noticed how I neglected my food and asked the chef to prepare the Halibut which was much better. Overall a good experience.
Always great food and service. This restaurant never disappoints.
Great restaurant and great food. Seafood is a must!
Excellent menu - wonderful preparation - delightful evening.
Both sea bass and halibut dishes were dry. Seem a bit over cooked.
Had the Dine LA menu and it was such a surprise to see full sized portions being served. My Tuna Poke was excellent. My halibut cooked to perfection. Great wait staff and service. Cant wait to back and try more of their menu. Ordered the scallops off the main menu and loved them.
I would recommend, but watch out for the cooked fish. Two of us went to dinner and both the Seabass and the Halibut were dry. Otherwise, a nice place.
Second time I've been there for dinner in the last two months. The first time I had to send the Chilean Sea Bass back twice to be cooked more thoroughly. This time unfortunately, I had to send it back as well. Virtually raw in the center. Oysters were great, atmosphere was nice and service was pretty good - but very surprised that I had to send the fish back again.
Our first time there. We usually eat on the Westside or SouthBay, but attended an event downtown and opted to eat downtown. Ambiance is good, decor a rustic maritime feel, service outstanding. Selected from Dine LA list. Had Tuna Poke and it was very tasty. We both order the Halibut and disappointed, mine was on the dry side and my wife's was very dry. Staff very good about taking it back and doing a re-fire, this time it came back undercooked. We opted to take it home and finish the cooking at home. Did not care for the pairing with a tomato and pesto based corn with that type of fish. Halibut can be delicate and we enjoy it paired well with a lighter compliment. We went on Sunday and place was less than half full, which is to be expected for Downtown on a Sunday.
It was first time for us. Dine LA brought me and my friends there. Menus on course dinner were various but halibut was too salty and it was served with tomato marinated corn. It was way too salty, i couldn’t finish the main dish. We mentioned about it to server, I don’t think she let the kitchen know. Oysters were great and bartender was very friendly.
We went there for restaurant week as a special treat for my birthday. We thought everything was very good, but would not rate it excellent. My husband's corn and crab soup was good, but too sweet. My poke appetizer was outstanding. However, the halibut was just ok and the very "green" tasting accompaniment on the plate was odd and did not mesh well with the fish. Their ice cream was extremely too sweet which is odd coming from me. They asked if it was my birthday but did nothing to acknowledge it, not even a candle on my ice cream. As this restaurant is very expensive, I doubt we'll be back.
Scallop dish is very salty.
Raw Oysters are excellent
Very good restaurant and we enjoyed a lot(, but a little expensive as I expected(USD 150, each)).
If you enjoy delicious sea food and meat, this restaurant would be one of the bests.
Clam chowder didn’t have much flavor, mostly cream. Lobster and salmon were just ok. Pot au cream and shrimp salad were delicious. Best things we ate. Service was outstanding. Crying baby nearby wasn’t fun. Pretty restaurant and fun to see kitchen.
I have always had great experiences here. Unfortunately this time was the complete opposite! Extremely slow service, dry and Luke warm food. Not very tasty either. Extremely disappointed given it wasn’t even busy!
Monique was an excellent server.
It was a beautiful anniversary celebration. Couldn’t be more pleasant, from the attention received by our server to the amazing recommendation of food and wine.
Great service! Our server took great care of us! Second night of Dine LA and traffic was difficult with Paul McCarteny Concert. Ran out of Swordfish and Halibut early that day. Our server checked on us often and we enjoyed the experience. Would definitely recommend Water Grill Los Angeles
Arrived at a slower dining period, about 4:45 (we has reav). We were seated in a large booth to our surprise which was nice but unfortunately the best part of our visit. Order $15 dollar drinks, took 20 minutes to get them. Dimly lit room, so I used my camera phone light to see menu. As I demonstrated this to our snooty waiter, she said "wow, now I can't see, thanks for that." We ordered the LA Diner Week three course. My wife's meal was good. She had the salad and Filet Mignon. Filet was undercooked, but she ordered medium knowing it would never get there so med rare was fine. I ordered Chowder and Halibut. Chowder was Cream and Vegetables, with four tasty clams otherwise no flavor. Halibut was as dry as the table we were eating on, clearly overcooked. Manager was gracious and paid for my meal, and even offered another entre. We were running late due to sllllooowww service so we just paid and left.
Outstanding food; excellent and friendly service! Seafood is fresh and beautifully prepared.
Excellent food. Go for the whole fish. Fresh and finely cooked, delicious. Service was ok. The place is nice. Like it!
They were in the midst of Alaskan Halibut season.
Their halibut dish is among the best I’ve had
(A bit pricey but worth it)
THIS IS OUR 9TH VISIT. WE WERE CELEBRATING A WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. WE WERE RUNNING LATE FOR A SHOW AND DID NOT HAVE TIME FOR AN AFTER DINNER OFFER.
THEY VERY NICELY CREDITED OUR BILL FOR THAT AMOUNT.
TOGETHER WITH GREAT FOOD THAT IS THE KIND OF SERVICE THAT KEEPS US RETURNING.

On a recent dinner visit I had Manila clams as an appetizer and sea bass for the entree. The clams were excellent, well prepared in a savory sauce. However, the sea bass came in three pieces, not unlike nuggets. I have never seen fish presented like this before and wonder if this was what was intended or if it fell apart in the pan. The larger of the three was undercooked and the two smaller pieces were overcooked. There is not a lot of room for error on sea bass and whoever prepared this missed the mark. Prices for everything are on the high side and I do not feel the entree was worth the money it cost. Service was excellent.
The Water Grille is a definite hit every time! The service is excellent from the moment you step up to the reservation desk to the staff sharing tidbits of info on your items ordered upon bring them to you or simply passing by!
I started the evening with the mixed greens salad which included watermelon radishes and other delights, followed by the Chilean Sea Bass with a butternut squash smearing underneath and gnocchi which was superb! The bass was cooked to perfection with a surprisingly crispy, perfectly seasoned searing on top but light, moist and melt in your mouth perfect on the inside! This combined with the smearing was a true tastebud delight! Finally I finished the evening with the Caramel bread pudding, sooo yummy!
I LOVE this restaurant, it’s staff and of course the delicious cuisine!
