Amazing dining experience. Some of the best sushi I have tried in a long while. Would highly recommend!
We tried the Kisuke tasting menu. Every dish was delicious and perfect. Love the flavours.
Great food, and was good to see the meals being prepared in front of you. Unfortunately the waiters were very poor, it took 30 mins for our drink order to be taken then 45 mins for our food order, despite lots of staff walking past us and seeing we were waiting to be served. Wasn't a great start to the evening, but food partly made up for it.
Our inaugural dining experience at Kisume for our 13 year wedding anniversary was a truly memorable one with culinary delights that left us wanting more. We were seated at the quiet end of the counter where we got to admire the artists at work. Our 13-course Omakase was by far the best we've had. Every morsel of food was unique from the last with a freshness that we could only compare to the "just caught this morning" fish used in the sushi we had in Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market. The Omakase chef had a delightful manner and was clearly very passionate about what he does. Our server was attentive enough but unobtrusive. There were many highlights to that evening, but I will name three: the salmon nigiri had the most flavoursome salmon we have ever tasted - leaving a wonderfully distinct salmon taste in the mouth; the wagyu at the end was the perfect balance of theatrics and flavour as the smoky pate released the delicious beefiness of the wagyu; and finally...that green tea pavlova for dessert was just the exquisite! We are quite certain we will be back for more!
Well the booking system is quite misleading. I am looking to book for the omakase. Using the booking system there is a selection of standard or counter seating. I opt for counter seating but ended up seated for a non-omakase option.
While the staffs are helpful to check if I can still be seated but alas is fully booked. I was told that I should pick sushi counter but there is no such option. Anyhow was also disappointed that my special request was not catered for, as is a birthday dinner and I have specially requested for a candle on the dessert, which didn’t happened. So perhaps bad luck of mine as my previous experience was definitely better.
Kisume was absolutely beautiful. We ordered the chiefs pick and paid more for the extra fish. It was a 5 course menu and i couldn't fault it. I am gluten free and they were able to swap the meals without any issues. RECOMMEND
We loved Kisume! Thank you for helping us to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary in style with gorgeous food. Highly recommended!
The service at Kisume was outstanding: attentive, professional, friendly and helpful.
The food was delicious with immaculate presentation. The cocktails and flights were fantastic.
Décor is dark and sexy, understated.
Definitely not a cheap eats option but worth the cost for a special occasion.
Would definitely recommend to friends, especially if you love seafood or great Japanese cuisine.
The quality of the ingredients and the flavours were exceptional. I am already planning my next visit. If you like authentic, delicious Japanese cuisine then I would highly recommend Kisume.
The tasting menu was excellent but noticed that the dishes were the same size for 2 people and we paid for 3 with the exception of one more serving of the kingfish, gyozas, sushi and dessert. The edamame, mains-both the steak and fish and salad is the same quantity as for 2.
This is not a complaint- just know that it is what it is. The food was excellent but suggest that you’d get better value if you were of 2 or 4, rather than 3 or 5.
We shall return, next time to try the sushi bar.
A review was written in The Sunday Telegraph in Sydney about the restaurant to try in Melbourne if you could only pick only one and it was Kisume.
We booked it and loved it. Food, service, wonderful. Enough said!
Ate there last Tuesday night. It was busy and after reading ratings online, looked good. However...it was overpriced for not very good food. The broccolini was very dry and had something resembling rice bubbles on it, and no taste of sesame despite it being promised on the menu. The sashimi was nice, however we also ordered rice and a number of other things which weren't so good. The Gyoza was heavily fried and over-cooked and the sauce was spicy tomato rather than a classic Japanese dressing - it did not taste good. We also had edamame which was incredibly oily which meant we couldn't eat it all. Our rice didn't even come out with the other food so the meal was unbalanced, and when we asked for the bill, we cancelled the rice as it still hadn't arrived, despite us requesting it be brought out 3 times! Overpriced and underwhelming...
Unfortunately our order was not taken properly and it meant we did not receive all our food in the right order, we had to follow up with the waiter as we were sitting there hungry. Once followed up we were never told if it was coming or why there was such a delay? It just came out 15minutes later with no apology. This also meant our next dish was delayed. We had advised that we would need to be out within an hour and a half as we had to get to a show which the waiter said would be easy with how much we ordered however we ended up being there for close to two hours due to the lack of service and we were then late for our show. The food was lovely however we were left very unsatisfied with the service and would think again about dining there again.
Tasty food but way over priced for the little food you get.
Poor service, we had to continuously ask for our wine to be brought to the table to fill our glasses. Waitress was inattentive and not very helpful when discussing options for a pescatarian and another food difference. Too long between courses, we felt like we had been forgotten!
Extremely small serves and number of courses considering the expensive cost of the banquet. The male members of the group were still hungry by the end of the meal.
One of my all time favourite Japanese restaurants. This time had group of 8 so went with set menu which was amazing. Huge amount of food and everything delicious. Really good value for the quality and quantity we received. Looking forward to going back for third time to explore the amazing looking a la carte menu.
the day prior, we got a call to confirm the reservation and was asked to choice between hot counter or sushi counter, as we were planning to experience omasake . Upon arrival, we were greeted nicely but it happened to have a mixed up with the booking as we were escorted to hot counter. I have discussed the issue to the waitstaff and they were prompt about fixing it and they have moved us to seat at the sushi counter. The quality of the nigiri that was served to us was superb, Chef Ken was thorough with explaining all what was being served to us. The experience was memorable. Hats off to the Positive vibe around the staff, there is nothing more relaxing watching them enjoying what they are doing while your enjoying your meal.
amazing everything. thank you for a wonderful evening, both my husband and I enjoyed every bit of the experience.
Food, drinks and service was great, highly recommend the sushi deluxe box and also the sake drink flights. Would only come here for a special occasion as it is pricey for the amount of food which is given.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here whilst in Melbourne. Mostly, waitstaff were excellent. Having said that, it is always more pleasant when they explain what they have delivered per item. It adds to the interest, flavour and fun.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Look forward to next time.
Loved the food and service. Music was eclectic and loud at times, detracted from the otherwise pleasant ambience.
Had a lovely dinner for my bday. Food was beautifully presented, as you would expect, and very delicious.
The restaurant was fabulous, the price was quite high but the atmosphere was wonderful and perfect for our occasion. Definitely the kind of restaurant to go to if you want to treat someone special.
Sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen which was amazing to watch the chefs in action preparing amazing food.
Expensive but fantastic dining for an intimate date night Japanese food was Devine ,service is outstanding
We wouldent done here every week but it’s fantastic for the anniversary dinner or if you would like to impress someone
But it’s expencive
Went here with my boyfriend to treat him cause he's always wanted to experience an omakase. Booked a table at the counter and we were greeted with a smile with the floor staff. Service was great as they set up our tables immediately and talked us through the menu. Initially wanted to try the 88/p omakase but we went with the 120/p with 13 dishes. Our first dish, the tapioca with the edamame was really good to start with. After that came the different nigiris. The play of flavors in our mouth was beautiful and the fish was very fresh as it melts in your mouth. For 120/p it was really on the pricey side, so it's good just for special occasions and celebrations.
Impeccable service as soon as you walk through the door with amazingly crafted sushi from professional chefs and flovours from all around Australia.
Arrived 10 minutes late for booking to find that our table had been already given away. Host was quick to find us another table although it was so cramped and uncomfortable we asked to be moved. Way too many staff at the start of the night....3 separate staff explained the menu to us and offered drinks...even though we had already ordered drinks. 1 run through of the menu would have been enough. Very little communication amongst staff. Food was ok, nothing particularly exciting. Fish was beautifully fresh and presented well. Tuna tataki was the highlight of our chosen dishes. Very hard to attract the attention of staff towards the end of the night. We were asked if we would like anything more from the savoury selection to which we answered yes....the waitress rolled her eyes and looked at her watch!! The kitchen is closing in 3 minutes we were told. This was the first mention of the kitchen closing at 10pm. We shared a dessert...it was fine, average and certainly not very generous...paid and left without a good bye. Overall an average experience and quite expensive.
I thought it was quite odd that after the nigiri omakase was completed the chef didn't offer me any extra items as is customary in most nigiri omakase. Normally we would be offered different things until we are full.
Also when I asked the waitress about the a la carte menu she didn't give any specials or recommend anything outstanding. I was still abit peckish and wanted to try more dishes.
While overall I really enjoyed the meal, we actually went and had some KFC after our 15 piece nigiri omakase. I'm a 70kg very normal guy so I can't imagine others won't be feeling similar too?
The overall was not bad but it is not as what we have expected. It is definitely not worth for what you are paying for. The kakiage tempura mixed everything together and not tasting. The Udon is so expensive but taste not as good as $10 Udon from a foodcourt.
I would say it is a good restaurant but really not worth for the money.
Our section waitress was amazing and attentive as was the somellier.
However my complain stems from the host who barked at us that the Chablis lounge was closed as we were half way up the stairs- after instructions to head up there from our lovely waitress. We were intending to have a cocktail after dinner and as it was only 9pm I didn’t see the problem.
After waiting at the landing for a few minutes we were allowed to head up stairs. We sat at the bar to hear the male bartender loudly complaining that he was all packed up- so we decided to pay and leave instead.
Myself and my partner are restaurant managers and it was just an unfortunate sour end to the evening. Thankyou to the som who let us look at the rest of the portraits on the Chablis bar level.
Food was outstanding.
Everything Chris Lucas does is amazing! I've eaten many times at Kisume and will continue to return for both business and pleasure.
Lovely food but extortionate pricing for what we had.
I’ll start with the good: great looking restaurant with high-end feel. The food we had was very tasty. Unfortunately we didn’t have very much of it!!!
We had to have the $88 fixed menu as we were a group of 8. We all left hungry. We aren’t big portion kind of people but the total amount of food out in front of us for a 3 hour meal would not even have filled a single plate: 2 gyoza, a couple of sushi, a few slim slices of sashimi, a Mizo soup and half of a small fillet steak. Even dessert was very light whipped cream based...
The service was also poor (apart from the host welcoming you). Lots of people but none seemed to know what the other was doing so we ended up waiting with empty glasses etc. We tried to order two bottles of the same wine (as we were a group) but we needed several try’s before we could find one that there was more than two bottles there.
Our meal was $200 a head - and very disappointing - does not compare to other restaurants at this price point.
Exceptional food and service. Highly recommended. We did a la carte which was recommend to us by the waitress over the tasting menu or omakase and we were really happy with it.
Very nice restaurant with excellent food and service.
Overall we had a good experience at kisume. We ordered the tasting menu which was nice, however miso soup was counted as one course, ridiculous. It was very underwhelming and not even hot.
Went for birthday booking, great acoustic comfort in restaurant design and amazing food with friendly service. A special treat for the price but worth it.
Just an overall incredible experience, we loved every minute of it. I highly recommend the banquet option, everything was exquisite.
