Gwen Specialty Butcher Shop & Restaurant
We had our one year anniversary and the staff was very sweet to us about it. We got the corner table and excellent service. Gwen offers an excellent dining experience, and our dinner was over 90 minutes (we had the 5 courses). Truly memorable across the board.
Great food and service. Highly recommend
It was amazing. Gwen is one of the best restaurants in L.A., and my current favorite. The food is great, and it’s simply the best steak I’ve ever had. The wait staff are charming and knowledgeable. I’ve never left unhappy.
This is the most underrated restaurant in Los Angeles. The wagyu filet is unreal. Duck fat potatoes are to die for. Even the bread and butter is just incredible. What are you waiting for?
It was great learning new things about food from our knowledgable and friendly server, the grilled lamb ribs and the 80 day aged rib eye were the best. Beautiful space but we had fun at the chef's counter seeing all the kitchen action. Will definitely be going back.
Terrific wine list with some off-the-beaten path selections from Australia and a strong by the glass offering. The meats are terrific, with a wide selection of cuts and styles. Our Australian Wagyu was perfect, with a light pink inside a seared outside. Delicious.
We had a great time. The food was tremendous. The drinks were also delectable. Our waitress was knowledgeable and fun. We had great service from everyone in the restaurant. We would definitely go back and recommend to others. Bravo Curtis Stone and all who contributed to make our experience incredible.
Loved Gwen! The drinks were unique & well balanced. The food, absolutely delicious! And the service was so friendly and effective! The wine list is amazing, but a little daunting. When we brought that up to our server, she suggested sending the Som over. Once at our table, he asked us some clarifying questions & then when he realized we were open to his guidance, he brought 2 bottles of wine over to the table, presented them & then we choose the one that sounded more like what we were looking for. I thought it was a great way to do it....not to mention, he nailed it. Wine was interesting and paired perfectly with all of our food.
A wonderful evening. I would highly recommend GWEN!
I took my fiance here for his birthday and he totally loved it, the handcrafted cocktails were amazing. We went with the 5 course meal and it didn't disappoint. Portions were good but fulfilling, we brought our own wine to pair with our meal, and although the corkage fee is $50 we didn't mind. If you are an oyster fan, you must try theirs, they were so good we ended up ordering a second half dozen, they were from British Columbia, really tasty! We are definitely coming back on a weekend, we visited on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded at all. Last but not least, service was amazing!!!
I’ve now had the great pleasure of dining at Gwen twice in as many months. This is easily one of the premiere restaurants in Los Angeles if not the country. Gwen is outstanding in every way, yet also relaxed, comfortable and not pretentious in the manner of a number of places in LA. The staff is incredible. Warm, genuine, happy to be there and to take care of you. There are many to mention but Kamden, the manager, and Allen, my waiter both times, are simply the best.
And then the food. I’ve done the tasting menu both times and, believe me, this is the best value in town with the best food you can eat. $85 for 5 amazing courses (not small) as well as the best bread and butter you will ever have in your life. No joke. Last night one of our party was a bread maker (really good bread) and he admitted it was beyond even his. On the tasting menu, you get both items from the menu (perfectly cooked steak and their dazzling side dishes) but you get special items as well that are not on the menu. Both times, for instance, featured a pasta course; each was the best pasta I’ve had in years.
They also don’t rush you unless you have a time constraint. We had lovely relaxed meals of about 3 hours each time and we didn’t want to be anywhere else.
Gwen is special. And a marvelous taste sensation.
The food was good, but the service was beyond terrible. We did not have a reservation and was told there were no tables available despite there being open reservations online. We were told we could sit at the bar. While at the bar we made a reservation online, of which we should not have had to do. Given the poor initial service, I would not recommend this restaurant.
The staff was very attentive and pleasant. Loved that everything was served family style for 6 of us. We shared a 42 oz ribeye and scallops that were delicious. We ordered creamed leaks that were surprisingly good and don't miss the duck fat potatoes, so yummy!
Excellent service, food, and ambiance. Must experience and eat to understand.
Food was really good but considering our early dining time on a Monday (5.30) would have appreciated a more relaxed center booth
The booth to the side felt like a shoved in the corner after thought and felt a bit rushed through the meal by the staff
Food was excellent and everyone was friendly
Our experience was good, but not GREAT. The hanger steak was fantastic, as was the bread and French butter, but the two New York strips on the table were full of fat, not yummy fat, inedible fat. And our waiter, Curt, was just that... curt and arrogant, with snarky little comments. I’m not sure I’ll be going back.
Date night with my wife. We had lunch here before and decided to come back for dinner. We knew it would be expensive, and it was, but we enjoyed the experience and the food very much.
Incredible food and attentive service-- an excellent experience worth return visits!
Jeffery is an exceptional server. Everything was amazing!! Best duck ever!!
Wow! One of the best servers I’ve ever had ! If you’re unsure the tasting menu was perfect to get a broad range of what kind of food they serve. Cocktails were an added wonderful surprise . Go, go, go!
The service was bad on this reservation. Our server didn’t ask how we would like our beef to cook and it came out way to rare. Order was slow. It was for my moms birthday. I made a note in the reservation and the server didn’t greet us with this occasion. Server didn’t explain on purpose of picking our nife. Overall, not a good experience that day.
Fantastic! Great atmosphere, outstanding service and amaaazing food. They started us out with the best bread and butter ever - no joke. I could eat that bread and butter all day long. My group shared the wagyu appetizer, a bone in rib eye, scallops, creamy leeks and the potatoes. Everything was good (big fan of the potatoes). The Checkerboard wine our sommelier helped us choose was also delicious.
Perfect double date spot with excellent food!
Love the food, love the decor, and the incredible service.
Excellent food, very happy with everything we ordered; waiter and sommelier were both very knowledgeable and helped find a couple of great wines. Overall extraordinarily expensive for the value and ambiance. Unless you have a big group, definitely ask to be seated on the main level or at the bar; the upstairs room had little ambiance or energy. Rather disappointing for a Saturday night!
The food is amazing but the menu is somewhat limited. The decor is nothing fancy but nice.
Fully met expectations!! Loved it! Perfect amount of perfect tasty food!!
Excellent Restaurant, steaks are outstanding.
We LOVED the service, ambiance and food selection. Everyone on the wait staff was kind, enabling and authentic. So loved the food, the apps and the drinks. Triple threat!
great as usual. tasting menus is the way to go, but always add a few additional items and upgrade he meat course.
Paid $150 for a T-bone steak that tasted worse than what I could buy for $20 at Costco. The fillet side of the T-bone was about 1 ounce. What a highway robbery.Stay away from this overly expensive restaurant.
Best steak house in L.A.
Everything is perfect in this place.
This place was AMAZING! The charcuterie plate was delicious and perfectly balanced. They had a porterhouse special that evening that was perfect for our group. The seasoning was spot on and it was cooked perfectly. The sides were delectable, and service was outstanding. Definitely worth it to splurge here!
We had an amazing evening at Gwen last Thursday. Allen our server made it a memorable evening. His knowledge and sense of humor added to the experience. The tasting menu offers a great way to try different items. The presentation as well as the taste will bring us back again!
We were on vacation looking for a good steakhouse before a theater show. Recognized Curtis Stone from all his TV appearances. Was excited to try his restaurant with unique cooking technique. Unfortunately, for the price we were disappointed with flavor. Our server was a bit standoffish but when asked if the 80 day aged ribeye was worth the money he of course said yes. But we really didn’t get the amazing flavor we expected. In the end, we didn’t think the meal was worth the prices being charged.
300$ later we got an irritated server and bad upset stomach.. Everyone was really great and attentive except of our Server, he acted like he doesn’t hear and doesn’t understand us (maybe because we have an accent), however he had no interest in answering our questions and tried to brush us off as soon as possible. He acted like we are completely stupid when I asked why is this steak 250$. It was my wife’s Birthday so I was pretty upset about the experience. Our server acted like we got lost and this place is totally out of our league. There was no Birthday dessert and no one mentioned it. I chose this place based on good ratings but my experience was a little different. Food was good but I don’t this it was “300$ good”. We ordered dessert- it was 14$ and it was just ok. Coffee was great. Overall presentation and service is great, I just don’t think prices are justified and we got unlucky with our Server.
It was our first time dining at Gwen so, we decided to order the “taste of Gwen” and upgraded to the
Overall great experience. The cocktails were awesome and so was the food. Only negative here, is the value for what you are getting. Cocktails range from $15-$20.. $20 for a spin on negroni seems like a lot. The food was really tasty but again portions were small for the price. My friends and I are not cheap when it comes to good food and drinks but feel like we did not get as much for our money, as other restaurants like Chi Spacca.
Just amazing!!!...our 2nd time there n still great!!
Very comfortable, service was good. Most of us really enjoyed our meal. Describing the history of each steak knife felt a little precious and over the top but other people might be into that. Not sure it was worth the money to go back multiple times but for a special occasion or to just try something new, it was lovely.
