The food is fantastic. But the service is horrific!!! Took us an hour to get any food, had to constantly follow up the staff.
As always the food is amazing. Cannot go past the mac n cheese. Always a favourite when we go to melbourne. Waiter was helpful and friendly. Cant wait to come back!
The food was packed with flavour and mouthwatering! The chips were the best i've ever had and the overall value for money was fantastic. Would definitely come back!
Outstanding service and atmosphere! The foos was tasty and unique but you must order a few plates to be satisfied :)
Everytime I come to fancy hanks its magic.
Drove all the way to the city for a family outing and it did not disappoint.
I've been to a lot of bbq joints around the city and this place dominates the competition.
Awesome food !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having been here a few times and even to the old venue the last visit was very disappointing. Staff were not attentive, took ages to be seated, had to ask for menus and again to order our drinks only for our drinks to be forgotten. No one checked on us after we recieved our food or asked if we wanted anymore drinks at any point. Mac and cheese was nowhere near as good as it use to be, the rest of the food was ok but expensive for the portion sizes.
Amazing food! Delicious food! Service little slow but overall amazing good food! Best Cronbread I have ever had.
Always a treat to eat at Fancy Hanks, 11/10 every time.
Fancy Hank's delish! Typical of Melbourne barbecue joints, it's a little more refined / upmarket than the American originals - but that refinement results in a high quality dining experience. Booking online was quick and easy. The location, atmosphere and service from the staff are excellent. Great menu with good options, but let's be honest, you're there for the MEAT. Fancy Hank's is popular and they'd run out of sausages by the time we arrived on a Saturday night, but the staff were accommodating in letting us supplement with other dishes for their tasting platter. Pre-order the ribs to make sure you don't miss out because they are grouse. Great work Hank!
Food was to die for, we couldn't stop eating even though we had enough. So good
Great meat and sides with plenty of drink options.
A bit pricy but worth it.
Very disappointing experience. We were a group of 7 and the order was completely wrong and food missed. Then it finally got sorted and it felt like we were being rushed out to leave. After our plates were cleared we were asked if we wanted the bill. No mention of desserts or coffee. When the bill was brought out the waiter kept coming over to see if we were done.
Won’t be coming back here
I ended up at Fancy Hanks because it was the only restaurant near cbd without a set menu for a large group, and i loved that, what happemed to the days where people could celebrate in a group and not be dictated what to eat and how much to spend? The place is gorgeous, the food tasty. The service friendly. Totally reccomend
It feels like the food isn’t as good as it used to be. All the dishes felt smaller and was over seasoned and probably a bit too salty.
The Mac and cheese and cauliflower dishes were still good. But smoked chicken and brisket were a bit too salty. Either it was an off day for them or the quality has dipped which is a shame because it used to be a great place.
Food was just ok. Nothing special. Sausage was poor. Dry rub ribs were good but too expensive. Brisket well cooked but lacked flavour. Service was generally good.
Food was good but cocktails were on the weak side considering how much they cost. It was a very cold night and it wasn’t heated inside.
The doorman was super rude and kept swearing around, using the C word approximately 5 times in 2 minutes. It was freezing cold in the restaurant itself and super loud. The food was average and nothing outstanding, half cold by the time it arrived on the table. The person who served the meat up pushed to bowl of chips and the salad over so it was spread across the table, didn't even think of replacing it with new stuff. Ended up paying 170$ for food for 3 people at the end. Not really great service and ambience. I would not recommend this place to anyone neither, would I ever go there again. Really disappointed, for the fact that we went there for a birthday dinner.
Upon arrival we were we only given the drinks menu and asked by 3 different waiters what alcoholic beverages we wanted to order. I was annoyed at this as I had made a reservation for dinner and I had to ask a waiter for the dinnner menu, it appeared they were more keen on making money by selling alcohol.
When ordering we stated that we wanted moist brisket & the waiter said this was not allowed, we were annoyed as last 4 times we came we've have had no issues with this...is this a barbecue joint or a bar? (As all other bbq places allow it)
At the end of the dinner I went to pay & I noticed on the bill we had been over charged, fortunately the waiter corrected it with no arguement.
Food was impressive as usual but service staff were rude.
Exceptional food. Very tender and well seasoned meat and very good tasting vegetable side to accompany the mains. I’ll definitely be back!
The pork ribs were covered with some dried powder making it taste not that juicy at all.
Way over priced for the food. Even though the beef ribs were good, I will never come back here as I know I can get same quality of food for half the price.
As always, fantastic service, and the food is consistently good. Nice, relaxed place to take a friend. Gimme more of that corn bread !
Awesome Meat Fest and Cocktail Indulgence if that is your kind of thing. We loved it, great service and smokehouse vibe.
Great food and atmosphere. Definitely going back. The lamb ribs were next level.
We had a great time with family. There was something delicious for everyone.
A great dining experience if you are hungry. Pick the $50 banquet - very generous servings!
Overpriced for what you get. Food was okay but nothing special. Service was pretty terrible - asking for water 4 times and getting it yourself is a little ridiculous.
Our waiter, Michael, gave an outstanding service and we felt looked after, well fed and that a high wuiality experience was had by all of our 11 person booking.
Beautiful food (interesting flavours - and all very quick to come out!), excellent service, and cool vibe inside. After having been to a very lihd restaurant the night before, it was a pleasant change to be in such a great toned restaurant. Would 10/10 come back, and would certainly recommend to other foodie-minded friends.
Service was average, also no recommendations from the menu and no mention of my husbands birthday celebration even though it was listed in the booking. We felt like we were being hurried out for the next cover. Food was good, although quite salty. Will not be returning.
The food was exceptional! Outstanding! So delicious!
Meat lovers can’t miss out this place.
The staff are all so friendly. Definitely coming back.
Brunch is so good, light bottomless cocktails, attentive but chill service 👌🏻
Lovely food. The banquet was huge and reasonably priced.
Several of the wait staff (older gentleman in particular) were very, very unhappy and rude. Hurling menus at us and launching plates onto tables. Really ruined the mood.
We were a group of 10 and everyone enjoyed the food. Yes, there is no doubt people visit Fancy Hank's for the ribs and brisket, but the vegetable dishes seriously hold their own. The slow cooked eggplant in particular was a hit, as was the roast beet salad. Also, the deviled eggs are definitely worth trying. Our waitress was very helpful and the atmosphere was relaxed, with great background music.
I invited a group of my girlfriends out for dinner with me for my birthday. The location was great and it had a nice view of the city, we also enjoyed the rooftop bar. I was not a fan of the noise level and it was A LOT more casual than I realised so felt slightly out of place having dressed up. We were rushed from the moment I arrived, asked three times in the space of ten minutes what I would like to drink, followed up by receiving the incorrect drink order. The people working here don't seem too keen on their job and appeared grumpy all night. When everyone from my party arrived we got told that we basically had to order right then and that the table we were on was booked again at 8:30 pm even though it appeared that the majority of the restaurant (?) was not even booked...
When it got to 8:30 we had only just finished eating but at least no one else showed up so we waited around for a bit longer until we went to the rooftop.
All up an enjoyable evening although not pleasant to feel rushed about.
Food was delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Seating layout maybe slightly cramped. Unfortunately towards the end of our night we had a loud and boisterous group placed next to us which became an annoyance and forced our premature departure.
Every time we visit Melbourne we must go to Fancy Hanks, and does hank never disappoint! What a place!
$100 for a rack of ribs that was very dry. I expected much more given the hype of this place. Nowhere near as good as Hurricanes in Sydney at much better value. Won’t be going back in a hurry.
I've been to Fancy Hanks a few times now and I went back to celebrate my dad's birthday. Food was okay, pork ribs weren't hot and a little dry - different to how I recalled it previous times; the sides shrunk in size and the brisket became dry very fast. Overall, the food was still tasty but, just didn't live up to the experiences I had previously. Service was a bit of a hit and miss. At times they were super helpful but towards the end, it took at least 15 minutes for our table to be cleaned (not even wiped, just plates taken away). This was awkward for my family because we wanted to exchange gifts but the table still had crumbs of our dinner all over. The part that ticked me off was that the waitress evidently saw my family put gifts on our dirty table but proceeded to chat with the chef. Fancy Hanks is a place I would recommend but, it is not a place I'd rush to come back.
We went for the $50 brunch. We had reservations at noon and arrived 15 minutes early. There was a long line already queuing. Right at 12 people were let in and seats assigned, so that was nice. We were sat in a corner with several other tables. Somehow our table was completely overlooked. It was 30 minutes before I flagged down a server so we could place an order. Generally I wouldn't have been too bothered by it but the other tables had already received their food by this time. The drink served was really pretty tasty but had no alcohol in it, or at least enough to make it worth while. So that was disappointing. The food itself was good but served warm to cold. Again disappointing. Skip the brunch, not worth the cost. If you do go, just order from the bar and off the menu, you might receive food the proper temperature and a drink with alcohol in it.
