Food was spicy & delicious! There was an event going on but the staff was very accommodating even with the extra patronage. Kudos to the chef!
We enjoyed river view, drinks and Thai foods. We stayed more than 4hours !
This was our first time at Sambal. It was a very warm summer evening. If you want super quiet, make a reservation at 5 pm like we did. It was almost too quiet. But by the time we left, traffic picked up. The food was awesome, the staff was great, and the ambiance was really cozy and charming. My one and only suggestion would be to have umbrellas for the outdoor tables, or better yet an awning. Sitting facing west on a sunny evening at 5 pm in the summer was impossible -- a bit disappointing as we really wanted to sit outside. All in all though we'd definitely go back (just after the sun goes down)!
Nice dinner experience as always. I would come back again.
I heard about this restaurant on a local news program. Given the intent, fusion of Malay and Thai, which are two of my favorite cuisines, then how can I go wrong? The ambience was good, however when we arrive there were only one table occupied with two customers who left within 1o minutes of being seated. This was clearly a message. We were attended by two waiters, where by one was teaching the other. I have no problem with that since most are taught through some apprenticeship process. The problem was despite the limited number of customers (2), we seem to be waiting for 'some' attention.
The food was hit or miss. The appetizers (soup and pork dumplings) were on point, spicy and full of flavor. The fish, snapper, was clearly frozen. The lemon grass based sauce appeared to be pre-made, frozen, thawed and placed on the fish. The fish was tough and trashy. The chicken rendang was good and significantly fresher and better than the fish. As for desert, the mango mousse, was made in advance and chilled. It was dense and far from airy or light. It felt and tasted like dense mango lassa.
The bill was not in line with the quality of the food, in other words, too pricey for the quality and service. This was not a memorable meal and I cannot recommend Sambal to anyone.
Good food and an attentive staff. A lovely atmosphere.
Food was absolutely delicious and the waiter was thankfully very informed as to what dishes contain allergens.
Atmosphere(water front view is great) food sucked and service was a bit slow, drinks are very overpriced and not worth it IMO.
Excellent restaurant! We ate on the outdoor patio, hs one of those cool giant bowl drinks for 2, looked out at the Hudson and had a great time!
Food was just ok. Portions were very small.
enjoyed the views and ambiance however the food that was ordered and then served was not aligned. we have strict dietary restrictions and we were accidentally served animal products.
You were not rushed, Waitress was very helpful with our food allergies and the menu also shows what you can and cannot have. Noise was normal level where you could carry on a conversation without yelling. Food from apps to dessert was amazing, not too spicey for those who do not like spice, the smells as the food arrives was unbelievable. I would recommend this resturant. You are on the hudson river there is outside dining available, I suggest making reservation it was getting crowded.
Very good and authentic Thai food. Highly recommend the panang.
Made s reservation which was accepted and the restaurant called 2 hours before saying they couldn’t seat us at 8:30 because kitchen closed at 9.
Good food. Tasty. Slightly skimpy in the proteins in the food
Service Sucks! The physical space and food was good, but service was just awful. From the hostess yelling down the stairs when we arrived to wait staff rushing, then ignoring, us, to the staff saying no outside tables yet we watched an outside table sit empty for more than a half hour (and they are supposedly unreservable) there was a miss all around with the employees. The manager tried to make up for it, but I don't think it was enough for us to return. Shame too as the space, location, and food quality were decent. Maybe consider this for take away?
Food and location were great. Bill for 2 for some appetizers and 2 cocktails was $88 (a bit much) and service was slooooowwwwwww
Excellent Thai cuisine, friendly service, nice interior atmosphere, and beautiful outdoor patio.
The food was good. Service was inexperienced and inattentive. The outside seating is pleasant and the view of the new bridge, "The Cuomo", was outstanding. Why couldn't they name it "Tappan Zee 2"?; i don't know?
The food was excellent!! Location is very nice, great daytime hangout on the deck. Service was average.
Seated immediately in accordance with our reservation; food was delicious (had curry puffs, green papaya salad, chicken massaman curry and chicken pad Thai) and service was great (although our waiter was slightly inundated by the end of the sitting, but very pleasant person!). Will definitely go again - hopefully soon this summer so we may sit out on the patio (sat inside which was also nice, though)!
The food was delicious and the service was good. If you sit outdoors bring a hat and sunglasses. The afternoon/evening sun and metal tables make for a blinding combo
We had chicken larb in lettuce cups, green papaya salad, and Penang curry with deuce.
I found the rest two under-spiced, but thee duck as good.
We had a great time and my dad enjoyed his birthday meal. My mom & I shared this giant fishbowl drink with smoke and that was super awesome.
Food was delicious. Waiter was attentive to our time constraints despite having a very full restaurant and a tech system that was down. Food was delicious. Sunset was beautiful. Even the parking lot was entertaining as 5 tri-wheelers rolled through. Fancy drink was okay - probably a better value to stick w beer or wine.
Second year in a row we took our Daughter and Son in Law here for their birthdays. Always an excellent choice for delicious food and drinks. Service is good too!
Food was only fair. Service was slipshod and inhospitable.
I went during Restaurant Week at the earliest opening time (11:30am) on a Monday.
I was the only one there, it was very nice for me. The waitperson was very nice and highly competent.
I got the Pengang duck, the roti with dipping curry, and the rice pudding. I also got (to-go) a massaman curry and a sticky rice dessert.
I highly recommend them. They have a lot to offer and they have a lovely ambiance (on a quiet 11:30am Monday).
I especially recommend it for a date-dinnerr/lunch during HVRW because it's a great deal.
Wonderful fresh food! Great location on the river. Looking forward to returning when the weather gets warmer so we can dine outside o m the deck!
Flavorful food, but skimpy portions at a steep price. App: the chicken satay and spring rolls which were excellent quality and price. Entree: shrimp green curry- very flavorful, but $4 surcharge for shrimp and I only got 4 shrimp seemed steep. Not many vegetables either, though nice variety.
Sunday brunch with friends. Restaurant was convenient with lots of easy and free parking. Food was very tasty and service was friendly (albeit a bit slow). Prices are reasonable and noise level was low, allowing for conversation.
Solid Thai place by the water. Nice ambiance - great for dates.
The food was delicious! The noise level was beyond my preference, but I’d go back for the food!
Meal was delicious. We had chicken satay and massaman curry with beef abd tofu. Everything was great!
Food is flavorful, ingredients are fresh and the dishes are exotic and well prepared. The service is very good, very friendly and professional. The space is really unique as well
Have not gone out on Valentines, Mothers Day, in quite a long time. Decided to give it a try and remembered why we do not venture out on those days. Service got worse as the night went forward. Most of the food was good. Will most likely give it another try at some point.
Would have been happier sticking to the regular menu, price fix was not worth it.
Love the food!
Beautiful ambiance and great service. Waiter was able to ask the kitchen to make my meal less spicy. Were very patient and responsive when we had to leave because of our crying infant
Excellent restaurant for birthday parties. Food was delicious and staff was super helpful.
