Olivine wine bar is nestled inside of the 170-year-old heritage-listed bluestone walls of the former HM Pentridge Prison.

You will meet your host to guide you through this unconventional space, until you find yourself in velvet-clad, faintly lit booths. Hidden away, the only distraction here is our novel-like book of wine, your key to our walk in cellar.

Olivine is a place for all from the most passionate to those just beginning their journey of wine. Our list is written in a way that encourages you to sample different regions, we hope you'll come away with a few new favorites or some wines to add to the bucket list.

Not really a place for food to be frank. But most of what we had was reasonable. The fried chicken was pretty poor. Interestingly for a wine bar, very limited range of wines by glass. It is not a venue to sit at for hours - seems to be positioned as a before or after somewhere else?? Service was variable. On arrival a person went to seat us and then disappeared. We had to ask another person who looked after us. It is table ordering, so you have to wait for someone to walk past. The venue itself is interesting - being part of the old gaol they have had to make small spaces work - and for the most that works. But of course that adds to the issue of needing wait staff to be regularly checking in on whether you want to order something else. Interesting experience, but the price was not justified by the service or the food, etc. Do it once but no need to return.

Superb food and wine, attentive staff and great quirky atmosphere in the jail. It’s the second time my fiancée and I have been in the last couple of months and have been really impressed both times. It’s difficult to find anywhere that can tick all of the boxes, and this certainly does for us.

Took friends for lunch, they have done an outstanding job of the refit, just mind blowing. The staff were all very friendly however the attention to service was lacking a little, clearing etc - food was nice not outstanding, I found it very strange that for a tapas type menu none of the dishes were given serving utensils (we had to use our individual knife and forks that we were eating off) and meals seemed like the were missing bits or not set properly ie burrata was lovely but no bread/ crackers with it - pate didn’t seems set properly was like a mousse Keeping water glasses topped it was a bit slow happy to keep my own fill just leave me the jug. All this being said We would definitely go back for drinks and people to have a look at how beautiful it was, we may not eat food again

Amazing experience, can’t say enough about the waiter. He was so helpful and understanding about my lack of knowledge in wine and had great recommendations!! Wine was to die for as well!
