Little Sister - Downtown
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you"re being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Scott Young along with Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.
Delicious food!!! Great service:). Great ambience. We loved every bite! Thank you
I used to love coming here when they had the prawn salad, it was one of my favorite. They actually removed it from their menu a little while ago and I have gone back several times. The lemongrass beef entree is my go to. Overall, it is a very average experience. Service is egh, the food is decent, and ambiance is also OK. You must have a reservation or else the likelihood of them taking you in is fairly slim. They just don't have the capacity, the space is fairly small.
The front desk was unorganized and clueless. The wait staff today was very curt and unhelpful. Not the usual pleasant experience today.
Every dish was great, typical downtown LA dining prices-- as in a few more dollars than you'd probably prefer to spend. Beer list was a little short, but overall can't complain, Would definitely come back.
service was excellent.......food was fresh and full of flavor
Excellent food, as I have come to expect from Little Sister. Felipe is a friendly, knowledgeable waiter.
Dinner with a friend before driving to The Forum for a concert, and all went well!
Music too loud. Only one waitress. Food delicious....!
This was my second time at LS and I ordered the Pork and prawn clay pot again but this time, it had way too much sauce in it and the sauce had too much citrus in it. It tasted very sour. The nem nuong needs a crispy fried element in the center like Brodard’s in Garden Grove and the sauce was very tangy and did not taste good. It was too loud in there too.
Food is always really good with a lot of flavors, service is great, decor is great, music is great.
This was my first time in the downtown branch. The decor is nicer than in Manhattan beach, and the food is as good if not better. This is a restaurant you go to for the cooking.
Other than the rice paper(spring roll dish) and the fried cod dish, we were impressed with the flavor and presentation. Probably because we had high expectations in the beginning, so it feel like they were as good as we imagined it would be. We ordered a Shaky Shaky beef as one of their signature dish, but it was much disappointment. The beef was dry and flavorless. The "garlic fried rice" on the side has zero garlic flavor, but taste more like rice with ketchup. The fried cod was good but the lettuce wrap got our hands all sticky. E fu noodle was also one of their famous dish. But the egg has no flavor and the noodles were just okay. Overall, not impressive and wouldn't recommend for a conversation starter restaurant.
I’m sad to say that my fiancé and I will not be visiting this restaurant ever again. Thursday night was a terrible experience on multiple fronts. We have been coming to this restaurant to share nice date nights for months since we tried it. We have recommended this place to so many of our friends and family and we no longer have any good things to say about this restaurant.
My fiancé and I sat down at our table and after not getting any attention from our server Courtney for nearly 10 minutes.. I got up to go to the bathroom. While I was in the bathroom she came to take our order. About 20 minutes later.. she brings half of what we ordered out. When we asked where the other half of our order was she responded with “you only ordered one thing.” No sorry, no understanding and no owning up to her mistake. We put in for the rest of our order and we waited for her to bring it out. While waiting we were starting to get frustrated that there was no sense of urgency to bring out the other part of our dinner. I asked the waitress if she forgot because it took nearly 20 minutes to get it which is unacceptable for a 22 dollar bowl of noodles. At this point we were starving, our food that got brought out first was cold and frankly we were annoyed that our waitress was so rude and insincere. The people sitting next to us were shocked at how rude and inconsiderate she was and even leaned over to tell us that they heard us order two orders and not just one. The behavior of the waitress was not of someone that cares about customer service and in my opinion she is in the wrong profession.
The thing that makes this all worse is that my fiancé that ate the food that came out late got a stomach flu that lasted two days immediately after eating here this time. It was obvious that Courtney was upset with the advice that we gave her about taking care of customers and it may be that she took that out in our food.
Our bill reflected the entire amount. Even the forgotten food.
The food was excellent and I appreciated that the restaurant could accommodate my friends dietary requirements.
Try the salt pepper lobster. Crab bahn mi was fantastic as well. I'll be back.
Food was great but it’s just too loud in there.
Great menu of diverse options. Should sell liquor too.
Fabulous food and way too much, but we ate it all.
The hostess was a bit rude, the server was extremely knowledgeable and polite, the food was amazing.
Celebrated my best friends birthday for dinner at this restaurant on a Monday night. The restaurant was recommended by my sister who as dined at the restaurant before with her friends. Overall the food was amazing! Great flavor from each dish. There were 4 of us so we each ordered an entree and 2 extra dishes as the lovely server advised us that the dishes were family style. We ordered the black and red rice, pork belly, e fu noodles, shaky shaky beef, the braised cod and the crepe. The only criticism about the food is that the braised cod dish should not be considered a family style dish. Literally one piece of cod that was about a spoonful. Hard to taste the cod when there was barely any there.
My criticism would have to be about the ambience and service at the restaurant. When we checked in, the hostess did not greet us. She just looked at us and waited until I said that we had a reservation. Then she said “name?” Then picked up the menus and walked us to the table. Not so inviting. Also, It’s loud in the restaurant. The
Music playing was all rap to which I enjoy but it’s hard to have a conversation when the music and crowd is super loud. A family actually came in and had to leave because it was too loud for them. The server was lovely but she never told us her name. She gave great recommendations and checked in on us frequently. The other servers or busboys on the other hand more than a handful of times would come to the table and while we were serving either ourselves, would cross over to get a plate or fill the water cup. Again, I appreciate that the service is quick and they are attentive but not when I’m trying to spoon hot food into a bowl and I have to stop midway because im in your way. 😑
Yes, I’d come back for the food. It’s delicious but I stand by my rating for the ambiance and service.
service is awful. hostess is absentminded and can care less about her job.. i believe you’d have to tip her separately for a smile or menus. waiter was slightly better. food is not up to par. extremely loud atmosphere.
Crispy rice and saigon beef were delicious. The lobster came out whole which is always disappointing because its buttery and slippery and hard to get at. Wonderful service. Overall delicious as always!
Incredible as always! I have been here several times but it was a first for my
Kids I brought here on vacation. Food ROCKED! We had such a great time!! THANK YOU to ALL the staff!
Celebrated a friend’s bday. Although pricey, the food was great! Enjoyed every dish we ordered except the dumplings because it came very late. Our nice waiter was nice enough to have removed the item from our check.
Our waiter was a bit full of himself. He was also snippy. Probably won't be back.
Food was amazing, service staff was nice too, just grossly understaffed.
The food was amazing and service was excellent!
Got there 45 minutes late due to unforseeable circumstances, but Ken seated us right away. Despite the crowd, everybody was courteous and the food was delicious.
Shaky Shaky Beef was very tender, juicy and full of flavor. The tomato and garlic rice on the side was perfect for it. That dish was being ordered left and right.
Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding was gorgeous. I wish I had another stomach for more of it.
Ambiance is casual and homey but the crowd was very energetic and loud, which was fine by me.
Conveniently close to 7th/Metro Center station.
We were very happy with our experience! Every aspect of the meal was excellent from the service to the food.
Excellent and innovative choices. Only downsides were not enough space between tables and in aisles, and noisy.
Great menu choices, don’t miss the red/black rice! Go early, it gets crowded!
The food is always great!
Food was good. Service was ok. We told waiter that our friend is allergic to shellfish and beef and ask what his recommendation as appetizers. He mentioned a vegan roll. It came shrimp and beef roll and we told manager what happened she was not a bit of help at all. Instead, we'll look like you have a lot on table, would you like to put in another order of vegan. We didn't argue as she doesn't understand "customer service ". We said no. Somehow, later toward the end a vegan rolls came, no words of sorry, here it is at our complimentary... etc.
Well... that's that!
Phenomenal place with extremely delicious food. I usually go there about 2-3 times a month.
The only issue I have is finding parking but it’s worth it.
My friends and I came to Little Sister for dinner. Made reservation at 8:00 pm and when we got there host said our table is not ready (we got there on time) and it's first come and first service. Then why did you take a reservation??? Our table wasn't ready until 8:20. So we had to waited for 20 minutes with our reservation. But the food was amazing!
excellent food served in abundant amounts . . . attentive wait staff . . .
our waitron, Sabrina, was very knowledgeable and quite personable . . .
good news! this place has always had amazing food, but the noise level was so unbearable you couldn't have a conversation.... but not anymore! it's under new management personnel now, and they keep the radio down to a reasonable level, so it's very comfortable and easy to experience with friends. and as always, every dish they serve is awesome. accept your waiter's recommendations and you won't be sorry! we'll definitely be going back (after a long time away due to the former loudness). so happy the noise level has been resolved! this (and Bestia) are our favorite places downtown.
Service was kind of slow, and there was a huge moth flying around inside the restaurant and the waiters there did nothing about it......
Soooo good... I'm Asian, a gourmet, and a world traveler, so my standards are pretty high. This is honestly this is some of the best island-style food I've eaten. It's traditional, but with a twist. The service is also impeccable. My waitress always had a smile on, and was really quick to service me...I tipped her 30% or something because I was so impressed with the speed and professionalism. Would definitely visit again.
We were a little late. I called to let them know They were ok with that. We had theater tickets and they served us quickly. And the food was fabulous as always.
