The food is good, but the servers are not very good; they do not pay attention to the tables and they forget the orders!
It was a great experience overall with food, service, and my sister had a great time for her birthday. Thank you to our waitress Maggie who was really helpful and attentive to the group. Thanks for being a trooper and bringing several buckets of beer sometimes two at a time lol.
Food was ok. Service was slow. When you have a packed house of drinkers, you definitely need more servers!!! Waited almost 20 mins for a drink! And its pricey!!
This place was ok. Good appetizers (nachos, chicken wings), really good music if you want to dance. But service was very slow, had to repeatedly ask for the drinks we ordered. We were sat at a booth upstairs and that area needs to be revamped, the black tables are scruffed and scratched, the paint on the walls is scratched, felt run down and ghetto. But we went downstairs to dance so, if you just want to dance and ignore everything else it’s fine.
A true Gem in the city of ELA . Service was excellent . Music was fun. Food was delicious.
Always have a good time too bad they have to close at 2 I’m sure I’m not the only one that would like to stay later on thru the night
Romantic dinner done right. Only thing was the lighting was too dim. We used the candle light to read the menu lol
WORST PLACE, MADE RESERVATION FOR DINNER NO KITCHEN NO SEATING RESERVED POOR SERVICE. THIS PLACE GIVES EAST LOS ANGELES BAD NAME, YOUR BETTER OFF EATING AT A TACO TRUCK. OR KING TACO GOOD FOOD.
Great spot for pre-show drinks and appetizers.
Food is always consistently tasty. Atmosphere is intimate, if a little dark. Best bread pudding I've ever had. One of my favorite places.
It seems like this place is slowly going in a different direction. It's not as fun for a night out anymore.
So I made a reservation only to arrive and find out that the kitchen wasn't going to be open for the night. I was very upset.
Great experience. I go there about once a month to dance. Joe and his crew to an outstanding job. This time I went for my birthday, fun times.
Celebrated a first year wedding anniversary there. Great food, wonderful service and friendly atmosphere. It's a first class restaurant in the East L.A. neighborhood. Special shout out for the best bread pudding EVER for dessert.
Absolutely love cities!! It has fantastic drinks and an awesome DJ.
The place is nice but service is bad. It took 45 minutes to get an order of wings . The manager tried to say it only had been 15 minutes. Also said they were busy. The place wasn't crowded. They messed up our drinks then had attitude. They need better service and management.
I have ate at Cities quite a few times in last year and I have always enjoyed the food regardless of what dish I have ordered there is enough of a variety that there's something for everyone I love the Salmon Dish and the filet my extended family lives the ribeye's
Love coming here for after work drinks and appetizers. It's a hidden gem, not what you expect to find in the neighbor. The appetizer menu is not your regular nachos and wings appetizers and everything is delicious. I have tried the sliders, the tacos, ceviche, Lobster Mac&Cheese, and The Shrimp and Corn Escabeche which reminds you of the corn man lol. All the food is Mexican inspired, but with upscale presentations. The drinks are great, and each day they have different drinks specials. In the evening, they even get the DJ going and a dance floor. Great place to chill after work, and then party all night. The staff is friendly and the food is fast. The bartender makes great drinks.
Really cool spot! Yummy food and delicious cocktails!!! They also have a great DJ. Really cool ambiance. Friday's and Saturday nights are the busiest. Definitely recommend for a good night out. Even just a date night.
We had to ask for our server to come check on us after every drink. food was under cooked. no one didnt cared for us being there.
The food was very delicious, but our plates were served separately and at least 5 minutes apart. We did not enjoy a group dinner.
Wanted to get a table upstairs, but their was no table available. We sat at the bar, bartenders and staff where real nice and accommodating to us. The only think I did not like, the dance floor was too too packed and we kept getting bumped and drinks spilled on.
After dinner we hung out at the bar,the bartender was serving up some great drinks. I forgot his name, but it was the white bartender.
We had a birthday dinner and our waitress was great very courteous and drinks also great while we waited for whole party to arrive . After 1 HR we finally ordered dinner but only thing we didn't like our dinners didn't arrive promptly one after another . We had to wait like 10 minutes to 20 for all dinner plates to make it to table.
We had a great time. However, someone in our group had their cell phone stolen.
This place should be busier. They were a bit surprised that anyone found them via Open Table, and I think the neighborhood might not support them as much as special events will, but the food and the wait-staff were both excellent and interesting. If you're jumping on or off the 710 as we were, stop here and try the desserts as well.
This place was slow to seat us (40 minutes) in getting our seating despite the reservation, the "crafty" beer selection was awful, beer bottles were warm, happy-hour menu is minus any real savory choices, the cocktail drinks were watered down. We decided to call it after they moved our table for the "club" (and could not arrange any seating for us) then they moved us to a corner where we might as well be in our home living room with a loud speaker on (no one danced while we were there, except for US!)...the man/waiter that was cleaning said it wasn't his section (although he did take our drink order) he said he would send over a waitress (that only stuck her head in once!) after that we walked to the bar instead. We called it at night at 11:30pm. I understand they are trying to hip but to only offer IPA's and only have 4 beers on tap, doesn't make any sense, the crowd you are trying to attract is not there (hence how empty it was) if I want to spend $20 on a drink I can go elsewhere and it will be cold and strong, a place where my waiter looks older than 15 y/o and he is not busy comparing tattoos and piercings with the other waiters, we left and headed out to Pizza Hut cause the sliders were so dry, stick to the chips and guacamole! Better yet, go somewhere.
What a gem of a restaurant Cities is. I didn't know quite what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly and helpful, a selection of very worthy beers, and a varied and interesting menu.
I have a lunch date later on this week, and we will be at Cities as I want to make a good impression.
On the east side of downtown, but a few miles outside downtown, cool places are rare. Cities restaurant stands out as such. Good vibe, best happy-hour, original, innovative, trendy and good food, limited and too warm red wines, but that can be improved I suspect –just need the customer base for them- and plenty of beers. The decoration is modern and comfortable. I started a 5:45 early dinner and the place was full of… well, cool people! Where did they come from? Two hours later, I left the place, happy, well fed and with a bill very low, considering what went down. A must try and, for me, a must return.
Given the neighborhood where Cities is located, this is one pretentious place! I'd imagine that this is a good bar scene place on the weekends. As a restaurant, they have a lot to learn. Their food is average, but overpriced and over hyped.
Good but nowhere near great or exciting.
This restaurant is conveniently located right off the 710 Freeway.. We thought we would try Cities Restaurant as a convenient stop-off before an event in DTLA. We were so glad we did. Every dish was expertly and innovatively prepared. The ingredients were all fresh. The chef came out to personally greet us after we sent our compliments.
This out of the way restaurant is absolutely terrific. Chef Zuniga prepared for us a Devine meal including my five course tasting menu. For $40. The food was creAtive, innovative, and beautifully plated. My meal started with a homemade vegetable soup that was subtle and delicious. Followed by a thin cut giant radish slice with lobster inside eaten as a toco. Stupendous. A cheese pasta followed that was rich and flavorful. A thick cut perfectly prepared lamb chop followed and a pound cake desert ended the meal. My wife had a NY steak with the best Mac and cheese we ever tasted. Steak was perfect too. We are early so there were few patrons and we met the chef who is a 22 year old master of the kitchen. We told all our friends about this place and plan to return. A must visit place. Kitchen closes at 10 and the place becomes a DJ managed club.
