Soaring above Chicago's skyline on the 40th floor of One Financial Place and under the culinary direction of Chef/Owner Jean Joho, Everest serves some of Chicago's finest personalized cuisine. "Though the restaurant has a spectacular unobstructed cityscape as a backdrop, the food is what commands attention," said Chicago Magazine, which has voted Everest four stars for the tenth year in a row, since Everest opened.

We had excellent service and the amount of food provided for the fixed course pre-theatre dinner was just right. Enjoyed our visit and would recommend to others. Nice view from the top of the building.

My wife and I got married in one of their private rooms three years ago, and we've returned for our anniversary each year. The food and the service are fantastic a always. It's definitely a special occasion place.

As for special events, our wedding there was fantastic. They helped to plan everything and even had a special vegan menu for one of my wife's nieces. Everyone who was at it had wonderfully memorable time. We'll returning for our anniversary each year.

To be honest, I was expecting more. We were dissatisfied with a few of the options we ordered but no one came around to check on us so we never had a chance to voice our concerns. $355 is a lot to spend on a meal you’d rate a 3 star. Individually the servers are clearly more than capable of Michelin star service, but together they fail to work as a cohesive team. Signature duck was dry and lacking flavor. The venison (main) and lobster (starter) were amazing! The staff was attentive to my gluten allergy which is much appreciated.

Modern fine dining experience for classic French food with an Alsatian twist. The staff finds that perfect balance of being there we you need them but only when you need them, and they seem equipped for any circumstance. Every dish is thoughtful and all the ingredients are well sourced. Combined with the view, it truly creates an occasion.

As it happens, we stayed at the Buckingham hotel the night we dined, so we only needed to walk down the hall to get there and back, which helped preserve the afterglow.

I took my wife here for her birthday with high expectations given the reputation of the restaurant. I was disappointed in the food and ambiance, although the service was generally quite good. The food (appetizers and entree) is simply underwhelming in terms of its flavor, presentation, and creatively. We ordered the lamb and sea bass, both of which were rather bland and unremarkable. When you go out to a restaurant you want to experience something you cannot get at home because it's too time consuming to make, you lack the skills to make it, or it is unique in some way that justifies $100+ per person not including wine. The prices here are also eyebrow raising ($24 for a cocktail!) for what you get. The highlight was the desserts, which were excellent, well presented, and generous. As for the ambiance, at least where we sat, the view was awkward (both of us looking out at the wine station), and the decor is very old-fashioned and outdated. Having been to nearly every Michelin stared restaurant in Chicago, this one ranks near the bottom. I really wanted to like Everest, but it seems like the climb to the top (ok, it was two elevator rides), was not worth the view...

Everest greatly surpassed our expectation. From the moment you enter the restaurant their friendly, yet professional service was exquisite. Their wine selection is magnificent and the chef’s selection was perfect.

Excellent experience overall, definitely one of the best dining experiences I have had in my life. The staff was extremely attentive and gave great detail on the preparation and origin of the dishes and ingredients. Only had one problem with one server but it was quickly rectified by another. Would definitely go back.

Fantastic cooking, impeccable yet friendly service. Were able to accommodate dietary restriction with our selection of the tasting menu. Other than the dessert course which was a soufflé with rhubarb compote that was too sweet, the balance of each course was spot on!

My wife and I had a great time at Everest. We knew going in this was going to be a rather expensive experience. Our bill was $850, and with tip about a $1,000. We ordered a wonderful $300 bottle of wine, which was truly excellent! However we we hoping for a better experience. An experience to me is not just the food, but the ambiance as well as the service...and it starts when you pull up. I may be wrong but I did not see any prominent sign out in front directing us, and although we got to the right place, it was odd, taking 3 elevators and having garage/vallet attendant explain where to go, then the buildings security...it lacks pomp and circumstance for such a notable establishment. The service is cold and too matter of fact, and we were hoping for a bit more excitement by the staff in detailing the food we were about to order, etc. The food while high quality is not all too memorable...there was no wow factor. In fact I have had much better experiences in restaurants for a 1/3 the price.
The room is dull, cold, and bland. I can hear other table's conversations easily and the staff while attentive, seem bored like its just another day...I think if the staff realized how special it is for people to choose to dine there and how people may want to "feel as though" they're in such a special and unique place the staff might understand better. While some may afford to dine daily at an establishment like Everest, many would have to save up in order to experience such a place. It should be held to the highest standards in all aspects.

We celebrated our anniversary by sampling the vegetarian prix fixe dinner, which was fabulous. Once you get over the sticker shock, you realize that only the finest ingredients are used in fastidious preparations. The wine pairings were perfect. The service was friendly and helpful, the view panoramic, and the ambiance elegant. All in all, Everest is a great place to celebrate special events.

We went for my wife's birthday with our entire family. It was my second visit, my first being about six years ago. I realize that most restaurants do not enforce a strict dress code anymore, but I found that Everest has no dress code and this detracted from our experience. Many diners were dressed in jackets and dresses and smart casual as one would expect for a restaurant at this price point. Then two men showed up in gym shorts and worn cotton tee shirts and they were seated without question. Maybe the restaurant is struggling to fill seats so they no longer have any standards. This is unfortunate and we will not be returning. The room is great, the food was good and the service was adequate. The Michelin star for Everest should be reconsidered.

My daughter and I had dinner at Everest on May 21 during a Chicago trip. We chose Everest because of its being French in menu and reputation. We were greeted and seated with friendliness and dispatch, and our table overlooked the city, through a wall/window. Both our primary waitress and the sommelier were helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable, answering all questions briefl, yet thorougly. The sommelier made two good wine suggestions of the three we tried. (We had the dégustation menu, but declined the wine flight, because many of the wines (4) were Alsacian, which are fine at times, but we preferred Burgundy or Bordeaux. The meal was well-paced, not too hurried, but we had no long waits for the multi-course meal that was French in construction and model, but also had an American flair. We particularly enjoyed the foie, perfectly cooked, and the lamb, also well chosen and perfectly prepared. Each course was adequate, but not over-filling, so we enjoyed everything until the last dish, and were satisfied, without being overly full. The chef used many local items in his dishes, including American cheeses, which were delicious. (But not quite as full bodied as French counterparts.)
Finding the restaurant is a little difficult for out-of-towners, even with both our GPS walking apps working. Taxis cannot enter the financial area surrounded by buildings, and there is a short walk from any point they deliver you. Our new-to-Chicago taxi driver was confused by the address and which building Everest used, so we had a five-minute walk after leaving the cab.
The restaurant was full, but the noise level no more than moderate, and I couldn't tell whether or not they had a second seating, because our meal began at 6:30 PM and we didn't leave until nearly 10:00 PM, but there was NO sense that they hurried us.
It was an expensive meal by our standards, even including fine dining in France, but worth it. Expect to pay for the good food and service you will receive.

Server had a lovely smile but after she asks if you want a cocktail refresh, then you ask her twice and finally have to ask the busboy, it ends up being sadly memorable. Wasn’t an issue with my condition. She finally brought the drink and I refused it minutes before we were getting up to leave.

My wife and I enjoyed Everest very much. The food was awesome and the service was impeccable. The whole experience was classy.

We both ordered the tasting menu. 7 or 8 courses (I lost count), each of which was incredible. Tasting menu servings were small, but by the end we were pleasantly full. The dessert soufflé was to die for!

We will definitely return, maybe with friends.

Overpriced mediocre food with less than pleasant servers. Wouldn’t recommend. For fine dining prices, many things were off — I.e, non simultaneous serving of courses, delayed beverage service, no dairy alternatives for coffee, white napkins for dark pants or dresses = lint. The steak was nothing to write home about and came out cold. Duck and amuse bouche were excellent, as was dessert.
