We are regulars at The Duke William and absolutely love this pub. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The roast dinners are particularly delicious!!

Lovely ambience for a relaxing Sunday lunch.
Roast was delicious and generous. Service was initially excellent and friendly, but fell away gradually and by coffee and dessert hard to catch a waitperson’s eye!

What a lovely place. It was unexpectedly busy the day we went and unfortunately waited over an hour and half for our starters and then another hour for main. Serving staff were very apologetic, however I would think twice about going again.

Lovely village. Surprise package of a great pub with good ambience, great value food compared with rip off so called gastro pubs in the area. Very friendly professional staff. Monday night 'steak nights' with half a bottle of house wine thrown in was exceptional value. Highly rated.

Impeccable on every scale when we came for dinner.

Have booked a midweek overnight stay on Thursday 1st August as a special occasion for my daughter and I to spend some quality time there.

It will be a perfect way to end her visit home to England, before she flies back to work in Suzhou China

Love the Duke William and it never disappoints. The summer menu is lovely and there are a few tasty seafood dishes on offer , the prawns for starter and Duke mussels were really fresh and full of flavour. The steaks are fantastic too according to my partner . Desserts are delightful , any dessert , all of them in fact!!! They have a quality wine list and the gin and vodka choices are vast . It is the little touches at this family gastro bar that make me smile, the candles in wine bottles, the quirky pictures on the walls , the large wooden tables and the benches strewn with sheepskin. This all adds to the ambiance and makes this venue special . Highly recommended for all ages, oh and let's not forget the dogs ! They're welcome too .

Excellent Experience food and service was wonderful. Only knocked down ambiance due to having a very noisy group on the table next to us that evening

Had a table booked outside for two for lunch on Friday, arrived on time, two members of staff were there, one behind the bar, one passing by, no one talking to us or greeting us. The pub wasn't very busy with only a few people there. We waited several minutes but then decided to go ahead to the back and find a table outside ourselves.

While seated we finally made contact with a member of staff. We were given menus and told they would only get us one drink and we would have to get further drinks at the bar ourselves. The food arrived fairly quickly and even though quite expensive (which we were aware of prior to booking) couldn't be faulted - absolutely delicious.

The attitude of staff however was poor. The person who brought the food couldn't barely muster a word, made us feel awkward. While we were eating, the server who took the order came by to ask if we perhaps had a reservation. When I said we did, she said we should have let them know on arrival. I explained we tried but had no luck being greeted let alone being seen to our table.

All in all a very unfriendly and disinterested attitude by staff there. When I paid (at the bar), we were asked if all was OK. I said the food was great, which was true. I didn't get into our whole experience. I normally don't bother letting them know and just don't go back. The only reason I'm writing (a less than stellar) review is because it's easy to improve this and they should. It was the first time in my life I didn't leave a tip.

What a lovely pub, set in an idyllic village. From the moment we walked in the service was great, the waiting staff being friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks available. Getting onto the food, absolutely delicious. Thank you one and all at the Duke William, we will be back.

Lovely location, nice looking place as well. Sadly the food was disappointing and did not align with the description in the menu - there was no spice in my wife's meal, which resulted in it being bland.
There are better places to eat in the area

Wonderful, local, public house with an interesting and varied menu.
The staff were friendly and accomodating and the food arrived promptly.
Portions sizes were fine for both courses (couldn't manage desserts!!) with clear tastes and well seasoned plates.

I have given food 3 stars as it was okay but didn’t quite live up to the rest of the experience which was fantastic. The food is normal pub fare and a little uninspiring ( the duke burger is really nothing special and all bread and not much burger) .I feel that if the food could be raised a notch, a little more enticing, then this lovely pub would be a 10 out of 10!

We were an hour early but there was no problem and we were seated immediately. Difficult to make a choice as a very good selection on the menu. We all four ended up with roasts, beef and lamb. Cooked just as it should be pink! Generous amount of meat and red cabbage, cabbage, roast potatoes and delicious cauliflower cheese. We were all very full but did manage dessert! Lovely light roulade.
Service pleasant and quick.Only downside was a table with two couples and five young boys who were very noisy sitting near us. The parents did nothing to quieten the children who were even allowed to sing loudly at the table.

We had a lovely Sunday Roast at Duke William. The pub/restaurant had such a nice feel, being trendy but relaxed and comfortable. We had a table looking out into the garden, where several children were playing. It was very family friendly which added to the atmosphere. The service was friendly and we came away saying we would definitely return. Overall very good

With inedible mackerel that was muddy and pappy, roast potatoes underdone in the middle, red cabbage sickly sweet and gravy thin and tasteless, and with prices to suggest one Michelin Star, this place has undeserved notions off grandeur. It was fine before the chef changed.

I might recommend it for the food and location but would have to warn about the poor service that we had. For much of the time our waitress seemed to ignore us and it's not as if they were particularly busy. I'm unlikely to return in the near future.

Tasty food and good service. Could do with a few low carb/low calorie/salad/less stodge items on the menu, especially for lunch. Most items come with pastry, batter, chips, bread or breadcrumbs. As a local who has eaten in The Duke 4 times this week, I really would appreciate a healthy option or two.

we came to the duke William back in January and had a fantastic dinner experience. we recently visited for lunch and was extremely disappointed. not only did you not have drinks that would be expected from a pub/restaurant but the lunch time menu was extremely basic, not at all appealing when plated up and extremely over priced for what we got. there are limited choices and many of the options are not available for one reason or another. while I appreciate that this is a lovely place, I didn't appreciate that staff came trundling through with there asda easter shopping not minding people or how loud they were being with people dining there. overall we had a disappointing visit and went home not only thirsty but hungry as well.
