The food was great! However, service was horrible. They forgot our drink orders and 3 different people returned to the table 4 different times to take the same order. Then they confused our drink order with another table. When we finally got our drinks, after about 30 minutes & at the end of our meal, they blamed the bar for the delay. However, the bar was nowhere near busy and the bartender at one point was just standing doing nothing as we waited. The drinks were good, not worth the wait. When we ordered to dessert we had to ask for cutlery twice. They dropped the dessert off and 10 minutes after it had been obvious they had no intentions of giving us cutlery. When we asked the first time, a person (who wasn’t our server) came back 5 minutes later and stated “Oh I forgot”. Then offered us a round of shots which never came. We weren’t upset about the shots not coming because at this point we wanted to leave. When we left, we paid in cash and headed out. The server chased us down the block, yelling, “HEY”. When we finally realized someone was speaking to us we stopped and turned around, she asked us if we paid. We said that we had and left it all in cash on the table. She stated “Oh you left it at the table. Okay.” It’s obvious she did not even check the table & decided to that chasing us down the block like we had dined and dashed was more appropriate. Overall, we are never going back to that restaurant.
Queso Fundido was perfect. Octopus with cauliflower and corn was spicy and so yum!
Crab enchiladas are fantastic. Fish tacos lacking flavor and presentation was meh-could use a bit more cabbage.
Mezcal cocktail too much pineapple but presentation was nice.
Gorgeous restaurant just needs a bit more work on service. Waited a super long time for check and then even longer to pay.
Yes. They were out of everything I ordered, but everything I ended up getting was terrific.
Love the restaurant, the food is good, fresh, clean and authentic. Best margaritas!
What kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't provide sour cream with a meal and charges extra when you ask for it? We were charged $2.00 for a tiny amount of sour cream. I ordered the tuna tartare taquitos appetizer as an entree and asked if it would be enough for a meal and the waiter said yes. While the tuna tartare tasted good, the "taquitos" included 4 tiny (about 2 inches wide, 1 inch tall) shells and I asked for more and they brought me tortilla chips instead. 2 drinks, 1 appetizer and 1 entree cost over $100 for tiny portions and just okay food. I loved the decor and the atmosphere and although I live 2 minutes away, I won't be back.
We love this place. We've gone here several times for special occasions. The drinks and food are good and the service is excellent. We will definitely continue to go here.
Service was really slow. Drinks and food were overpriced for what it is.
Great HH, good food but service can be a bit slow and lacking at times.
This place is one of the best kept secrets in Harlem right now. The brunch is excellent and very well done. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was practically empty compared to the many other after-church soul food restaurants in Harlem which are packed at this time. The view on a nice day - particularly on the balcony - is relaxing and the service is very attentive. I enjoy their chorizo and any of their egg dishes, and the cocktails are always top notch. Definitely recommend a visit. The only downside is many of the seats are stools without backs. This didn't work too well for a few of the folks in our group however the servers were very accommodating in getting them chairs with backs.
This cute and quaint restaurant offers a downtown feel to uptown. The authentic cuisine, hand crafted drinks, and dim lighting is great for meeting with friends, date night, or solo “me” time. All good things come with a price. The hefty bill might leave your pocket a bit light but small plate cuisine will fill you up.
The food was delicious and the service was great by Harlem standards. But for Mexican food, this place is way overpriced. If you're not on a budget and don't mind paying for overpriced tacos, this is the place for you, otherwise, there are plenty of other affordable options like La Chula in the city. But a perfect date night/friends/special gathering spot worth a try.
What a find this was! Was going to Apollo theatre and happened to pick this place that was nearby. The drinks and food were amazing. Service wasn't that great but we weren't in a rush.
La Diagonal is a very cute space with a nice vibe. I've been there before and had better experiences so I think they were just a bit off their game this past Sunday. It took a while for our drinks and guacamole to come even though it wasn't particularly crowded. The guacamole needed a little more sabor - salt and black or red pepper. I ordered a mezcal old fashioned which was too sweet. We both ordered appetizers and an entree and they were all brought at the same time. I ordered the ceviche mixto and short rib tacos. Because they all came at the same time the tacos were no longer hot by the time I got to them. As I said I've had better experiences at La Diagonal so I think this visit was an anomaly and I'll be back.
Super professional classy staff.
....and the food is even better.
Always a great experience!
My brothers and I were treating our dad for father’s day. We had a great time. The food was good but the drinks were great! The waiter was patient and attentive. There’s a nice light breeze as they have a patio with the doors open. I would definitely go back for a happy hour.
Great vibe! Harlem chic without pretense. The food and margaritas are so authentic, it tastes like it’s straight out of Mexico!
We love this place always, but most especially in the Spring, Summer, and Fall when we can sit for brunch outside with our dog and enjoy great food and fun conversation.
Made a reservation, but sat us at the counter, even though walk ins after got a table. Service slow and inattentive. Drinks good. Good ok.
Wish there was more menu options and bigger portion sizes.
La Diagonal probably didn’t mean to accept our reservation for 17 onCinco de Mayo. But they handled 8 adults and 9 kids like we were their ideal customers. Food was great as always. We’ll be back again. The food is great and staff very welcoming. And
The food is tasty but the prices were a bit inflated. On top of this we were largely ignored, having to flag down the bartender (we were at a table) if we had a request (like getting the coffee refill that was offered but never materialized or just getting the check -all of our plates had been cleared, why not check on our table? The place isn’t that big but the staff largely avoided eye contact.).
Very unique place situated on a corner. The food was good, service was great along with the ambiance.
drinks were well-mixed, consistent, creative and tasty. the food was good. the ambience is very nice. would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice time out in upper Manhattan. also- would highly recommend going to Sugar Hill a couple of blocks away for dessert!
Terrific place. Great margarita options.
ehh, not sure about the hype here. Oso in Hamilton Heights is 1000x better than here. They charge like $7 a taco and they are so tiny. Their chips taste stale
Drinks we average.
Ambiance was great, nestled on a diagonal section of the road.
Great service and food
Awesome vibe, great addition to the area. Good food. Has all the staples.
Amazing food, drinks, and experience as usual!
Love this place - very cozy and perfect for a relaxed dinner with your significant other or a small group. Amazing selection of Tequilas and Mezcals, and the food is incredible. Menu is a little limited, but everything we had was delicious. Will be back!
Limited menu, overpriced items, no chicken options or the option for insignificant menu modifications.
Place has gone down. The food was cold. Rice was hard and cold. Left most of the food on the plates. They never asked why.
Just took the plates and gave us the bill.
I have been coming here since it opened. It was great in the beginning but has become hit or miss type of place. Sometimes we go to try it out and its great only to go back and have it be below average. This Sunday was below average. The drinks were coming out very slow and we went to brunch to get our drink on. We were there 45 mins and only had 1 drink and were waiting for our second. We ordered guac only to have it some out in such a small amount it could serve 1 of the 5 of us. We ended up getting our check and going somewhere else.
If you like authentic Mexican and/or Mexican-inspired brunch dishes, this is the go-to place in Harlem. Service is excellent, drinks are excellent and their selection of tequilas is first rate. Try the Huevos Rancheros, the Chilaquiles or their take on Eggs Benedict.
Food was good, but our initial server got our order wrong before it was served) and then another more senior person came over to confirm our order. After correcting that second employee on our order, one of the main entrees still came out wrong. That incorrect entree was eventually replaced with the correct dish that we originally ordered but it was surprising for two different staff members to get our order wrong.
Love the food here, had the shrimp tacos small but perfect amount. Delicious!
This is a great restaurant in Harlem. Worth a trip if your near by. Service has been superb since opening and has not faltered once.
We started with the guacamole which was a good and a large portion size. We also each had the steak tacos, they were very filling. The restaurant was busy, but it was 7:00 on a Friday, so that’s to be expected. We will be back!
Birthday part. Had a group of 14 and they were so accommodating and did an awesome job with service and food. Highly recommend for your next group dinner!
Food was soooooooo delicious had the shrimp quesadillas and tacos. We will definitely go back. Hecho de Harlem was also a yummy drink.
