Restaurant X & Bully Boy Bar
Wonderful dining...beautiful ambiance ...great service. It was Restaurant week in the Hudson Valley and they have a fabulous menu with loads of great choices. From appetizer thru dessert...5*.
Food was good as always, but the service was TERRIBLE. We had an 8:15 reservation. We weren't seated until 9pm and didn't see our server until 9:15. We ordered a bottle of wine that took over 20 minutes to arrive. We saw our server only once during dinner service. Dessert took a half hour. Waiting for the check after we asked for it took another half hour and it was wrong twice before we finally got the right check and paid. Overall we were in the restaurant, mostly waiting around, from 8:15-11:30! There was a bad smell upon walking in that was like moldy air. The restrooms were a disgusting mess. The ceiling over the bar looked like it might cave in. Overall not the Restaurant X of olde.
With reservations had a long wait and overly crowded in waiting area. Sewer pumping truck near main entrance and smell by lobby. Restaurant needs some renovations as tables and chairs were very beaten up.
Food still delicious and our server was very good.
Food was very good. Many chaoices for restaurant week. Servce was terrible. Perseco was flat. Soup was cool; not hot enough. The table next to us was seated 20 minutes after we were seated, yet they finnished their meals ahead of us due to delays in our service.
It was Restaurant Week and usually the menu is very limited, but Restaurant X's menu had many choices for all 3 courses. My wife and I had specific limitations due to allergies and medical reasons, yet we had no problem picking out our dishes. And, every dish was simply delicious. Our waitress was very helpful, friendly and attentive. The ambiance was wonderful, especially sitting near the fireplace. This Restaurant is tops on our list for a great dining experience...and they never disappoint.
I always take a advantage of Restaurant Week on November & March and go to Restaurant X.
Love & enjoy dining at this restaurant :)
We enjoyed the Restaurant Week menu, both selecting different items. Our only complaint was that we ordered the delicious popovers, but needed to ask 3 times before they appeared midway thru the entree.
The food as usual was excellent. Table service was good. The problem we had was with valet parking. There was only two employees at valet parking and a very busy restaurant on a Friday night. They were very unorganized and when we asked for help from the manager he did nothing. We actually had to find our own cars and then and to top it off the valets begged for tips.
This was a very disappointing dining experience. The food is excellent but the service is lacking. We had to find the waitress on 3 occasions. We waited 15 minutes before the waitress appeared to take our cocktail order. At that time we also gave her our wine order, lunch selection and dessert/coffee order. When lunch appeared, we were half way through before I got up to find her for our wine. We finished lunch and then dessert was delivered. Again nearly finished with dessert, I had to find her again to get our coffee delivered. Finally, the bill was presented and returned to her with credit card. I then had to find her for the 3rd time to get the credit card and receipt back. Then she presented us with a different bill because there was a mistake on the first one. This turned to be a very stressful lunch. We will not go back to Restaurant X again.
We went for my birthday, delicious food, wonderful service, nice quiet, subdued ambiance. We come every year and intent to continue the tradition. Chef Peter Kelly takes the time to ask tables how their food is and thank them for coming, great experience all
The only thing that marred an otherwise enjoyable experience was the valet parking staff. After having been brought two cars that weren't ours, my husband took his keys and found the car himself. This has never happened before at this restaurant and it was a bit unsettling.
Outstanding menu, wonderful service & presentation. Always a hit, never a miss!
Absolutely perfect. Sat in the bar and ate by the crackling fire. Every course was scrumptious, service professional, wine selection outstanding with many rarely seen varieties and at a reasonable price. After finishing our meal we immediately booked another date for lunch.
Excellent service and food.
Delicious meal and ambiance!
The food was very good and the servers pleasant. The Burratta and the espresso mousse with donuts were especially yummy! An enjoyable dining experience.
Service was terrible. I was with a female friend and we do not drink. Assumption: crappy tip. Ignored the entire time we were there. Food was mediocre. Will not return.
I was seated next to puddle of water, the waiter kept dripping champagne on everything every time he poured it, the portions were incredibly tiny, desserts not served with appropriate utensils and then got my daughter's birthday wrong. Big let down, has gone downhill.
Everything was perfect. Wouldn't change one single thing of an exceptionally wonderful family dinner. Reminded us we would enjoy dining here more often.
Outstanding, as we have always come to expect from a Peter Kelly restaurant. Perfect with a roaring fire on a cool fall evening. Great service and the best steak ever!
The food is consistently excellent and the staff is very friendly and professional. If you are luck enough to get Phillipe your night will be magic!
The cheese plate presentation needs some work. The presenter forgot the names of some of the cheese.
Picked Restaurant X based on Open Table reviews as I don't know Rockland County. It was a great choice, food was excellent and will return. However, the service was not smooth; appeared chaotic and slower than I would have liked. I will say that the restaurant was full and staff may have simply been overwhelmed, but it was unnerving in a restaurant at this price point.
Amazing food! Everything else needs to be improved.
Lovely dining area, great menu and exquisite service
We had a great time and the food was fantastic. We celebrate my birthday at the restaurant
What a great time we had. Nice atmosphere-great bar area and a lot of engery throughout the restaurant. The staff was excellent as was the cocktails and food. Highly recommend!
Perfection as always
Food was fantastic. They were not very attentive to our table. The regulars next to us had a manager, head waiter, and two servers so that was a little disappointing. However, I’ve been here several times and love the food so hopefully I get the attention (maybe fill my water once) that comes with the amount of food and drinks I purchased.
Fish was undercooked. Service was very slow.
We come to X’s every couple months with a group for special occasions and everyone’s meals were perfect.
Everything about X is a pleasurable and delicious experience. The Beef Wellington is an exceptional choice that is rarely offered on restaurant menus. We will be returning to X frequently.
Celebrated my birthday - 2 couples
Food was delicious
Service a bit sloppy at times - waiter leaned across the table to put food on my plate and dripped while serving. All staff should serve next to the person not across the table during an elegant, expensive brunch
Awesome brunch and excellent seevice
Very good meal. Beef welington was done well. Service was attentive and responsive. We have eaten here several times.
Unfortunately, we went to X2O Friday evening and the food was less than satisfactory.
Gathering with friends — we loved the setting and the food — but were shocked by how poorly the business is maintained. Lights in the dining room flickered throughout the meal and it seemed this had been going on a long time — we worry there will be a fire — wall paint chipped badly throughout the dining room - a big picture window looking out to a beautiful view had a huge crack whole length - this too seemed to have been that way a long time — the menu suggests “high-end” and the food is brilliant! — but everything else going on is not in keeping with the suggestion of the “high end” menu. The servers are doing their best but we can see their embarrassment and lack of power to do anything.
We were there for the Thursday Dinner Special. Every course was so delicious and plentiful. We actually could not finish all our food. Can not wait to go again.
We traveled from Westchester to Rockland because Restaurant X and Bully Boy Pub was offering a whole chicken three-course dinner for $35; we had been to Xavier's X20 several times and were interested to see what Peter Kelly's other restaurant was like. We did not realize that the chicken dinner was being offered only in the bar area and so we were seated in the main restaurant first, but moving into the bar area was not a big problem. The squash soup was very good -- smooth and just sweet enough (but the croutons seemed a bit stale). The locally-sourced chicken was delicious, with its accompaniment of potatoes and vegetables (but we had to ask for a spoon to serve the veggies); there was enough left over to take home for another meal. The creme brulee was good, but not the best I have had - a bit too sweet, given that it was covered with a layer of crispy sugar. The coffee and cappuccino were excellent, but we did have to ask for sugar for the cappuccino. The Canadian chardonnay was good, but nowhere near what is available from the Hudson Valley or Long Island. I wanted a grappa to finish the meal, but all that was available were flavored grappas, chamomile being one of them. Overall the dinner cost about $134, which is excellent for the quality and quantity of the food and level of service, and worth the 2.5 hours of travel to get there.
A very enjoyable experience. We were celebrating two birthdays and we enjoyed every minute along with a wonderful meal.
We chose to try Restaurant X based on our prior experience at the Piermont location. We were not disappointed.
The free valet parking attendant was helpful and courteous. We arrived early but were quickly seated nonetheless. Our waiter was very helpful in suggesting choices since the menu is quite extensive.
My wife had a lobster and shrimp appetizer with a delicious sauce while I tried the chicken liver pate. Both were excellent. The warm, fresh rolls were wonderful with the pate.
For my entree, I chose the beef Wellington. The duxelles had a rich depth of flavor and the beef was perfectly cooked. My wife chose a mushroom risotto which, though tasty, lacked the intense truffle taste for which she hoped.
The ambiance in an old house was charming and quiet. The service was relaxed and never intrusive or hurried.
Overall, an outstanding experience.
I've been eating at this restaurant for many years, celebrated special occasions: my son's wedding luncheon, birthdays/anniversaries and business luncheons. After having not been there for 3 years, I was very disappointed and dismayed to see that no updates had been made to the interior decor. The carpeting was worn and frayed, the walls and doors were banged up. Some of my favorite dishes didn't taste as I remembered (the coconut shrimp, the mushroom ravioli). On a positive note, the service was excellent with a very attentive wait staff. They also brought out a special dessert to celebrate our anniversary. I like the multiple course concept for brunch but don't think I'll be returning again.
