Zia Rina's Cucina
Utilising farm fresh produce and classic techniques, Danny Natoli (ex Neptune Food & Wine) and Adrian Li (ex Saigon Sally) bring a vibrant energy to the space.
Rina's features a small and punchy wine list with southern Italian focus that will surely have you coming back for more.
An excellent imaginative Sicilian meal with matching wines and friendly and informative service.
Our first time at Zia Rina’s Cucina... food service everything was amazing. Thank you!!
Very good food, mostly authentic Italian but with some mod-Oz touches. Good service, with a very enthusiastic sommelier. Wine prices not outrageous.
Hard surfaces everywhere so the noise level got bothersome as the evening wore on.
Overall, good value and we will be back.
We absolutely love Zia Rina’s Cucina and were excited to dine there for the first time since they reopened. The food is delicious, we especially enjoyed the mussels, the staff are wonderful and it is a charming space to share a memorable meal. Highly recommend!
We thought Zia Rina's looked pretty good from the outset, so we decided to go ahead and have a dinner their with former colleagues visiting from Sydney. We were keen to impress. Zia Rina's exceeded all expectations: the high-quality, delicious food, the service, the knowledge of where the food and wine came from, and the look and feel of the place. We (including our guests) are definitely coming back! Grazie mille!
We were 5 couples in the back room and it was all ours!
A great space for groups of this size, easy for us to enjoy ourselves without being too loud for other diners.
Food was fantastic. Everyone was very happy with the set menu as it is just easier with a large group.
One our group is Gluten Free and this was so easily dealt with.
Substitutions were made when necessary.
Really really excellent restaurant.
We were so looking forward to catching up with friends on Saturday night in this small dining room. Had heard the food was great and it was delicious.
Unfortunately our experience and evening was spoiled because we were in the corner next to a table of seven or so 30 somethings who had no regard for those around them and it was almost impossible to chat with our friends.
Maybe during the week would be more pleasant.
Loved everything, the food, the wine, the service and the atmosphere
Simply magnificent. Service, food, wine was all outstanding.
what an intriguing restaurant! With a name line Zia (Aunty) Rinas you’d expect all of the standards, but nothing here is in anyway standard. Asian touches add subtle notes to several dishes. A simple aglio/olio pasta with Kanpot pepper. And the Italian dishes are superb and inventive. Carpaccio fig!! Lots of focus on seasonal fresh produce sourced from Mornington Peninsula. Great, very well informed service. I rate this amongst Melbourne’s best Italian restaurants. Go, go now.
Food was good but a lot a chilli in some dishes
The noice level was very loud. We were in the back looking at a brick wall and dirty old roof.
The waiters were very good but kitcken slow. Waited over 75 min for main.
Three friends catching up for an early dinner. There was a lovely buzz about the place with front of house staff and the chefs all talking about the food and wines for the night, Italian music playing in the background. Our meal was a wonderful mix of antipasti, homemade pastas and fresh salads and a great choice of wine by the glass poured by the knowledgeable sommelier. Great colours, tastes, textures and service. It was a hot night and the cantaloupe granita finished our meal beautifully. A very special place, we’ll be back!
Easily our favourite restaurant - great for special occasions and catch ups with friends.
Very interesting fusion of italian and asian cooking. The wine was fantastic.
Heard great reports about this place.. on arrival we were whisked through the cosy restaurant passed the kitchen to the back room to be seated gazing out a dirty window at the next door building, our expectations reduced rapidly. The real low light was the loud music. We asked twice if the music could be turned down as the four of us could not converse with each other at our table. Momentarily it was turned down but then up it went again, louder and louder. We were sitting in a small room with floor boards, two speakers pumping out loud music suited for a party, not a neighbourhood cafe that pretends to be Italian!
The food was reasonable but any enjoyment was drowned out by the music & we didn’t stay for dessert or coffee!
Returning customer - faultless!
A delightful evening, wonderful service and food. Will certainly return. Thank you
Outstanding food at a reasonable price. Couldn’t fault the service! We will return!
amazing food and service the tasting menu is amazing so so good can't wait to go back!
We let the chef select a progression of courses, incredible food, presentation and service.
Delicious food , friendly service ,the chef has a passion for making the most out of fresh produce and you can actually hear yourself talk..
Welcoming & friendly service. Relax ambience. Good pasta. Big bonus that it’s friendly to those with personal cellars with its BYO but $20 corkage seems to be at the higher end for comparable restaurants. Overall an enjoyable dining experience. Would recommend to friends.
Wonderful experience. Great food and attentive staff.
The food was amazing. We opted for the chef's selection and were not disappointed. Courses were not large but were rich and full of flavour.
I hadn't been here for years but had nice memories of the place and food.
I enjoyed the meal though I thought the portions a little miserly.
We had our wedding anniversary dinner here and enjoyed the great food and atmosphere. The waiters were very nice and experienced as well. It was a bit loud but it was ok.
Delightful playful dishes in an intimate atmosphere. The food speaks for itself! The wine list is beautifully curated and explained by their knowledgeable sommelier. The spaghettini was delicious, dory was yum and the panacotta was a refreshing and light dessert! My girlfriends and I had a great feast with awesome service. Recommend!
Zia Rina's was an amazing eating experience where it was all about the food. One of the best food experiences I have had in a long time
We are regulars at Rinas and we very much like it all
It was a lovely place, and the service and food were lovely at the time.. However my partner and i both got sick when we got home that night... and we ate the exact same food.
The food was thoughtful, and of good quality. The service was excellent. You were able to have a conversation the restaurant was not noisey. Gordonh 15th October2018
We paid $60 a head and let them make the selections. And the dishes just kept coming! For fine dining I thought it was excellent value.
Beautiful spread of antipasti, pumpkin arancini balls, vegetarian risotto, pork fennel sausage pasta, quail and exceptionally tasty cannolis for desert. Wine list had a terrific selection. The quail and fennel sausage pasta were my favourites. Can’t wait to go back!
We had such a wonderful time ! It’s quite loud so I recommend that those who don’t enjoy a loud and lively atmosphere perhaps not visit for dinner . . However if you enjoy great food and ambiance, this is a great place for dinner with friends/for a date !
great intimate atmosphere, lovely service, amazing food but the portions were pretty small considered the price
It's an Italian restaurant with a Japanese Asian twist on the food - I don't think these two cuisines should ever be mixed..........
We have dined here before but something has gone wrong in the kitchen.. spaghetti with crab chili and tomatoes had no tomato’s and the fish served was on a green slurry.
I don’t think the menu is working well and we had great hopes for this to be a great local .. but it needs to fit more the Italian style..
$26 for Nonna's Ravioli (ricotta) was over the top for a neighbourhood restaurant. It was an entree size, not main as I expected; five pieces of standard size ravioli (2-3 cm wide) so over $5 a piece. When I complained I was told that it was made with duck eggs and hand rolled, though this isn't mentioned on the menu. (I don't care if it was rolled in gold dust). I also complained my wine glass was removed after two glasses and I wasn't asked if I wanted a refill. Apology was insincere, and nothing was taken from the bill - in fact I was charged for 3 glasses of wine as I later noted. Its a shame as we live locally and have enjoyed the last few times we dined there.
Great food and service but noise level was unbearable
Loving anything Italian anyways..my friend had been wanting to take me here. Zia Rina is the cutest cucina. The authentic food did not disappoint..the ambience beautiful and the service outstanding without that stuffy feel. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was fabulous Italian food but my god their fresh ricotta cannolis for desert delizioso. Cant wait to visit and dine here again. Thank you Danny, Adrian for keeping this cutest cucina open and your fabulous staff .
Lovely food and good service but the front room was quite cold compared to the cosy warm back room, (we were sitting near a window) maybe it needed to be curtained for warmth. We will be back!
