Upon checking in for reservations we were a little taken back by the rude hostesses but we brushed it off, we were seated outside where it was cold because the restaurant ran out of propane for the heaters. In which case the manager seated us inside... at this point things just kept going downhill. Every server we encountered besides our actual waiter was rude and passive. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering (nothing was warm or fresh whatsoever). By the point the desert came which was a disappointment my husband couldn't get us out of there fast enough!
The menu at this restaurant has declined, and so has the execution of the plates. Interestingly I had a disappointing experience at Jaleo recently, so the same reasons--compromised menu, imperfect execution. Neither restaurant are as good as they used to be.
Wait staff were attentive, professional and friendly. Out door seating was a treat!
Too few staff for too many people. Could not get waiters’ attention to order
Great food! Great service! Highly recommend. They were accommodating of where we wanted to sit. Another great Jose Andres experience
Service was terrible today. Had to ask multiple times for necessary items to consume food, ask for water, etc. I appreciate not being rushed but this was painfully slow.
Zaytinya was an excellent choice. Ambience was nice and service was very good. The restaurant grew busier as the night went on. But we weren’t rushed at all. Have already recommended to a friend!
If I could give them 10/10 stars, I would. The food was delicious, very fresh. Our waiter made a few suggestions, we took his advice, and we were delighted. It was a very busy Saturday night and we sat inside, so it was a bit noisy. I’d highly recommend and will absolutely return again.
Excellent food-- over many years now of coming never disappoints!
We did this Chef Tasting menu. It was lovely. My fav was MUSHROOM KAPNISTÁ - dish of mushrooms and dates and cashews. I could eat it daily - the carmelization on the dates was bliss. My daughter adored the GARIDES ME ANITHO (a light shrimp dish). The Greek yogurt with apricots was the perfect ending to a delightful meal. The service was impeccable and the suggestions from our server were spot-on.
Met up w some friends that we hadn’t seen since Covid hit the food was fantastic and service was great too.
Friends recommended this restaurant and we are very glad that we listened. The food was very good. Portion sizes were satisfying. The waiter assisted us with his recommendations and he was spot on. If you have not had the bread at Zaytinya, you have not tasted heaven!
As always, the food was great, and the service was wonderful. I love the outdoor space. I look forward to visiting Zaytinya again.
The food was absolutely amazing. The cheese platter had some of the best cheese I’ve ever eaten.
One of the best restaurants anyplace for Mediterranean cuisine.
We have been to Zaytinya a few times and this was our second experience of stomach upset from dining there in all this time... We had ordered only vegetarian dishes, however, some of the dishes were almost cold by the time it reached our table. Not sure if they had been sitting in the kitchen for long because they were supposed to be cooked and served hot. Also, our server was not at all attentive. We had to keep looking for her to order food and drinks. Overall not a pleasant experience especially since both of us came down with stomach upset it's clear that it was from the food we had at this restaurant.
Great small Greek plates, nice outdoor seating setup.
I love, love, love Zatinya. Like most restaurants right now, they seem tight on wait staff, due to no fault of their own no doubt. The staff is super, but stretched. I love supporting José Andrés' restaurants, however, and will continue to do so. His food just sings, and he's a great humanitarian.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious.
The food is always delicious here and the bread is outstanding. Always a top choice when in DC.
Delicious lunch with flavorful food in a relaxing and attractive restaurant
I love this place. Great for vegetarians, and everything is delicious. We are inside though it was a beautiful day, and it was quiet and calm for lunch. A great choice if you are going to the Portrait Gallery.
I noticed that as a couple we were seated at a 4 person table in a far less romantic area than other couples but yet I reserved well before this evening's date, and was treated less.
Also the waitress overheard my wife and I complain, and decided to make it right at the last minute. Highly disappointed and the portions are very small but it is my mistake in choosing meals which indicated Mezze.
I know service is bad overall everywhere due to COVID and shortages so I still tipped well but definitely will never return and be ignored on my wife's birthday no less.
It should not have taken us complaining to each other to make things right.
very good food, I love having the small plates (why is OpenTable making me write a minimum of 50 characters? it's annoying)
Excellent shareable plates, lots of vegetarian friendly options. Prices are low for the veggie based dishes, animal protein servings are quite small (about 100 gr of octopus/ serving, priced at $18). Service was so so, probably due to the fact that our group arrived staggered and our server was quite impatient. Overall an ok dining experience.
We did the tasting menu and the food itself was absolutely outstanding. The hummus in particularly was perhaps one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, which is a bold statement to make about hummus, but I stand by it. The space itself also had some lovely ambiance to it while still being brightly lit enough that it was possible to see (which is a problem I’ve had at some other restaurants that get a little too carried away with the dim, atmospheric lighting). However, our server seemed like they might have been new or maybe just feeling a bit overwhelmed, which is completely understandable while we’re still going through a pandemic, but it did stand out enough that I felt it worth mentioning.
On vacation, craving Mediterranean, Zaytinya was the winner. The restaurant is big both indoor and outdoor seating. Service excellent, food excellent. My friend and I had Sunday night 7:00 reservations. We were greeted and seated. The restaurant was bustling with diners. Chouaib was our server, he was excellent, friendly and attentive.
After sitting, we were given the most amazing pita breads I've ever had with a dipping oil. We ordered cocktails while looking over the menu. When my friend and I travel and try new restaurants, we like to share so we get to taste as much as we can eat. Perfect place for this, we ordered Hommus (purée of chickpeas, garlic, tahini), Falafel (traditional crispy chickpea fritters, turmeric pickles, cherry tomato, tahini), Lamb Baharet (spiced rubbed lamb leg kebab, tabbouleh, charred tomatoes, tahini sauce) and Kofte Kebab
(grilled ground beef kebab spiced with marash pepper mint and oregano, smoked yogurt sauce, charred cucumber, herbs). All the dishes cam out fresh hot and tasting DELISH!
Atmosphere: open, large indoor and outdoor seating. Service: excellent. Food: excellent.
Really excellent service and wonderful food.
Zaytinya’s menu has a wide variety of options and we were very pleased with our choices. Everything that we tried was excellent with wonderful flavors of Greece and the Mediterranean.
Went here for a Sunday night birthday dinner. I have heard good things over the years and it lived up to all of the praise. Ambiance is great. An open and clean feel. Huge long bar. Service was great despite the crowd.
The place was packed with people. We did the chef's tasting menu. We had a selection of spreads, salad, vegetables, shrimp, salmon, chicken, lamb, and desserts. It is a lot of food and it covered many items off of them menu. Highly recommended if you want a broad sampling of many good menu options. A definite place I would return to.
We went to celebrate a birthday lunch, and were sorely disappointed with the overpriced chef’s tasting menu. We asked the waitress if two people could share, and she came back with the chef’s response that the food quantity was insufficient for two people. So we ordered two tasting menus, and were served single small plates of eleven items combined. The only items in a pair were small dessert cups of Greek yoghurt with apricots. Very small portions of meat and seafood even for a tasting menu. In essence the price ($130) of two chef’s tasting menu may have been satisfactory for one person. Very disappointing - don’t waste your time and money.
Our favorite restaurant in the DMV hands down!
Exceptional food and service, a great option for both vegetarians and meat eaters!
The food was outstanding, as always. We sat outside and had a terrific meal. I would note that our waiter had too many tables and would go long stretches between seeing us. It took 10 minutes for him to first arrive. And 15 for us to pay our bill. He was just busy helping others.
Seated outside on a cool evening but looking forward to the food we remembered. Not only was the menu very limited (several of our favorites were missing) but several of the dishes we ordered were disappointing. Excellent service.
Excellent! Party of four, ordered 5 small plates and a kebab platter. Great wines and Ouzo! Pricing not bad at all for the quality/quantity. Only "complaint", could have used a slightly larger table, a little crowded but servers were great with making sure to quickly clear.
Excellent everything. Flavors are just out of this world.
LOVE Zatinya, it’s always my go to restaurants when guests come to visit. Excellent service, unique concept, nice decor and ambience. The food is delicious and you can’t beat the free house made pita bread!
The meatballs are amazing!
The rain really seemed to throw the staff off, as there wasn’t enough seating even for people with reservations. As a result, the service left a lot to be desired.
We had a great meal and my date loved it! It was her first time at the restaurant. The food was perfect!
