The Winding Stair
Nice venue but very loud, tables were very small and unbalanced and kept wobbling, Starters felt limited but mains were really good especially the lamb & steak. Bread and Butter Pudding was amazing. Top notch selection of wine, tad on the expensive side when you include their mark up but still great selection.
Fantastic seafood starter- as good as it gets.
Main courses had variety and style. The desserts had interesting flavour and complimented the menu.
Wine is pricey but settled on a modest wine that went down well. Superb service with a bit of fun thrown in. 5 stars.
Lovely meal on Saturday night. Friendly staff. Chowder was very tasty and packed with fish and chorizo. The fish platter was huge! Lamb main also a very generous portion. Will be back
Amazing service, food, wine. We didn't feel rushed, we enjoyed the slow and friendly atmosphere.
The Winding Stair never fails expectations.
It's a place I bring friends and visitors, not as often as I would like, but always a good choice.
Thank you for the good food and vibes :-)
Excellent food - creative dishes made with great produce. Service was phenomenal - attentive but not intrusive. The only issue was the ambient noise in the room (from talking) - it was really loud.
Great food! A bit pricey but definitely would eat here again!
LOve this quirky little Irish Restaurant, in a great location right on the river. Food is always GOOD. Service is great. Have a good wine list and tasty specials
This is a lovely place with great ambiance, wonderful fresh food, and attentive service. It feels special without being stuffy. We will most definitely come again.
Very enjoyable dinner out, before going to a show.
Cuisine de qualité, service déplorable, prix excessifs et salle beaucoup trop brillante
Great restaurant. Both the service and the food was excellent! I would recommand it any day. I will be back.
Excellent overall, but noise levels need serious amelioration by some kind of sound deadening material. We both felt battered. Conversation very difficult.
The Winding Stair is a very cosy, atmospheric restaurant with a lovely view of the Liffey. Having said that when the room is full, which is nearly always, it can be noisy with conversation rebounding off the wooden floors. I had a tomato tartare starter and poached haddock as a main and both were excellent. I dont normally have a dessert but because I had a very busy day with very little to eat, I decided to give myself a carbohydrate kick with the bread and butter pudding which tasted very good but the portion size was excessive so only managed about half. There is a very good selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle. The service is efficient. Happy to return anytime!
Accommodated our request to add one person. Service was exceptional & wine knowledge was excellent. Food was divine & delicious.
1st time here, loved the relaxed feel of the place. The food was unreal and our server was brilliant new every detail of the food and wine . Can’t wait to go back
Amazing food great atmosphere
Staff were so friendly
Lovely food and great service. One of our favourites
Family dinner in a restaurant with special atmosphere, tasty food and nice views over Ha’penny bridge.
Absolutely lovely evening, delicious food and wine and excellent service!
Wonderful food and excellent service in a gorgeous location on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Perfect.
Warm welcome, great, well sourced food, delicious wine, friendly service. Never lets you down
Overpriced and a little tired. For the starters the crab butter was just taken out of the fridge, very cold and tasteless. Tomato tar tar was bland. The steak was over cooked and rubbery and my special of the night was also overcooked (bacon and cabbage) The wine was also not great, for a 44 euro bottle of white it tasted like gas station wine you’d get for tenner( and it was, I checked the price on Vivino and it was a 10 dollar bottle) Whatever magic this place might have had is certainly not there anymore.
Been many Before so tonight was a disappointment. Maybe an off night but at these prices should have been better
Nice restaurant with relaxed but efficient service. It wasn't full on the evening we were there but everyone was seated by the window so it was quite cramped. The people we sat beside were really very close and we could hear each others entire conversation. There was lots of space around the rest of the restaurant! We had the pre-theatre menu and tomato tartare starter was tasty. Bacon main course was ok. Mackerel was ok too.
Wonderful restaurant. Limited choices but everything is superb
It is à little too greasy, heavy... to much food ... not necessary.
Delightful place, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food.
The dinner was delicious but we were surprised by the price compared with the offer
Our dinner was outstanding - delicious, well balanced flavors and ingredients. Try the smoked halibut. The best halibut meal I've had. The halibut was smoked and cooked just right. If you like chocolate don't forget to consider their chocolate mousse with whip cream and strawberries. The strawberries were nothing like I can get in the US. The strawberries were so sweet and succulent I could have had a bowl of them with a spoonful of their in house whip cream.
We really enjoyed the food and the place is fantastic. Will be back again for sure :)
Loved it. Great position, overlooking the Ha’penny Bridge, though I would prefer if the tables were side on so that both people had a view, but I guess that may reduce the number of covers.
The service was very good, though my husband chose a’la carte and was not prompted to order veg so he just had fish, potatoes and sauce, essentially. I had the pre-theatre menu which was absolutely excellent. I had never eaten eel or cockles before and really enjoyed them - also the mackerel was by far the nicest I’ve ever had. The bread and butter pudding with whisky sauce had me considering whether I could get away with licking the plate. The set meal was excellent value; the a’la carte not so much. I have already recommended the Winding Stair to a friend and certainly hope to return myself.
Excellent food and great service
Nice small restaurant with good food! Could be recomended.
This is certainly one of the best tables in Dublin. The quality of their food is outstanding. From starters to deserts, I simply loved it all. There is a beautiful ambiance and if you get one of the tables by the windows (overlooking the river) your night can be memorable.
Top quality food, good wine, excellent value pre theatre menu and great service to top it all off
This restaurant is a little gem. A really original and interesting menu, excellent wine list and outstanding service. Would highly recommend anyone who wants a great meal in an interesting setting in Dublin.
Tasty food in a great location. We were lucky to have a window seat looking out at the river and the ha'penny bridge. The starters are a bit expensive, but that is my only complaint. Overall the bill came to 300 EUR for four starters, mains, 3 desserts, one bottle of wine and 4 glasses of dessert wine.
The service was very good - friendly and informative but not intrusive.
We were at 7 pm in the restaurant and the waiter gave us the Menu a la Carte and told us that was already late for the 2-3 courses menu that we wanted and saw in Internet (but if you leave till 8h15 you can have the menu!!! Is actually in the website).
It was very upsetting because the waiter wasn’t flexible at first, the food was very simple, served cold and expensive for the value. Just the Atmosphere was great, with the view to the Liffey river and temple Bar. It was a shame, especially because it was a special day for us.
It is very nice and everyone in Dublin should take the oportunity to have a dinner in the winding stair.
