The Winding Stair
Super views in an open room, staff were knowledgeable about the food and wine and friendly, good choices on the pre theatre menu but the a la carte was pricy. 12.5% service charge on party of 5 is excessive for a pre theatre meal. Bread and butter pudding was very stodgy
Wonderful, clever bistro type food, with some smart wine recommendations, all served by lovely waiting staff in a very lovely room.
The restaurant is in a lovely space but the food was just fine. Nothing special.
Delicious food in a beautiful setting. One member of the party has some serious allergies and the staff were incredibly helpful with accommodating them.
Pros: Cool space, good view if you can sit next to the table, excellent food, easy to get to.
Cons: Service was hit or miss (he did comp our drinks without us saying anything), portions were pretty tiny for cost, biggest one is that it was LOUD. We are in our late 20s our hearing is fine, but if I had a dollar for every time we had to say “what?” at each other I could have paid for dinner.
Best place in Dublin. Always a cheery welcome, great food and ambiance, easy to find. We visit everyvtime we can.
Nice restaurant, very helpful and nice waiters, happy overall
Had heard about this place from my Daughted. She treated us to a voucher for Xmas. We both had a main and dessert and a coffee. My husband had one non alcoholic beer and I had tap water. We went at 6.30 pm. Although my husband's steak was nice enough, it was badly presented. Nothing on the plate but piece of steak with chips (32euro). I had Cod (only 3 choices on set menu) which was nice, but the mash potato was cold. The desserts were ok. With a small tip, the bill was 100 euro. In my opinion, this was very expensive for the standard of food. Also the table kept rocking.
Fabulous food interesting, different and you didn't leave feeling hungry.
I’m normally eat in washerwoman and thats why I picked winding stairs . Washerwoman is a far superior restaurant. Friendly staff and better food variety . I asked for a bottle of wine I was told I would only have time for a glass it was myself and my friend there it was a special occasion I felt that was very rude .
Great food, amazing wine and friendly staff. Will definitely be back
Last minute booking but our request for window seat was accommodated .
Ambiance was excellent as well as staff. There was no rush to leave. Ie we were allowed to linger without any pressure.
We enjoyed the lively atmosphere at the Winding stair on a Saturday evening. The service was very efficient and friendly but couldn't give us much information when we asked about a Portuguese wine on the board and unfortunately the Spanish white wine I had choses was virtually tasteless. The food was very nice, fresh and well presented. I had two "specials" starters as both appealed to me, and no main course. Both, salmon and pigs head were delicious. The lamb my husband chose was very tasty too. The portions perfect, not huge, just right. We had no desert, good coffee!
The location is perfect, Ha'penny Bridge at night so pretty to look at.
I've been a few times. Brought my visitors there they loved it so much that they returned . Lovely atmosphere great staff. overall very pleasant experience.
Limited selection on early bird menu. A bottle of Craigies cider was 8.50 - very expensive. Too many tables with limited space between them. Good service and convenient place to have dinner in the city centre. Found it hard to recommend for dinner based on the limited early bird selection, cost of cider and limited space however food was good so will recommend.
Perfect. Great service and value for outstanding food.
Amazing little find with lovely lunch menu and great value. Wine list was impressive and staff were friendly. Food was delicious and nice open kitchen. Ambience was perhaps a little flat, but it was a Monday lunch time. Thank you for a special lunch for my partners 30th!
First time in Dublin & wanted to try serving Irish foods. We both had irish steaks & they are spot on, simple as yet tasty. Servise was attentive & efficient. Only thing was it was quite noisy so we had to speak loud to each other. Still enjoyed the whole experience.
Not the best of food to be honest. Disappointing. Staff very nice but they are not for eating.
Lovely place for dinner! Food is always great and service is very good!
The Winding Stair has longed been a favorite with its seasonal menu and good wine list. The views of the H'penny Bridge and the flickering Liffey gives this well-oiled establishment a warmth and magic thus time of year. I call by for meal every time I visit Dublin.
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Time and time again the food and service is great
I was there with four other friends three of which had never been there before and they were very impressed. Food was delicious, beautiful setting and the staff were really nice, efficient without being in your face. I'm looking forward to a return visit!
We had a fantastic evening at this restaurant. The wine selection is huge and we picked a lovely spanish wine that complemented our food choices really well.
The food was delicious and flavorful, unique tastes and ingredients were mixed together which created a culinary journey. The steak was amazing, but what really stood out to us was the venison dish we had. You have to try this out! :)
As a dessert we picked a cheese plate with irish local cheeses from farmers. Definitely worth the experience! It was so delicious!
The food was fab and the service was great, apart from one waiter who barely spoke to us even when asked a question. We did feel we were putting him out of his way by being there, but he was the exception all other staff were incredibly friendly and helpful
The menu is limited, but all the dishes we had were beautifully presented and the flavours were fantastic. The Chowder was one of the best we have had. The steak was cooked just right and the home made chips were gorgeous.
The staff we very friendly and efficient and nothing was a problem.
The only down side was we didn't get the side of vegetables we ordered.
We had a window seat which was lovely looking out across the Liffey.
A great place to celebrate a special event.
Lovely meal and excellent service. Great space. Casual and comfortable. Nice view of river and bridge.
Good food, but not particularly attentive service.
Mangiato tutto sommato bene e con un vasta scelta di vini
Lovely food in a cute, quaint restaurant/bookshop. Vegetarian options were few in number but extremely high quality, and the wait staff was very knowledgeable about the food. One of the best meals we had in Dublin!
Excellent food. Great atmosphere. Service was a little rushed but it was New Year’s Eve! Definitely one of the best in Dublin and worth a return visit.
Great food and service. Great place to sit and see the city!
Lovely find just opposite Temple Bar. Great service and fabulous food.
A stalwart favourite in Dublin. Always delicious fare to be had here, and the staff are professional, helpful and friendly, in a rather Irish, not overly cloying kind of way. The food also tends to showcase the best of Irish produce, especially the fish, with the comprehensive wine menu adding some international flavour to the experience. On this occasion, I opted for venison, which was scrumptious. The atmospher is also buzzy, but not oppressively so, and the location is ideal. I always make a point of recommending this place to foreign friends visiting Dublin, as I think it is a great exemplar of Dublin's vibrant restaurant scene. A mix of old and new, all executed with aplomb.
Visited The Winding Stairs on Christmad Eve with my sister and Mam. Atmosphere was warm and friendly. Staff were attentive, smiling and chatty. Food was absolutely fab. We had real carpaccio, crab and goats cheese pancetta for starters with trout for my self and my sister- my Mam had turkey. We fair licked the plates clean. Food was absolutely delicious! So tasty and full of flavour. Dessert was choc mouse cake whilst I had the best bread and butter pudding I have ever tasted. Highly recommended. I will definitely be going back.
Disappointed with our experience. Overpriced for average food. On the plus side, staff are very friendly
We had dinner here just before Christmas and it was truly lovely. The food was excellent, they had a great beer selection, and we had a fantastic view of the Hapenny Bridge from our table. The only downside was that our original server was cold and short with us - but he eventually disappeared and a lovely man (whose name I can't remember!) took over and was friendly and very accommodating. All in all, would definitely dine here again!
Food was delicious but the portions were too small for the price.
Loved our meal here - so festive! Lovely table by the window. Will be back
Haddock was beautiful, great service, all our group enjoyed their meals. Definitely recommend.
