This is my third time here. Food is always excellent. Delicious, creative, authentic. Service ranges from average to poor. The staff we had serve us are always nice and friendly but they need a bit more support & direction to be really consistent. Lots of potential, and I hope they nail the service soon as that will keep us coming back.
A lovely place for a delicious meal, wonderful service and a nice ambience.
A fairly frequent restaurant location for us, (a visit every couple of monts or so) must say things weren't running as smoothly last night. Service very slow and eratic, new overheard lighting has been Installed that kills the ambience of what's a nice room, and food not the usual excellent standard. Not our usual good experience, hopefully just due to the long weekend short staffing.
Been here multiple times. This time it was below par. $75 steak full of fat and not high quality
Entrees lacking in flavour.
Disappointing considering I brought two local friends in and it was underwhelming.
Food good, Staff very nice, but service was slow.
The experience was marred by the blonde waitress who seemed to think we were children in her school room that she need to bring to order. She passed food/drinks across diners without any comment - just an arm poked in front of a diner. Food and drink could have, as the brunette waitress did, pass it from the side of diners. One friend said the blonde waitress was abrupt another said she was lacking in customer service. The 'background music' was too loud for easy conversation and for the waitress to hear our requests.
We had a great 3 course lunch special for $40 which was incredible good value. Food was delicious.
A fantastic neighbourhood gem, the Welcome is authentic, with great bar and lovely little Italian restaurant. Four of us in the restaurant’s courtyard, it was just so pleasant with wonderful and perfect service.
Lovely food in a quiet atmosphere. Quick and attentive service.
We had a lovely lunch here, it was very quiet and the food was delicious.
Great meal. It has been some years since dining at the Welcome. Great to see high standards are still there
Great service, good food. Perfect Friday evening dinner. Recommended.
We have visited the Welcome Hotel restaurant many tomes over 20+ years so we have seen it change in style, service and menu. On this occasions we found the food below average and not up to the usual high standards we have experienced in the past. Staff and service was excellent as always.
What a great place for lunch and to linger afterwards.
Loved the food at The Welcome Hotel. The service was exceptional by both wait staff who looked after us. Danish waitress and Argentinian waiter. The food was sensational and the price was great.
So disappointing! Despite the helpful, smiling waiting staff the food was of very poor quality. We had the zucchini flowers - batter was like beer batter, fish and chip style thick and bad tasting. Pasta appeared to be more like packet pasta, stuck together and over cooked. We went for the main size on both our main dishes and the quantity was more entree size. It was in truth quite terrible and poor value for money, this used to be a great restaurant a few years ago and has potential to be good the atmosphere was quite dry and again, the area with some re styling could do more for the place. Given we travelled from Manly for our Saturday 'date' night we left very disappointed. I hope this feedback helps to improve the quality and bring it back to how it used to be.
This restaurant treats you like their family. The staff are so wonderful, knowledgable and attentive that you feel like you are at home while having a beautiful dinner prepared and served to you. What more could you ask for? Tick, tick...and tick!
My husband and I had a superb meal (fish and pasta) here with some really interesting wine (Italian whites and hard to find Tassie Pinot). Our Danish waitress was charming and helpful. We will be back!
We always love going to the Welcome for a meal and always look forward to going back. It is a small menu but always has something for everyone and a great kids menu. Great food and service and beautiful comfortable dining room.
Excellent food, great service but wines somewhat expensive.
Chose restaurant from Trip Advisor ratings and we were so impressed by standard of food and service. We prefer quiet places to eat and we were lucky on the night as it was very quiet. We will definitely return.
Great city-fringe option for a nice lunch, suitable for friends or business, without the crazy hustle and bustle of the city. Simple, well crafted menu, antipasto platter is generous!
Great food. Great service. Thoroughly enjoyable experience. It's a hidden gem. We will be back!
We had a pleasant evening, with amazing service from our knowledgable waiter.
We were celebrating two family birthdays and wanted to try something new.
Everyone loved it, the food was great, two of our family members had recently been in Italy and loved the arancini and the squid ink linguini with seafood.
The waitress and waiter were very good and we felt very cared for. We had our beautiful 17 month old grandson with us, a bit messy, the waiters were so accommodating.
We had a family and friends get together and the food was exceptional and had great taste, flavors were beautiful with every dish and the presentation was great.
We have been before and live out of town and always come back for a great experience each time.
Great food, wine, and service. Expert waitress. Thought the menu was a little limited in variety of mains.
Lovely small dining room set within a really nice pub. Menu isn't all that different from what you can get at the bar, but atmosphere is what you would dining in this area for. Will definitely be going back, staff were awesome
Outstanding. A wonderful experience all round. wine, food and ambience 5 stars. We will be back.
It was nice food and service is very friendly and comfortable.
But meal was bit salty.
Lovely food and great ambience. Staff were attentive without it being overkill. We'll definitely go back.
We love taking our friends from outside the area to your gastro pub
Stephanie and her husband really know their wines and creating a wonderful dinning experience.
How can you overcook Wagu to the point it is tough and has a hard crust? Waited over an hour for mains to arrive. NOT GOING BACK.
Positives: Service was professional and lovely all throughout. Separate dining room to the main pub was nice. Entree of clams and house main garlic bread lovely but the sauce was mostly all butter.
Negatives: Seated at a table in the line of the restaurant door closest to the register. Understandably, someone has to sit there but I would remove that table all together. It is in an awkward spot and not very private. Pasta main with pork sausage ragu had a very odd taste - tasted like a pasta out of a packet. Very disappointing choice. Main of the Wagyu loin strip came with 4 or 5 slices of the protein, not filling. Eton Mess for Dessert was underwhelming after reading the great reviews about it. There was hardly anything else to the dessert - no fresh fruit but the crunchy praline was great (blueberries stated on the menu was blueberry juice - not actual berries). Reflective of the pub itself - Craft beer only appeals to a limited crowd. Preferred to pop over to Darling St for pre-dinner drinks.
The food is completely delicious - I had an Italian seafood stew with squid ink aioli which was to die for. Wine list has excellent range of Italian and Aussie wines and the mark up is very reasonable. Staff charming and helpful.
Enjoyed every moment of our dining experience including the food, and wouldn't hesitate in recommending you! Will definitely be back!
PLeasant lunch place and quiet for conversation - food good - wine list imaginative with lots of Italian including Sardinian wines.
Always love Ajo
Mother's Day set lunch often bit limited but plenty of good company & service!
The food and service in the restaurant was amazing we have been a few times and each time we go back ithe good gets better and better, new menu items and some changes around but overall a great place for a quality meal.
The pub meals are also great in a different atmosphere.
Good location close to city and good wine and beer selections, a must try restaurant.🍴🍷🍾
