Wakamono serves authentic Japanese dishes. Enjoy the casual environment of the dining area and the variety of specialty bento boxes, ramen and sushi. It also offers the convenient facility of ordering online in addition to eating in. The food at Wakamono is inspired by its owner Mr. Kai Togami's travels throughout the decades after his fishing village was destroyed by a tsunami in 1963.
The menu offers both hot and cold starters, which include dishes like seared tuna with wasabi butter and steamed sea bass with black bean. One of the popular appetizers is the salmon tartare with avocado, crispy shallots, soy and lime. Wakamono also serves five types of ramen dishes, including vegan options. Try a range of bento, sushi and maki platters for a fulfilling main course. This restaurant offers specialty cocktails, sake and other libations to pair with meals.
V day dinner.
Ordered several different things but nothing was stand out, and more than a few things were disappointing. The ribeye was some of the toughest meat I've ever tried to chew in my life. You can get the same caliber of food for much less elsewhere in the neighborhood. Service and ambience also didn't measure up to pricing.
It’s really the best sushi in Lakeview. Generous on the sashimi 😀
Good food and great service in small neighborhood restaurant. The pork potstickers were delicious and the 2 seafood rolls were very good. Biggest downside is the noise level.
Perfect food, perfect service, best-lit bar in town attached with fabulous cocktails and decor. The quality has only gotten better with time at this Boystown mainstay.
This place was incredible - the pork gyoza was amazing and the rolls were delicious. Will definitely be back!
Went here for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. We were greeted right when walking in and had an amazing dinning experience. The staff was attentive and helpful in choosing what to order.
This place is our go-to sushi. Delivery and dine-in always amazing quality and service. When you dine in, the ambiance is amazing. Our out of town guests always ask to come back!
Amazing sushi!! A neighborhood gem!!!
I've walked by at least 100 times and finally got a group together to go. The edamame was the best I've ever had, the sushi was solid, and the cocktails were pretty good! I asked for our party to be sat at a table with chairs instead of stools, but we were told the other table was reserved. I sat there for the whole meal looking at an empty table longing for back support lol. We also had a group of 5 and were charged a service fee.
Excellent food and service as always. My favorite local sushi place for years. Will keep coming back.
Made reservation for one since I was visiting from out of town. Got to the restaurant, and was told I needed to sit at the bar, which directly faces the chefs making food and foot and a half away. I asked for a table since I had a reservation, and there were 7 open two top tables. They refused saying they were full. Two couples came in after without reservations and immediately seated. The food was good, but sharing the bar with the chef, hostess and waitstaff was a lot, especially since there were 5-7 open two tops the entire time I was there. Won’t be coming back that treats solo diners so poorly.
I love coming to Wakamono. The food is amazing and the service is almost always very good. My only complain would be the noise level, very very noisy.
We came here in hopes of finding a new dependable sushi restaurant in the area and ended up having a wonderful meal. Great decor and setting. Definitely a date hot-spot. The sushi came out pretty fast and was definitely fresh. A new fav!
Nice atmosphere, ok food. Not exceptional, too much sauce in the rolls and ok (not amazing) fish quality.
I live in the neighborhood and frequent Wakamono often. Love the ambiance and the Happy Hour specials. I miss the small soybean dish with sesame seeds. This was a staple for Wakamono, and separated them from all the other sushi places. BRING IT BACK. I know some people don't like it and the servers have to throw them away, but just add to your menu and say "upon request." Belle was very accomodating and friendly and very helpful. The sushi was fresh and tasty. Do not get rid of any more small touches (cucumber slices in water, hot towel for hands, etc.). Will always be a my go to place for sushi.
Wakamono is, hands down, one of the best restaurants in Lakeview. The sushi is great, the appetizers are incredible, and the drinks are strong and tasty.
We really like the sushi chefs here but the waitresses are terrible. They act very stuck up and they are very difficult to understand. They also marked me as a no-show for my reservation when we were definitely there.
Had a watermelon martini that was very good, fresh watermelon, not just flavored vodka. The sushi here is always excellent.
Great place to celebrate a special occasion. Amazing cocktails and great rolls!
Based on this experience I would not recommend it. I have been here a number of times and that is why I returned with friends, but the service and the quality of the rolls fell short.
We love eating here. They never disappoint. Service was great and we had an enjoyable evening. Only thing missing (it's been a wile since we've been here since moving to Oak Park a few years ago) was the naked bathroom art in the bar. We will be back!
Great green tea martini! Sushi is always delicious!
Table by door is disrupting and cold
Beautiful & delicious selections & attentive service - nice atmosphere - thank you
We've loved Wakamono for over 15 years but haven't been recently because we're busy parents. Just went last Saturday night. Same as we remember, except the food was even better! Wonderful ambiance.
It was great! Very cute place and great sushi.
2nd time at Wakamono. Had a nice time, shared 3 sushi rolls and enjoyed myself.
Great service and good. This was my first time there. I’ll definately be back.
My problem with this place is that I arrived on time for a reservation I made through this website, and we were seated 34 minutes late, which made the whole experience less than joyful. It seemed to be the norm, and nobody seemed either worried or apologetic about it.
The food is good, but quite overpriced. Frankly, I am not sure I will return to this restaurant after this experience.
We have dined here several times and always enjoy Wakamono - particularly the Sushi! I only mark it down 1 star due to inconsistent service. The table service and attention to the customer varies significantly on each visit and there does not seem to be a single server assigned to each table.
With that said, this is the place where my wife learned to enjoy Sushi! I'm a picky Sushi eater and find the quality here to be excellent. She loves the 3 Headed Godzilla Roll and also enjoyed the Mexican roll while I think the Otoro, Sake and Unagi are excellent.
Amazing food and great service. One of our favorite places in Chicago. Their happy hour is great - $5 crafted cocktails!
Great place for sushi amd next door cocktail bar, across from equally fun Ping Pong for chinese.
I've been coming here every month or two since Wakamono opened and it had usually been a pretty darned good sushi place, centrally located, nicely designed room, with tasty sushi.
Over the last year or so, the quality of the food and the presentation has been moving consistently lower, to the point where we couldn't finish our meal last Saturday night – the fish and the roe were very clearly not fresh tasting; the presentation, below bargain basement.
I hope that this restaurant can pull itself out of the nosedive it is so clearly in and can regain my trust and business.
Great food and ambiance! Would definitely go back again.
The place is amazing and the food was delicious. The servers were really nice :)
Great atmosphere. Fresh and tasty sushi. Good service. Nothing to complain about :-)
Delicious cocktails and we will go back to hang in the beautiful bar area
really great sushi, smallish place, the bar makes great drinks too.
amazing food amazing service
