Here at Hellenic Republic, we work hard to ensure your visit is a unique and memorable experience.
When it comes to Greek cuisine, our philosophy is to keep things simple. We source the best fresh and flavoursome produce from Greece and Melbourne to create authentic recipes in a clean, modern style.
To ensure you get to sample the best our menu has to offer, we recommend our sharing group menus - the Trapezi or Athenian. Our chefs prepare a selection of the finest dishes on our menu for you to share with your loved ones. It’s the only way to enjoy a taste of authentic Greek in Melbourne.
Hellenic Republic Kew is the second addition to the Hellenic family, open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Busy and noisy, to be expected on Fathers Day though. Doubled up on salad type and delivered the wrong meal. Took a while for next course. Buy Tasmanian scallops, they’re nicer .
Father’s Day! For six of us. Was good. Service was outstanding but as far as value for money the food came up a little short.
Overall a good experience.
WE LOVE THE FOOD AT HELLENIC KEW. WE GO THERE OFTEN AND ARE NEVER DISAPPOINTED.
Overall good experience and food was also good. The service staff was courteous and explained well about the food. I think cushioned seats would have been much better instead of wooden ones.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Hellenic Republic Kew.
Highlights were the saganaki, scallops, shoulder lamb, rolled pork, iceberg salad and dressing and pumpkin.
We would like to return and sample the dessert menu!
Portion sizes were large and enough to bring extras home which we enjoyed the next day.
We had excellent service from the staff.
Compliments to the Chef/s!!!
Great food, great service. Only bad point is that it does get very noisy.
Not how it was last time we went 2 years ago , changed the food too much from the original Greek cusinine was not happy at all for the price either . Won’t be returning
We had the vegan banquet, everything had large amounts of vinegar and oil. There wasn't enough contrast in textures and flavours in the different dishes and some herbs would have been nice. The confit leak tart was one of my favourite dishes, but the pastry was although thin, so hard that I was worried about breaking my plate cutting through it. Dessert was perfectly fine, if very rich. I'm not so keen on mastic flavour and it had mastic icecream at the bottom of the cup. All in all pretty average food, @ $70 per person with one glass of wine.
Good Greek bistro but nothing more. Cold interior, slow service, they even forgot an entree dish. $10 for three pieces of Pita seems a bit much even if the overall price is fine.
It is a far cry from the Hellenic Republic of Brunswick I remember and then to have seating times in a bistro seems a bit too much.
I would not go back but can’t say it was horrible. Just loads of room for improvement
We went there last about a year ago and find that the menu has changed somewhat. There is less choice now but what is on offer is still good. We went for the lunch special and added a few more items just because. Food was excelland and the service friendly. We ordered dessert from the ala carte menu and was not disappointed. An excellent place for lunch.
Service was polite but low quality in that it was slow, poorly ordered and forgetful. Food was also forgetful, not remotely 'tasty and definitely well below any sense of value for money.
Good food. The vegan night on Tuesday meant a limited menu for non-vegans like us.
Good restaurant. We went on the Vegan night as some family members are vegan.
Not impressed with the ‘vegan’ dishes
Our meals were given to a different table. Whilst the issue was resolved and as a result ran out of grilled octopus. I have been there before and know that they are capable of better than experienced last night. Good just not great!
Great food, Great Staff, great price just great great great
We were disappointed with the new menu at this restaurant, the food was not what it looked like on social media the pumpkin was tiny pieces with hardly any toppings the pita bread was 3 pieces for $10! We were surprising out mum and to spend $120 on food and not be happy is a shame. I would like to give another chance but unsure.
Nothing fancy. Can get better Greek food elsewhere. Expensive and small portions. Not worth it.
Always an enjoyable experience at the Kew venue ... friendly knowledgeable service , although only the let down was the removal of " Feta Chips " from the menu .. being replaced by Kipplers .... not the same
The service was very very good, the waiter was very accommodating with recommendations and altering the menu to suit the needs of one of the patrons with us, which made the dining experience very enjoyable. The waiter introduced himself and continually checked in on our table and ensuring all needs taken care of. However, the food was a let down and disappointing. Very high quality food but the banquet we ordered was not worth the money, very small portions and not the best dishes. Better value for money at a high end restaurant. Although the menu was altered for dietary requirements the portions were very even smaller for this and one dish was sardines on a plate... very disappointing. Have tried other restaurants of George Calombaris and much prefer Gazi etc.
I have always loved Hellenic Republic but was very disappointed dining there this time. They had changed the menu and the food choice and quantity was lacking. For the cost of the banquet you dont get much food. I would suggest ordering off the menu. Not sure that i would dine there again.
New menu = less food for more money. $300 for a family of four. A rip off. Very loud music - creating a frantic pace for all. Won’t return.
Loved our lunch soooooo delicious, we were going to take the remainder home but there was nothing left!!!!!!!!!
Booking Service Sub Standard: Initial experience with phone booking service not good - person who answered call could not take booking and asked if she could call back in 10 minutes. She did not. So I booked on line.
On Arrival: Met by anxious and stressed waiter. Room did not appear busy.
Food: initial reaction to menu was it was very very limited and accordingly was not commensurate with pricing. We liked to tapas style however meat dishes appeared as broiled with little charcoal flavor and very expensive compared to traditional greek styled restaurants. Of particular note was a lack of fish dishes
Service: Service was not commensurate with pricing, very inexperienced and not able to support the proposed offering.
Ambiance: very noisy, styling does little to deflect noise levels to enable proper conversations.
Conclusion: Like the tapas idea, limited pricing menu, offering of trendy greek offering not achieved, retrain wait staff.
It was a bit cold in the restaurant !!
We have been many times before and really enjoyed the food however we went last night and the whole menu had changed which was very disappointing, food was average for what you pay and i find it hard to believe they took the tzatziki off the menu at a greek restaurant!
Over the years we have always enjoyed the Hellenic Republic at Kew, especially the food , however, on this visit there were only 4 main dishes : Lamb Shoulder ( too much for 2 people to eat ) , Chicken on the spit, Cypriot sausages and Seared Tuna .
The very limited menu , as above, was disappointing . The ladies at next table were also disappointed with the menu.
I spoke to the staff about the limited menu and was told that there weren't any specials to choose from.
The extra $25 for the seafood option on the banquets is not value for money. One scallop each !!
We have been here a handful of times, and this time the menu had changed. As Kew transforms, they have decided to reflect and adapt to that, and highlight their restaurant's identity, and it paid off. I have to say it was insanely good. I would eat the scallops and the anchovy toast every day if I could. They just know what they're doing here.
I was very disappointed in our evening after visiting on 2 previous occasions which were wonderful. It was way too loud to conduct a comfortable conversation. It was a little cold in the room and, while entrees were very good the moussaka was bland and tasteless and the grilled chicken too dry. Service was excellent and the renovations look great.
Fabulous service and wonderful food. Perfect evening thank you.
Were not prepared for a vegan guest even though it was specifically requested at the time of booking.
Great food and fun. Lamb and saganaki was excellent woth great service
Levi was a fantastic waiter and the food was delicious and we even got to see George on that particular night!
All good but the waitress was a bit too attentive . Food was amazing and I was served quickly
ThankYOU for an amazing evening! ThankYOU for being so accomodating! We loved everything especially the food.
Greek food with a modern and international twist! The menu was quite pricey, though I would return for the banquet next time. Taramasalata was exceptional! Thank you for having us. All the best in future success.
Whilst food was of a good standard, we were told that certain selections were unavailable. After speaking to management, this somehow miraculously changed - poor look. I spent over $700 at the restaurant celebrating a birthday, including a $200 bottle of Champagne, a $135 Pinot and a $90 Chardonnay. The restaurant kindly presented a birthday candle positioned on a small "cake" about the size of a coin. This was an embarrassing look! The final straw was when the bill arrived and I was asked how I would settling. I waived my credit card and the bill disappeared and returned with an extra surcharge added......hopeless and greedy!!
All the food is cooked correctly, nothing over or undercooked, and beautifully balanced and presented. Everyone, even the kids, devoured their meal. It is a little loud inside, the room bounced sound around. We will be back.
Would definitely go again, food was incredible but it was absolutely sweltering inside. The lighting and ambience is lovely but they only have air con by the kitchen and everywhere else was hot.. I don't think they use LED lights (beautiful lighting) and that's probably why the place heats up so bad.
Amazing food!! We ordered one of the banquets, but due to dietary restrictions they were able to come up with alternatives for a couple of the dishes. The service was fabulous. We were looked after by Tom, our waiter, who was an absolute delight and very personable.
Have already recommended to friends, who are looking forward to it!!
