Came for my birthday and to watch football with my family.. food is nice and good value for money, tethered was a party of 8 if us I prebooked the table. The only thing I would say it was a little to close to the bar and we kept getting bang whilst we was eating due to people stood round the bar and people trying to get past.. other than that it was a good night, we come regularly for a drink and food.
Was a little disappointed, booked a table to celebrate my birthday with my family, thought we were having carvery, on arrival the carvery was no were to be seen,we could have a roast already plated up,with a choice of starters from the chefs table, but never got to choose a dessert because they had all gone, plus because the restaurant is now part of the bar the noise level was unbearable because it was full of football fans watching the very large TVs, it's such a shame that the bar and restaurant aren't separate areas.....
Sorry to say we were disappointed
Website does not say carvery is only on at 12 and 3pm
Seating is very squashed. Noise level is so bad
And then both diners get served 4 burnt burgers
Gone downhill so much!!!!
Reserving judgement as we understand that our visit coincided with the last fixed price Sunday Roast. We had to wait some considerable time for someone to come and carve the meat and there seemed to be less options available than on our previous visits. We do not live locally and only use The Village when staying with family in Bury.
Food was not fresh and was over cooked and cold. Service was shoddy and manager misinformed us of options. Over priced
I booked a table for Sunday lunch for 5.00pm via your website but it seems that it finishes as 3.00pm, the food that they had left was all dried up and left from 3.00pm
I also requested via your website that we needed an easy access table for an 88 year old lady, this was not paid attention to we must have been given a table at the furthest point in a very large crowded restaurant
They didn’t have the share Sunday even though it was stated on the menu
Food wasn’t great but ok, it was very noisy in the bar which is connected to the restaurant which made my little girl upset being sat next to drunk people, 1 of the waitresses we had just didn’t want to help and made everything awkward from the minute of arriving (Holly). Drinks were good and the other waiters and waitresses were lovely and very helpful
Soup was of a poor quality, Sunday carvery was of poor quality also, the gravy was like water and the meat was fatty. The overall taste was musky this was even the lettuce and the brownie it was a strange experience
Lovely staff good explanation of what’s on offer always enjoy it at the village
The chairs were back to back with other tables, we were constantly bumped in the back by waiters trying to maouver through with dishes and drinks. The food looked better in the pictures. The hotel's company policy is to 'not let food off the premises', so if you didn't finish, tough look.
It's probably a great atmosphere for football or rugby matches etc, but not to dine.
Loved it,everything was delicious, told all my friends about it,amazing value for money, loads of choice, all fresh hot and lovely...cant wait to return..
Usually the Village hotels we’ve stayed in have a nice traditional restaurant but this hotel only had a pub style restaurant which was very noisy and quite small to fit our baby’s high chair around the table.
Staff were lovely and food was good, although the burgers were slightly over cooked.
It was ok for hotel food, I had the calamari and prawns starter which was nice pub grub followed by the Ceaser salad which was so drowned in dressing it was almost inedible. The croutons served with it were so stale they were inedible. I left the dish and when the server cleared the table she asked if there was a problem and she said she’d tell the kitchen. I can only assume the kitchen weren’t very interested since nothing then happened!
Lovely food, helpful friendly staff.
Would definitely return and recommend to others
Worth every penny definitely will going again best carvery in the area
Food & service was great shame about the football match that was on which meant the bar was very busy and loud not what I was expecting for my Sunday lunch.
Food was good, however putting the bar & restaurant together is a bad move! Now more like a sports bar, with loud rowdy people, so no where to enjoy a quiet meal for two. Really disappointed
Had a really lovely meal although it was difficult finding someone to ask where our table was
We dined in the restaurant, which didn't feel like a restaurant at all. It felt like we were in the middle of a football match, all tv screens showing football and drunken people sat at the bar within the restaurant area. No privacy whatsoever. Definately not for couples or anybody who hates football. To sum up, overpriced food within a terrible atmosphere in a pub environment. We will not be coming back. Very disappointing indeed.
We thought the restaurant was was a grill room well no it’s a sports bar very noisy young people watching football ,no it was not for us
Not for the Sunday carvery I wouldn’t ! Starters and deserts where fine but the main course was horrendous. Meats didn’t taste right, mash am sure was instant smash and tasted nothing like the real thing, sprouts rock hard, roast potatoes looked good but tasted the opposite.
Food very bland.
Carvery meat very dry and over cooked.
Soup and starter table lovely
Carvery - mash potato and roasts weren’t great and gravy too watery
Hot deserts lacked taste but the desert table was fab
Went for a date night, started well with the starters which were enjoyable ,but then went downhill.Steak had a large piece of fat/grizzle running down it chips burnt couldn't even say they were well done ,soggy dripping with fat outside and mush inside. Not worth the money paid for it.Maybe a quarter of the money paid but not much more.Next time will pay a bit extra and go to Nutters.
Food was nice. Menu a little limited but enjoyed what we ordered. Staff excellent and attentive. Lovely evening.
Great food good atmosphere and good service. I would highly recommend.
Experience was very pleasant from start to finish. Good quality food and very polite, helpful staff
I phoned the restaurant first thing in the morning on the day I was staying overnight. I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone after being transferred by reception, so I went online to book a table .
After the second attempt I receieved confirmation and felt happy.
The waiter took our our drinks and food order and thought the place was nice, suuroundings was nicely decorated and the staff was friendly.
However, we waited about 50 minutes for our main course. I did ask a waitress to see if our dinner was on the way, but she didn't get back to us.
The restaurant was less than half full so we were naturally wondering what the delay was.
I found my chicken skewer was tough and had to leave some of it , but didnt complain as I didnt want to wait any longer.
The vegatable skewer was very nice.
We had pineapple crumble and cream for dessert and that was really delicious, and the coffee was nice too.
We come here regularly at least once a month as family of 15 and usually really enjoy it however on this occasion wasn’t up to standard the soup on offer was horrible beef was tough roast potatoes were over cooked mash was sticky and the gravey wasn’t nice usually great value for money this occasion we wouldn’t call again will look somewhere else
Was ok for a carvery, roast spuds were very dry and white in colour and not very nice.
We booked for 3 adults and 2 kids for Sunday Carvery. We were one of 3 or 4 tables in the whole restaurant so it was a lot quieter than usual however service was very poor. We had to clear our own starter plates so we could get on with the main however when we got to the carvery for the main course the dinner plates they expected is to use were very dirty and clearly a risk to food hygiene. At first they just kept removing the plate from the top and wiping it but after it became clear that each one had a mixture of dirty water and stuck on bits of old food from their previous use I asked them to bring out clean ones - which they did but then continued to wipe the clean plates with the same cloth!
After we had finished our main course we waited 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared and when this didn't happen we moved them ourselves again so we could continue with desert - bare in mind again how quiet the restaurant was! (at this point we complained)
When we complained we were given the children's meals complimentary however considering that every time we have been this year their meals have been free as part of the deal it didn't feel like much of a gesture.
We have eaten here at least 6 times this year but have decided never again.
perfect , did have a bad experience ages ago but it's all forgot about and now back in love
Great value for price good service clean not overcrowded
Amazing our new favourite place, great service, lovely surroundings, great food, unbeatable value.
Lovely meal, shame about some people that was in the restaurant,
Saturday evening booking; only three other tables occupied in what is a very large restaurant. No atmosphere. Service was satisfactory but nothing special. Ordered breads, starters and mains. Breads came with the starters rather than before. Staff busied themselves changing empty table settings from dinner to breakfast which was very irritating. Food was ok but unexceptional and overpriced for what it was. Wouldn't recommend.
Been to Village hotel for Carvery many times now Both Bury and Ashton and almost always come away satisfied .Cant understand though why beef is so rare . Again this visit i asked for well done and chef cut from opposite end and far from being well done Blood was oozing out .It must be a policy to cook meat very rare as on my many visits beef has been undercooked .I do also avoid the sprouts as they are almost inedible because they are so undercooked .These problems stop me going every sunday i now go just for a change opting to go elsewhere for my twice weekly restaurant visit.
Very good. Just a long wait for food especially between main and sweet.
