DC Winter Restaurant week menu has outstanding. The service was wonderful with the staff ensuring the drinks and meal was out and that we didn't need anything else. The Calamari was a great size for two to snack on and prepares you for the salmon. Given the amount of food you'll have, this is the perfect size. Lastly, the tiramisu was lovely. I'll come back to try the pizza soon.
Great place. Great atmosphere. Great service. Would give 6 stars if I could.
Made the reservation for a NYE meal based on the 5-course offering… then the menu changed two weeks prior with no notification or choice to change. The venue was nice but the service was barely making it; the sever had negative comments about the choices we made for dinner and the GM was not shy about all of the issues seemingly boiling under the surface. Prime rib gnocchi? Nope, just glue potato and butchered meat with chewy, inedible fat. Whole “experience” was nothing more than a rip off and Via Sophia will not be a place I go anytime in the future. GM knew it wasn’t going to go well and made the decision to send out undercooked, underprepared food regardless. 0/5 stars.
The service was terrible and the food was mediocre.
Went to celebrate NYE for dinner. Service was horrible, It may have honesty been our server’s first day on the job. The manager on duty was really polite and had a great sense of humor! Soup was cold and drinks were subpar. Definitely won’t come back here again. There are so many other restaurants in the city with better service and much better food.
I came here for NYE on 12/31/21 specifically for their pasta! They were only offering their pre fixe menu with no option to order anything else. This place from what I’ve hear is known for their Italian cuisine and so I was disappointed when presented with a menu that had no pasta options at al. I came here in the summer and had such a great time— the service, ambiance and outdoor patio, not to mention the pasta with clams were swamping! That’s the reason I came back and booked a reservation for my NYE plans. Wasn’t able to view what the pre-fixe menu offered when booking through OpenTable… that was not helpful. I ended up leaving starving for the portion/ food offered was not what I would have normally eaten from a restaurant like this. I figure it was easier to only offer the same menu to all customers but I would have gladly chosen another restaurant if I had known this before I was seated.
Over price food horrible soup cold service horrible our waiter saw my water glass empty never refilled no variation for a set manure and Italian restauran an had no pasta in the special menu only prime rib or salmon will never go back or Recomende to any one
Vibe was great service amazing.
I hate to say this, but the food was awful. I had been there once before and it was amazing, so decided to go there for NYE’s. I felt so bad for convincing my friends to pay the $60/person for the 3 course meal (that they changed last minute from a 5-course and did not notify me). It was just all around not good and I’m so puzzled because it had been delicious prior times. My entire group was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for any special occasions as the quality was so different i wouldn’t trust it. I will say- the staff were very kind.
The food was beyond delicious but the pricing for the portion size was a bit dear. The hosts and servers were friendly and attentive. The cleanliness inspired confidence. If you would like to eat food that is prepared well and delivers on taste, I recommend trying it.
Great service and the food was delicious!
Great quality food, reasonable portions and nice atmosphere.
Service and food were amazing. My new go to restaurant in DC. Service was professional and unobtrusive. The wine list was also had some great values on it, and they even had a few Club Tresor Champagne options.
Thank you for the great review. We look forward to serving you again in the future.
Very good chewable pasta, creative chicken marsala, outstanding black cod, and the best tiramisu I have ever tasted. And the pizzas passing by our table looked luscious.
Good and service was very good. Patio experience was quite enjoyable and empty given mask protocols.
Food portions smaller than expected entrees not that flavorful
Excellent food and great environment. Best calamari ever.
Great service very traditional tasting Italian food. Beautiful restaurant
Absolutely incredible!! If you want a happy wife and a swanky date night, go here.
This is the first time I have been to this restaurant and certainly not the last. The decor is very modern and clean and the food is yummy and not overwhelming. Perfect healthy portions.
Squash soup was outstanding!
Via Sophia was okay. We were not impressed. I have to admit this may have been the first time I ate at an Italian themed restaurant and there was no bread on the table.
Very disappointed with the pizza. My order had to be sent back because it was heavily burned/charred. When a replacement came out, it was borderline with only a few charred spots. However the base was tough/chewy as if underdone or, perhaps, the dough wasn’t allowed to rise properly when prepared. For a place that features pizza and pasta at the center of its menu and charges over $20 for a relatively small pizza, this is not acceptable. Only reason for the 2 star food rating (and not lower) is that the appetizers were rather good. Service and ambiance was also good. But, given the excellent competing choices for Italian dining in the DC area, I doubt whether I would return.
The food was fabulous and just the right amount of food. It left us feeling full but not stuffed. The different combinations of flavors and textures left us drooling. The service was incredible, our server was on top of it and so knowledgable about the food and menu. My mom is gluten free and they were more than happy to accommodate her. The wine was incredible, the desserts were divine, and the dinner was worth coming back. It was expensive but totally worth every penny and not the most expensive in the city. I will be coming back.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your meals. We look forward to seeing you again.
3 of us went to celebrate a birthday & it was wonderful. The food, service, everything was great!
Thank you for the great review. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
They had a limited menu, but the server directed us to excellent choices
We didn't fully realise before we sat down that this is essentially a brightly lit sports bar attached to a Hotel, with a limited menu (Pizzas and starters plus a few deserts). That said, we really enjoyed the excellent food (super Pizza, excellent salad and Burrata and scrumptious cheesecake and Affagato!), super service and great wines. Highly recommend it, but you should know where you are going!
Overall great experience--great food and the patio looked nice. Service was a bit slow/seemed unprepared (couldn't find us an indoor table despite us having a reservation, and server got pulled away to do other tasks fairly often) but I'll give them a pass since it was a holiday and we made the reservation fairly last-minute.
Terrible service. Never got the drinks we ordered. The waitress lost someone's credit card. Most of the staff was looking for the card and completely forgot about us.
One of the BEST dining experiences I have ever had. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all exceptional!
The staff was so polite and attentive. We were a larger party and they made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious!!
Our server jay was so awesome! Without him, I’m not sure the experience would have been the same!
very well lit, not noisy. great for people who get overwhelmed by dark/loud restaurants. food was all great, servers polite and attentive
Thank you for the great review. We hope to see you back soon.
Beautiful ambience and amazing service! I love the simplicity of their select menu which makes decision making easier. The food was reminiscent of Europe. Overall the perfect place for enjoyable, feel-good dining.
Thank you for the review. We are so glad that you had a wonderful time.
So glad we had a reservation — we got the last available indoor table, near the door so we were frequently blasted with cold air. The wait staff was great and brought us a complimentary serving of bruschetta. Dinner was creative and well prepared.
Great atmosphere with heated patio. Staff was warm and always available.
Love Via Sophia! The food is always surprisingly complex and delicious. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. My only complaint is the noise level, whether inside or out. For the last several meals, we have dined on their terrace and, with their location on K St., the noise from the traffic is almost unbearable. There's nothing Via Sophia can do about that, but it sometimes makes for difficulty hearing the conversation. But...with everything else so wonderful, we are more than willing to put up with that. Thank you, Via Sophia for some memorable dining!
Thank you for the great review. We hope to see you back soon.
Great, tasty and very nicely de orated dishes. Waiter was absolutely kind and friendly. We enjoyed our dining experience.
We had a truly spectacular dinner, with great appetizers, wine, and really exceptional service from both our waiter and the sommelier.
Great service and food. Nice location for semi casual vibes.
