The speakeasy style entry through a vintaged themed butcher shop sees the space open up into a beautifully fitted out dining haven.
The food is inspired by the Spanish Vaquero (herdsman) with aged and cured meats front and centre on a beautifully designed ever changing menu.
Chef Damon porter and his team work side by side with a skilled team of bartenders and waiters.
This is a elegantly casual dining venue with flexibility across the board for events and intimate or romantic dinners welcomes its little sister "on the side" by Vaquero.
If you are looking for a small bar for a drink before or after you dinner with friends, just pop next door.
With Albion trains station 150 meters away Vaquero and On the side will satisfy your every need.
Thank you for you interest for our Albion hidden gem.
A great space and ambience. Food and service was exemplary with just the right amount of interaction with the friendly staff. I would happily make this a regular place with an interesting and varied menu. Keep up the great service and quality produce.
Service is good. Ordered chargrilled octopus but advised only squid is available. It is not cooked properly and part of it is raw. Desert is small. Overall very pricy for food .
Delicious food. Interesting combinations. Great service.
Always love this restaurant. A class act
Absolutely brilliant in every aspect. The food is outstanding and unique, matched with service and value.
Food was over priced, small sizes. Trying to be something amazing but missing the mark
Never disappoints and a couple of recent additions to the wine list are grand!
A lovely restaurant. You can really tell that they care about the quality of their ingredients. It is worth it purely for their broccoli alone. I have never tasted nicer broccoli !!
Went for lunch for birthday on Saturday 261019. Fantastic food great service will be back.
As always, the food was perfection and the friendly, attentive wait staff faultless. Thank you for a superb evening!
innovative food , great service , a good night out.
Excellent food and service. Noise level a little high for good conversation.
It was everything a good restaurant should be. We were well looked after by attentive staff and the food was amazing.
Food is absolutely wonderful and the service is attentive but just the right amount of distance. Definitely trust recommendations by the staff and the wine list is a excellent selection of Australia’s wine regions at a very reasonable price. The head chef is innovative and exceptionally skilled. What he is doing is very exciting and a gastronomic adventure. A must in Brisbane dinning
Creative and thoughtfully designed menu. Compliments to the kitchen.
We have been for lunch before and it was great. Went again for dinner on the weekend and was disappointing.
- The charcuterie plate was delicious and generously portioned.
- The fish and prawn dish was delicious and the sauce was nice.
- We accidentally ordered a glass of wine from the bottles only section of the menu and don't realise the mistake until after the bottle was opened. Although the waitress seemed horribly inconvenienced by this, the other staff (manager maybe?) sorted it with minimal fuss thankfully.
- The service from our waitress (French accent) really let this restaurant down. She was abrupt. We wanted to order some starters before we decided on the mains but she wouldn't let us. She said 'I'd like you to order everything together' and walked away. Every time we tried to order something from her she seemed to be in a hurry to leave the table and didn't let us finish our order. The two male waiters that evening seemed much happier and more helpful. We had to order a beer twice after it didn't arrive after 15 mins.
- Most of the food was good except for the pork. It was described as pork shoulder but it was more a loin. Very lean, very dry. It needed some kind of sauce. I'm not a food expert so take this with a grain of salt and it's just an opinion. However there is no excuse for the crackling on this dish. The crackling was like chewing gum. It looked fine but it was cooked too fast and hadn't rendered at all. I wanted to spit it out but decided against it in a place so nice. The table next to us had similar comments.
We were going to get dessert but decided to cut our losses and go elsewhere for dessert.
Our first experience of this place so great that we will give it another go before writing it off completely. It was such a different experience this time, mostly because of the waitress.
We found the waiter too pushy trying to upsell too much. We bought two bottles of wine and he emptied them in our glasses far too quickly to enjoy. Felt like he then wanted us to order another bottle as he emptied it. Didn’t like the pushy up selling strategy. Charcuterie board was $50 and had four dollops of meat and bread. Disappointing.
I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF MY MOTHER, BROTHER AND MYSELF. WE DINED AT YOUR RESTAURANT LAST SAT NIGHT. OUR MEAL WAS SO ENJOYALBLE, INCLUDING THE ATMOSPHERE. BUT WE CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT THE DESSERT. THE CHOC TART WAS AN EXPERIENCE WE CANNOT MATCH. WE LOVE OUR FOOD, WE ALL INVEST SO MUCH INTO OUR HOME COOKING AND EXPERIMENTING. THIS DESSERT WAS UNBELIEVABLE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS CREATION EXPERIENCE :)
Great venue, food was amazing a foodies paradise. Only slight negative is time between main and dessert seemed a little too long
Amazing food. always different. have been many times and never had a bad dish. I love this place
Great food and service. You just can’t go wrong at this place and can’t wait to go again.
Fine food with friendly, informal but attentive service.
Fantastic restaurant of our favourite! Food is always excellent, the menu changes pretty regularly but the standard never drops! Only thing better than the food is the service, the team has excellent product knowledge and will always make recommendations if your stuck for choice in a very friendly professional manner!
We have been here a few times and every time the food, wine and service have been very good.
Love the atmosophere and that fact that the chef mixes with his "guests" and is happy to explain his cooking etc. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Thank you.
The service was very good.
Serving size was small but the food was tasty. There was a large table of people inside that was very noisy and got noisier as the night went on which was a bit annoying. Wouldn't say it was very good value for money but i might go back if I'm in the area.
Although I and my partner are pescatarians and Vaquero prides itself on its butchery, charcuterie and meat dishes, we found enough fish and vegetable dishes on the menu to satisfy our desires.
Our party of 4 started with four share plates:
SPICE CONFIT POTATOES, YOGHURT, CORIANDER & BOTTARGA
BEETROOT TARTARE, CORN PUREE, SMOKED SESAME CREAM, HAZELNUT & KALE
COAL FIRED OCTOPUS, BABA GANOUSH, PICKLED GARLIC & SMOKED ALMOND and
SOURDOUGH, HOUSE BUTTER, SESAME CRUMB
The vegetable plates were excellent, the vegetables cooked to perfection and delivered with beautifully refined, delicate sauces. The octopus was a surprise in its melting delicacy, offset by the slightly acrid flavours of the baba ganoush and smoked almond.
On the advice of our very helpful, pofessional waiter, we also ordered CHARRED BROCCOLI WITH SESAME SAUCE to accompany the main courses.
My partner ordered ROASTED MARKET MUSHROOMS, SPAETZLE, SLOW COOKED HENS EGG & TRUFFLE SALT and I had a PRAWN AND FISH IN CHOWDER. The plates were in the nouvelle cuisine style of being not overly generous, but satisfying all the same. The fish was again as delicate as could be. The chowder was really a sauce, not the sea of fishy soup one normally expects, but delicious.
As testimony to the adequacy of the portions, I was the only one to order a dessert, a POACHED PEAR GELATO & BLUEBERRIES concoction, not too sweet or creamy, just perfect.
The wine selection is top-shelf, so be prepared to pay $60 for a decent bottle.
The décor, ambience and table settings put you in the best frame of mind for a culinary treat. The young woman who served us was knowledgeable, friendly and on the ball without hovering. Full marks to her!
Vaquero is a real find. I wholeheartedly recommend it for that special occasion for the moderately well-off.
Always excellent food and service. Very nice not to be rushed by timed sittings and to be able to enjoy a long relaxed lunch with friends. Well done once again !
What a lovely tucked away secret. Fantastic experience, great food and service, will definitely be back!
Outstanding food, warm and professional service. Our second time dining there and there will most definitely be a third! Quickly becoming a favourite place for us in Brisbane!
Really tasty food, the charcuterie platter was amazing. Great service too - thanks for a great night!
This charming restaurant is another example of exceptional food in the suburbs! I booked for a Saturday lunch with a visiting foodie friend and was not disappointed. The service was exceptional and well informed with detailed explanations of produce sources and menu specifics. Needless to say it was delicious. We had the Saturday lunch special of seafood paella and sangria. The paella was more than enough for two ; the seafood, large prawns , mussels and fish and the rice had the requisite crusty base. It was teamed with the best sangria I have tasted. Fresh, while still being full bodied.
For dessert we shared petit fours, passion fruit snakes, nougat, lemon lime and bitters Turkish delight, and salted caramel.💋
Must do again soon!
We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and it was a very memorable experience ...just perfect and we will definitely be coming back
This is my third time dining at vaquero and each time I am blown away at the level of service, the quality of food and attention to detail. I would definitely visit again. Love this place!
The Menu was quite different from the online menu
The portions were very small the mains were entree size and not very tasty
They tried to do a spin on classic french without success bland and not real fresh.
Wine and drinks are expensive and what you can buy from local wholesalers
Experience was absolutely sensational. I will definitely be recommending it.
Our favourite restaurant. Even better on a quiet weeknight than on a weekend. Excellent service, delicious flavours.
Hi, overall this is a great place with excellent service that is very hard to find these days. The food was good, however my husband was so looking forward to the venison but it was unfortunately over cooked. Bit disappointing but would still go back again as that’s one small complaint. Thanks
Busy and buzzy restaurant with beautiful food. There's a real sense of drama to dining and I would love to dine there again.
What a beautiful dinner service. Could not have been better in any way. The food was absolutely incredible - each dish presented so beautifully, cooked lovingly, served on beautiful ceramic plates, and accompanied by enthusiastic explanations by members of the restaurant team. The team were able to accomodate, so generously, for our gluten free guest which was so appreciated. The team were also able to provide great wine recommendations, throughout our meal. It was such a treat to dine at vaquero, and we can’t wait to hear back again.
