We opened in December 2018 to bring to West Hartford an innovative, yet approachable modern American cuisine, as designed by Chef Zach Shuman, in a comfortable, welcoming setting.
Great salads, wines, desserts and after dinner drinks. Entree’ was good but not great. Wonderful service, location and atmosphere.
Union Kitchen has done a nice job during
We had a fantastic server who was friendly and knowledgeable. In addition the lobster roll was amazing.
we told the server we had food allergies. they brought the dish with the items we told them we were allergic to it. They placed the plate on the table and spilled half of the serving and server said "oops" then we asked for hamburger they gave us cheeseburger. we asked for mash, we got mac and cheese. we talk to manager and he took off the salad but I don't think they understood the gravity of feeding someone something that they are ALLERGIC TO!
Best Lobster Roll I ever had! Must have been the meat of a whole lobster. Went for Fathers Day brunch and everything was fine.
7 yr wedding anniversary and Rachel was absolutely awesome!!!!
Great outdoor dining.
The lemon zest pie was amazing!! Noce place in west hartford.
Food was mediocre. Especially for the price.
This was our second visit to Union Kitchen with our friends. We returned because the food was so good the first time. The second time was just as good.
Very loud hard to hear my husband and he wears hearing aids and the volume of noise makes it very difficult to hear .
It was so loud couldn’t even tell you if music was playing
Union Kitchen used to be one of the favorite restaurants in West Hartford Center. Tuesday night the food was mediocre at best. 3 of the 4 meals we had were extremely salty (and I like salt). My son ordered the roasted half chicken. It was so salty he couldn't eat it and presentation was terrible. There was so much gravy that it looked like soup on a plate. This made the mashed potatoes mushy. I'll think twice about going back for dinner and if I do will never order the chicken. We had the angel food cake for dessert and the cake was more like a pound cake than angel food and the fruit sauce that was served with it tasted like it was made with frozen fruit. Not good. All of this was unacceptable for a $150 bill (no alcoholic beverages were ordered). Our server was great. Very attentive and friendly.
My wife and I went to Union Kitchen for the first time since the concept and menu change from the previous Noble restaurant and it’s purchase by the BEAN Restaurant Group. We parked in an open space behind the restaurant.
The bar was very cool, lighted shelves to the ceiling with an extensive liquor menu. The coffered ceilings in the bar area gives depth and a casual elegance.
My wife and I started with salads, the Simple Greens and the Wedge, respectively. The salads were large and accurately described on the menu. We both thought our salads were fresh and tasty.
We both ordered burgers for our meal; my wife had the Patty Melt and I had the UK Burger. The burgers were good and consistent with the menu write-up.
When we left the restaurant, we noticed our car had been towed. The signage stating that it was a tow zone was not visible, and only stated BRG MGT, I presume for BEAN Restaurant Group management, the owners of Union Kitchen, McLadden’s and other restaurants. As we walked around the parking lot to look for where our car may have been taken to, a waitress pointed us to a faded Whitey’s Towing sign.
When we called Whitey’s to retrieve our car, we were threatened and cursed at by the Whitey’s operator and were told we couldn’t retrieve our car until Monday ( which is illegal). Union Kitchen and BEAN Restaurant Group, you ultimately own the customer experience- ours Saturday night was terrible; we had to walk home, wasted three hours of our night finding and retrieving our car, we paid $196.16 in cash to have our car released and to top off the evening - we were threatened and cursed at by Whitey’s Towing service. We’re done with Union Kitchen and BEAN Restaurant Group restaurants, (why you would have your customers’ cars towed is beyond me), but I will never return to any of your restaurants- the food was ok, but in no way worth what we endured. I am not done with Whitey’s Towing - how dare you speak to my wife that way, expect to hear from the DMV
We are truly sorry. Unfortunately, we have no control over the towing company we didn't hire, at a lot we don't own. I did personally try to convince Whitey's - in fact begged them to return your car immediately, to no avail. The signs are there, not without some discoloring, but clearly visible. I have strongly recommended the group to influence the landlord to reconsider the employment of Whitey's, though we are locked into a lease contract, of course. Please call us. - Taki Tanaka, GM
In a town filled with great restaurants, there is a reason this one had a last minute reservation available for a Saturday night and quite a few empty tables. This restaurant is a good restaurant in a town and on the same street as great restaurants. And our server was terrible.
Union Kitchen was great. Good food. Nice atmosphere in a great part of town.
Great food and great service! Will certainly return.
Meals -ehh, ok/nothing special. Swordfish was very thin....this led to it being dry. Dessert was great though-bread pudding may be the best Ive ever had.
We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day meal. My only complaint would have to be how loud it was between people talking and music and such in the background. Overall, our food and drinks were delicious.
Very noisy so it made it difficult to converse. Bar was hopping, maybe due to Basketball game on TV, but then again it was Saturday night. Here's what we ordered: onion soup - just o.k., minimal cheese, not browned enough on top and not particularly hot either, garlic noodles - very good, but extremely small portion for the price point; hamburger patty - very tasty, but rye bread was too greasy and meat was overcooked, sirloin steak, again, overcooked, french fries were limpy and not that hot. We didn't want to send anything back because we didn't want to wait and were starving. Mentioned issues to waitress, who btw was very sweet, whom in turn told manager. Manager was very nice and apologetic. He offered dessert and took 50% off all 3 entrees. So, we really appreciated the accommodation.
I really like the vibe in this restaurant. Menu choices are well thought out (though wish you'd bring back the meatloaf). We'll definitely be back in hopes of getting food as ordered.:)
The roasted chicken with season vegetable was amazing! Flavor was delicious.
Our waiter was very attentive and courteous. The burgers were fantastic as well!!
Celebrated New Year’s Eve with my family at Union Kitchen. As usual, the food was delicious. Jared, our waiter, was great. I highly recommend the Brussels
Sprouts and the Truffle Fries! The scallops were perfectly cooked.
Hannah is amazing! We had a really nice time and will be back soon!
Great service and ambiance. It is on the pricer side, but definitely a great special occasion choice.
The atmosphere was very nice and the wait staff were very helpful. Our dinner was terrible. We had chicken picata. It was bland and most importantly the chicken was tough and overcooked. We did not eat it. We were disappointed.
Best dinner ever!! My husband and I on a date for my birthday. I had Chicken Piccata which I love and am very particular about. Best ever. Great wine.
My husband had Pork Chip dinner which full of flavor.
We shared the White Chocolate Bread Pudding that was out of this world.
This was our second time dining at Union Kitchen and we are still raving about it.
Thanks to Brianne for great and friendly service
Always a great night out, this visit to UK was our best yet.
Union Kitchen is a great restaurant! Not only are the food and drinks excellent, but the service and wait staff are friendly and efficient. The noise level can be a bit high at times, but it is always a wonderful dining experience!
Overall, Union Kitchen is a perfect place to go with Friends, business meetings, date night out, etc. Everyone is extremely friendly and I will absolutely be going again!
I do have a few suggestions;
1) Change up the menu a bit. The specials are great but I think some more diversity on the dinner menu would be good.
2) The Brussel sprouts are delicious however, back off on the Truffle oil quite a bit. The 2-3times I have had them, it was very oily even after asking to minimize the oil.
Food was very good. Waitstaff appeared overwhelmed or short-staffed. Noise level way too high. But I will return
Great food. Attentive wait staff. Nice atmosphere
French Toast was amazing and Short Rib Tacos were delicious. Chicken sandwich was a little soggy and mimosas were juice heavy. Definitely will go back.
Kinda loud. Food was great. A bit pricey.
all the food was super salty and it was way too noisy
Great food, atmosphere and service
Staff and management were amazing! Extremely attentive and friendly. The food was delicious.
This restaurant had some amazing food. The atmosphere was really cool and the service was excellent. definitely go if youre in the area!
Great spot for a low key casual weekday dinner. Food was tasty and reasonable
We enjoyed our evening at Union Kitchen. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was fun. Drinks were skimpy except for wine. Some dishes were excellent others were so-so. But overall we'd go back.
I have been to most of the restaurants in West Hartford, and this is one of my favorites. A very warm and lively atmosphere is accompanied by great service and a fun menu. The food was terrific! Loved the scallops and SPAM fried rice. The risotto was amazing. Loved the truffle fries.....AND the Brussels sprouts were the best I have had. Definitely worth a visit....and I will be back! Thanks, Union.
A gem in West Hartford. Have been multiple times, this review regards their absolutely super brunch menu. Went two weekends in a row - a Saturday and a Sunday. Creative menu choices to suit most anyone. Excellent homemade Bloody Mary's. Roasted brussel sprouts are addictive and not to be missed. Avocado toast, turkey hash, ahi tuna, and spinach salads with salmon were big hits. My guests raved about the restaurant and will make a point to have dinner here.
