Food was excellent but the portions were too small, even for a tapas style. The service was also slow.
The worse part was how bluntly they skimped on the alcohol: we ordered a $48- half bottle of sake. It was served in a pretty clay pot that only afforded two small shots. When we complained to the waitress, she said that she served what was left in the bottle, and that they only serve 1/3 of bottles not halves.
The two shots were not even a 1/3 of a bottle-We left her 10% tip, we should have left her even less.
Wow what a great restaurant. A lovey place to enjoy an authentic and approachable Japanese meal. The ambiance is fantastic, and service was on point. Started the night next door at Ototo for a glass of sake and snacky snacks (same ownership) which I recommend, then we went to our reservation for dinner. Everything was delicious. No misses. Especially loved the duck fat garlic fried rice and the chicken thigh oyster skewers. So good!
this might be the best restaurant in LA, but definitely the best on the east side. their attention to detail, service and of course the food was incredible. the dungeoness crab custard was a stand out, in addition to the braised short rib. great sake selection. everything was absolutely perfect.
i'll also add, that while dining there, an A++++ list celebrity tried to get a table without a reservation in the already fully-packed restaurant, and to my surprise, the restaurant did not punt a reservation to make it happen. the celeb very politely demurred and the restaurant kept their reservation.
more places should in los angeles have this much integrity. couldn't have loved it more.
I liked the short rib, turnips and steamed egg very much. The tuna, spanish octopus, beef/uni toast, crab fried rice were ok
One of the great restaurants in LA at the moment. Everything we ordered was delicious and there is wide variety on the menu.
Was delicious and special!
Way too expensive ; friendly staff and nice interior.
Third time at least as good as the first! Avoid the rice dishes and definitely get the short ribs.
Food is absolutely delicious! Enjoyed my visit and excited to come back again and try other dishes!
Every bite was extremely cared for and delicious. Why a thoughtful experience
Always a joy eating here.
just delicious and so interesting. I loved the sake menu, and I can hardly wait go back and try more dishes on the menu.
It was our wedding anniversary dinner. The food was delicious, but the service made the experience less than enjoyable.
Best food, exquisite
Tsubaki is my favorite restaurant in LA! Amazing food, amazing service, amazing ambiance. A must!!
Amazing coursed out dinner! Fried octopus was truly amazing and cooked to perfection. Awesome staff & service, we had a great date night here.
The ambiance is perfect for a date night. The food was delicious, especially the octopus tempura and the Uni toast. Great service and amazing food. I will definitely be going back.
Food is always outstanding. The short ribs are out of this world.
always my go to place for great food and sake/beverage and Courtney is the best
Amazing food and sake! Super impressed.
The rumors were right; it is a true gem in L A. The ONLY complaint I have is that the lighting is TOO DARK to see the menu and the food.
The food was fine. But there are far better Asian restaurants in LA for less of a cost. Not worth the hype.
We came here for dinner on our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience. We felt so special and taken care of by the entire staff. The food is incredible — you must get the whole fish and the madai sashimi. We wanted to try everything, every dish was better than the last.
I love this restaurant. The food and drinks were delicious and the service was top notch! Definitely coming back!
Food and service was great! Thank you for the anniversary dessert after our meal.
This is such a great spot! Everything was perfect from the food to the service. I will definitely be back!
Great plates to share, great selections of sake and great atmosphere! I'll definitely be back!
Love Food and Sake List👍✨
Good food but would appreciate more new dishes that are not deep fried.
Superb, strikingly imaginative twists on Japanese classics. A gem.
one of our own very favorite restaurants anywhere in the city and in the country.
Had to wait 30 minutes for our table
Croquets were amazing
Short ribs were tough
Tofu was utterly flavorless
Hard to read menus, small print and dark room
Exactly what I was looking for. Japanese cuisine at it’s finest near Silver Lake. The staff was great, the ambiance perfect for the occasion, the Sake among the best, and the food was the star of the show. Definitely worth another visit.
A 5-star experience in every respect! Seated promptly, superb service, and food, sake and Japanese beers on draft that are all terrific.
Parking: Street parking, which can be tough in LA area, good thing they provide valet parking.
The restaurant is a gem, tiny yet cozy. It's great for party of 2-4. The food is just absolutely bravo. Love the combination of flavor. Might be a bit on the pricey side if you want to fill up the tummy, make sure you order rice dish. will definitely go back again.
come as you are, as a friend as you want me to be, as a friend
the food was insane!
Lovely meal. Every bite was delicious.
Fantastic. New tastes and flavors, but never overcomplicated. Staff is incredibly helpful with both food and drink selections.
This is a charming establishment with wonderfully original cuisine served by a charming stuff. Truly a find.
