At Trattoria Emilia we seasonally change the menu and source a large majority of our produce from regional Victoria, our meat is organic and sustainably grown in Tasmania and we import some of the best Italian DOC products. Some dishes that are not to be missed are the Antipasti board which changes daily as well as the Tortelloni Emiliani, and don't forget to try the crowd favourite salumi e gnocco fritto with mortadella mousse (and if you have a bottle of something special bring it along Monday - Wednesday when we offer BYO!)
Rustic, yet refined, Trattoria Emilia boasts fantastic ambience, attentive and professional service whilst all the while remaining a great casual dining spot perfect for a quick lunch, a long relaxing dinner with friends and has always been a romantic date spot.
Saturday: 8:00am - 10:00pm
The whole restaurant experience was terrific. We were early so didn’t experience any problem with noise. Main courses were all flavoursome. The fish special was lovely if a bit small. We decided the chocolate desserts were not nearly as good as the tiramisu. Service was good. We’ll be back.
Exceptional as usual, the food is always of such a high calibre.
The setting great, the service good, the wine selection excellent, the entre ok but both risottos Luke warm at best and fractionally undercooked. Sent one back to reheat. In summary average value for money.
Not my first time here and certainly not my last. The food is very good, tasty and fresh. It was my guest's first time and she'll return with her husband.
Great food, service was quick and friendly. Will definitely be back.
Excellent and authentic cucina emiliana. The gnocco fritto with salumi and the tortelloni brought us back to Modena. Monday nights is BYO, so for a very moderate corkage charge, you can bring a special bottle, which I would strongly recommend.
We celebrated my sons 21st with small family gathering at Trattoria Emilia. This was a first visit. Sensational and knowledgeable service, divine pasta, fabulous bread and a terrific ambiance. They even managed to provide a small cake and candle when we put in a last minute request. We’ll definitely be back!
Food very good and staff very friendly. Good value.
Group of 4 for catch-up. Attentive service beginning to end. Food was fresh and tasty. One star off for espresso at end of meal being cold (warm the cup!).
Visiting the lovely Melbourne from Sydney we were so pleased to have booked a table here. We had a fabulous dinner. Loved the food, the ambiance, the attentive and friendly service from Christie and other staff, overall a really enjoyable evening.
We look forward to returning in the future.
Delicious Italian cuisine. Loved the menu options and the owner Matteo was extremely helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the pace of the delivery of the courses. We were offered a Lemoncello to round of the lunch which was a lovely touch.
Trattoria Emilia is a little tricky to find hidden down a side alley off Little Collins St however it was well worth seeking it out.
We shared the antipasto for 1 which was terrific with lots of unusual tasting surprises followed by two pasta dishes which were also very good.
The house wine was more than adequate and the service cheerful and efficient.
Everything made for a very enjoyable lunch and then off to the nearby Sky Bus for my flight back to Sydney.
Not many places for a Saturday business lunch nearby, but it was good. Quieter than on a weekday.
being there before.
My partner and I enjoyed he 5 course chef selected menu. Wait staff and chef were very accommodating to my request to not include duck and oysters in the courses offered, with no hesitation. Fantastic ambience, AMAZING food, great wine list and service was excellent. Will absolutely return! Highly recommended
Every time we dine here the food, wine and customer service is exceptional.
the food is fabulous and love the space but no one wants to be seated staring at a wall all night and better air-con please
Specials are always great too
This one of my favourite city restaurants. I introduced 2 friends to the latest experience and they were as impressed as I always am. Organising a family get together in November!
I go there every second week, and was looking for trying the new spring menu.
The service is absolutely friendly and accurate, and food simply amazing. The pork belly with salsa verde and mostarda was delicious, can’t wait to be back there to try the rest of the new menu!
Miss the trippa. Food extremely tasty. Prices seem to be getting on high side. But still a very good atmosphere/ambience, and good choice.
Great restaurant lovely staff
Excellent Service and food
They double booked me so whilst sitting enjoying our first relaxing drink my mobile rang!!! Having answered it, the obvious caller was but 5 metres away wondering where I was for my booking.
Having said that, it is a nice relaxing spot, albeit somewhat hidden, with a nice ambience.
We (three of us) only had one course, so to be fair, may be harsh in saying it was ok but not outstanding.
The antipasto selection was unusual and so tasty - not a morsel left. Everyone in our group enjoyed their main course and the shared accompanying salads. Highly recommend. Lovely atmosphere in the evening and so good not to need to shout at the person next to you or across the other side of the table.
We love eating here, so Trattoria Emilia was our first thought when trying to pick a place for my husbands birthday dinner. We already had an early booking, but the staff were very accommodating and led us to our table though we were 40 minutes early. The waiter was great in explaining which dishes they could make vegetarian and these options did not disappoint. And a lovely complimentary fresh loaf of bread from the bakery, on our way out. Always a lovely gesture and very much appreciated.
Good food - authentic. However sometimes you want the classic Italian (in addition) - maybe few more pasta dishes, even pizza. I realise they are being true to the Emelia Regena area - however some dishes were bland, and more variety needed.
We had a fantastic dinner at Trattoria Emilia, I would recommend visiting, especially for a special occasion.
I marked 4 stars as there were a few mistakes made with orders and billing. There are also no vegetarian options on the pasta or mains menu, but there were some changes they were able to make to ‘vegetarianise’ dishes. Unfortunately I did not enjoy my dish but look forward to trying something else next time.
Otherwise, everyone enjoyed their dishes and had a lovely night.
Visiting our son in Melbourne it is one of his favourite places to eat, especially the ragu! Friendly, attentive service, beautiful home made bread (including a free loaf to take home), good wine list, wonderful authentic Italian food, what's not to love?!
It has good Italian Food. Fantastic Antipasta and bread. I can see what I eat and the noise level is low. Staff very friendly and accommodating. When in town I love coming here.
Entre, charcuterie, had some different items. Main, lamb shoulder with roast potatoes, very ordinary. Dry, didn't look as if much effort was made.
The food was the best Italian I had in a very long time. The service spot on, friendly and professional, felt like we were in Italy. The chestnut gnocchi with beef ragout was fantastic but my spaghetti with botarga and tuna was perfection, best pasta dish I ever had.
Can't wait to return!
Eight of us dined and everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Great food, great wine list - hope to return soon.
2 our of our 4 meals were sub standard with one having to be sent back as the pasta was hard and under cooked (chef confirmed same) and the other so bland it needed to be drowned in salt for some flavour. The bread was phenomenal and the wait staff attentive and apologetic but after hearing such great things about the restaurant we were rather disappointed and wouldn’t go back.
Really good service, $10 BYO Mon-Wed and I recommend trying the Tortelloni Emiliani.
Emila is a bit of a challenge to locate but well worth the hunt.
Our meal was faultless and delicious - 4 empty plates back to the kitchen
Service was friendly and one minor mistake was solved immediately and with an explanation (not excuse) as to how it happened.
Wonderful choice of great Italian food in a warm and very pleasant ambience. Excellent service by well informed engaging staff.
Amazing discovery. Great food, great wine, great venue.
Great little restaurant hidden up a lane way. Good and interesting Italian food. Good wine list and interesting beers. Cost, cool surroundings.
A return visit as my wife wasn’t very well on our first visit. Food was very well executed, service great and we loved the informal feel about the space. Great value too.
I don't remember it being this great! The salumi board, the beef cheeks and the ragu were our options on this visit, and it felt like heaven all over again (and not to mention the amazing complimentary bread!). Great pacing of the food - service was good, but could have done with a bit more warmth. Will be returning to our favourite Italian haunt in Melbourne!
