About Trattoria Emilia
Trattoria Emilia is an authentic Italian restaurant focusing on seasonal produce and fresh pasta. Head chefs Francesco Rota and Luca Flammia hail from Modena in Emilia Romagna.
At Trattoria Emilia we seasonally change the menu and source a large majority of our produce from regional Victoria, our meat is organic and sustainably grown in Tasmania and we import some of the best Italian DOC products. Some dishes that are not to be missed are the Antipasti board which changes daily as well as the Tortelloni Emiliani, and don't forget to try the crowd favourite salumi e gnocco fritto with mortadella mousse (and if you have a bottle of something special bring it along Monday - Wednesday when we offer BYO!)
Rustic, yet refined, Trattoria Emilia boasts fantastic ambience, attentive and professional service whilst all the while remaining a great casual dining spot perfect for a quick lunch, a long relaxing dinner with friends and has always been a romantic date spot.

Trattoria Emilia Ratings and Reviews
Honestly everything was good but the portion size of the octopus dish. 1 small thin leg sliced in 2 with sauce for $22?? And when the waiter saw we were going to share she didn’t even advised that was a small dish for one person. This was the only thing I could fault from the food. The espresso at end was warm and the cup cold. Either than that everything else was ok!
First time to this Restaurant since change of name and would thoroughly recommend for lunch or dinner. Great Italian food, very authentic and well presented. Good selection of wines, especially Italian wines. Loved the decor and the staff were very attentive and well conversed with food and wine.
As a sicilian, even I can appreciate the authenticity of this emilian trattoria. Gnoccho fritto is rarely seen outside of Emilia Romagna, let alone Italia. Risotto cacio e pepe with oxtail and spring-influenced ravioli di parmigiano with broad beans, asparagus and zucchini was faults (although I would have substituted freshly-shelled peas for the zucchini). The place where I bring Italians who know real food - and where I bring Australians to learn about it.
We had the most interesting meal we have had in a long time. The flavours were absolutely clear, tasty and full of the flavour from whence they came.Loved the decor and the atmosphere it created. Service impeccable. Can't wait to go there again. They were so lovely gave us a loaf of bread for breakfast as were staying in an apartment, and decent bread places were closed. Have already spread the message.
My husband and I dined at Trattoria Emilia this year for our wedding anniversary celebration. This was my second time there. My mother came from the actual Italian "region" from where the cuisine originates. The first time I had dined there I found the meal satisfactory but the service was very average, but this second dining experience there, I found both the food AND the service very pleasing. I am gluten free, and the waiting staff were very attentive to my every need. We will definately return for a third time there in the future!
Our favourite Italian!
Love the fact that this is hidden away from the main streets in the CBD, definitely adds to the charm.
Be warned - the menu has so many great items that it decisions can be challenging!
The gnocchi was amazing, and so was the Italian IPA! You've also got to have the cured meats and pate as the starter.
We had wanted a cosy, relaxed atmosphere for our special occasion, so Trattoria Emilia really met our wishes In that regard. The staff were very attentive and friendly which made us feel welcome! The food was very interesting with special flavours and combinations, presented well and very different to many standard Italian restaurants. The only issue was that the wine was a little expensive, but we had a very enjoyable evening!
Good food good atmosphere and good service! Their portions are quite generous so if you have small stomach then choose your meal wisely. Love their focaccia before the drinks! In the end I also got a surprise fresh homemade bread loaf to go with my leftovers (we ordered too much). 👍
Fantastic rustic-style and very beautiful Italian food. We enjoyed the most delicious moist sourdough bread (their own from their bakery) and peppery olive oil while we waited for our meals. We loved the food, service & ambience so much that we popped back the next morning to their attached bakery and had fabulous coffee & pastries for breakfast. Highly recommend and will certainly be back. If we lived in Melbourne it would be our weekly meal out.
It was typically August in Melbourne and a rain filled wednesday night, all i wanted was a fresh bowl of homely pasta with a great glass of wine in a relaxed atmosphere and Emillia was honestly exactly that! From the warm fresh baked bread and delicious olive oil to the light creamy tortelloni and heavenly tiramisu dessert the food was wanderful and authentic. The atmosphere, thanks to the relaxed, welcoming staff and fantastic subtle interior, meant you could easily get lost for an hour or so in great conversation and come out feeling very content whatever the weather! Food and dining for the soul! Fantastic.
