At Trattoria Emilia we seasonally change the menu and source a large majority of our produce from regional Victoria, our meat is organic and sustainably grown in Tasmania and we import some of the best Italian DOC products. Some dishes that are not to be missed are the Antipasti board which changes daily as well as the Tortelloni Emiliani, and don't forget to try the crowd favourite salumi e gnocco fritto with mortadella mousse (and if you have a bottle of something special bring it along Monday - Wednesday when we offer BYO!)
Rustic, yet refined, Trattoria Emilia boasts fantastic ambience, attentive and professional service whilst all the while remaining a great casual dining spot perfect for a quick lunch, a long relaxing dinner with friends and has always been a romantic date spot.
Amazing quality! Truly authentic.
Gnocco fritto, tigelle and salumi board were sooo yummy and their tortelloni and cappellacci just divine!
The environment, locale, food, wine list all first class and great value.
We have been to Trattoria Emilia several times and have loved everything about it. On Saturday we went there to celebrate 3 very special birthdays. While the wait staff were generally very helpful and polite one of them literally slapped the bill on our table after we asked for it and did likewise with the pay facility. No words at all. Very rude.
But what really annoyed us was the 'antipasto platter'. We have thoroughly enjoyed each little taste sensation in the past. But this time it looked like they had scraped the bottom of the fridge for any left overs they could find - all slapped onto individual plates instead of onto a beautiful breadboard which we were expecting. Some scabby beetroot dip, tiny slices of spinach pie, some sort of pickled vegetable, small slices of veal or beef covered in white sauce, and slivers of pate with some tough as nails, tooth destroying crisps. It was nothing like we were expecting, barely conforming to what is commonly regarded as an Italian antipasto platter. At the time I actually thought I must have been in a Lebanese restaurant with the beetroot and spinach pie. At roughly $26.00 plus an extra $14 per person the 'antipasto platter' was an insult to our hip pocket nerves. Thankfully, the main meals were quite nice, although my seafood ravioli was somewhat bland.
After building up the hopes of my daughter and her boyfriend we were disappointed and embarrassed that Trattoria Emilia failed to deliver the wonderful food and service experience we had promised them. Not sure that we'll ever go back. Pity, the wine waiter at the bar does a great job and is lovely.
From the time you walk in you know this is going to be great!
Amazing food and great service!
My favourite course was the Salumi Misti, platter. It was favoursome and fresh. The bread that accompanied the platter was divine. The main of beef rib with radicchio accompaniment was very good but the mashed potato lacked a little flavour. The deserts were the least successful of our courses but still enjoyable. The wine recommendations were excellent. The service was extremely good. Our waiters were knowledgeable, efficient and professional. Overall, we were satisfied with our experience.
We celebrated our 20 year wedding anniversary at Trattoria Emilia. We selected the set menu and our waiter brought out 5 beautiful courses and really looked after us.
Would return again and feel no need to wait for the 40th anniversary
Awesome food and nice location.
Deserves to return.
Fantastic meal and service - highly recommend.
Make a perfect Negroni!
Absolutely fantastic! Beautiful authentic Italian food, in an intimate, charming restaurant. The pasta was so fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend the tortelloni and the pistachio panna cotta.
Cannot fault. Superb. Brilliant service. Thank you.
Exemplary service, flavourful and extremely good food. A great option in a city filled with choices.
gorgeous setting, warm knowledgeable food was so delicious
Having dined many times at Trattoria Emilia we were most disappointed with the latest experience to the extent we thought it may have changed ownership or the chef had moved on. Whilst the service was fine the all important food on the plate was very average and minimal in size. Prawn risotto as a main dish should have more than fragments of a prawn. Fish of the day which was served tepid, was again very minimal in size with 3 small shellfish and a token piece of calamari. The blue eye was also very small hiding under giant slices of radish. Dolce used to be a memorable experience but not from our latest visit. Such a pity as it was on our favourite list of restaurants.
Beautiful food and very friendly and helpful service.
The restaurant has a lovely ambience and is a popular choice for business lunches. We had a group of 4 people, we all had one alcoholic beverage and a main each and the bill was $180 - not extortionate but not cheap... Shame the seafood risotto was so bland!! The tortellini and spaghetti were lovely, however. Good portion sizes, not too big, but if you want a feed you might better served taking your $36 elsewhere. Service was a little slow, we had to ask for them to take our order... all in all a 50/50 experience.
Loved the atmosphere, waiters were honest about items on the menu and very attentive! The dishes were yummo! But could have been bigger!
The food here is second to none. I have been here a number of times and it always keeps me coming back. The quality consistency is what you expect from a great restaurant.
Always assured to have wonderful food and service that makes you feel welcome.
Love this restaurant. Our favorite Italian restaurant in Melbourne.
Both myself and my guest found the quality very good, portion size not representative of the price.
From the moment we walked in the doors, we had a wonderful evening at Emilia. We made a reservation earlier that day and were promptly shown to our table and an offer made to take our coats for us. After which we were provided with the drinks menu. After ordering drinks we were provided the food menu and each item explained. We were also provided outstanding wine recommendations for each dish we chose. The food was superb. The service was excellent from the waiter to the timeliness of food and drinks arriving at our table and the price was worth every bite we are. We can't wait to visit this hidden gem again.
Restaurant with a busy, yet friendly ambiance. Service was friendly and attentive and wait staff were lovely. We went there with a group of 5 friends, so the noise level did not impact us. Would definitely recommend it!
Nice restaurant with reasonable range of choices for entree and main. We ordered a cocktail and olives to start but main arrived before we had finished these so no time for wine with main. Seafood risotto was pleasant but pretty small for $36.
Complimentary breads was a nice touch which filled us up. Only small dessert menu so we did not bother.
The food, service and atmosphere were all first class. My only criticism would be; those of us seated adjacent to the kitchen and facing it had bright lights upon us( from the kitchen) . We felt it would be better if the kitchen wall were closed off with opaque glass. Other than that the dining experience was outstanding.
Absolutely delicious food, friendly and professional service, a great room on a cold winter's day in Melbourne
Still one of our favourites - the best short ribs that we've found!
Dinner was great but breakfast the next morning was truly awful with microwaved porridge with a skin on top and motel wrappered butter.
Absolutely divine - can’t get over the pasta and the mortadella mousse/pate. Service was ok - It was extremely busy but everyone was attentive. Would dine here weekly if I could!!
We had a lovely dinner, so thanks everyone and will be back soon. 😜
Have eaten here on a number of occasions, always good food and service, just a lovely place to dine. BYO earlier in the week is also great.
We found this place recommended in The Good Food Guide but was disappointed. We were welcomed by a very solemn young lady who was unwelcoming but she did cheer up as the lunch progressed. The braised ribs were very tasty but the tortellini was terrible as the meat inside tasted like cheap supermarket sausage and the sauce was so heavily cooked in butter it was far too rich and fatty (there was only about 6 or 7 on the plate but we couldn’t finish them). The wine was terrific and the atmosphere was great.
We love Trattoria Emilia. We’ve been there four times now and it always lives up to its high standard. The food, service and ambiance are all fantastic. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.
I arranged an evening as four Doctorate students with our professor. Average age about 60 years. The restaurant was completely full but the noise level was still reasonable. Overall opinion was that I made an outstanding choice of a restaurant and I basked in the glory. Didn’t last long as when I got home and told my wife, she reminded me that she had chosen the restaurant. I didn’t pass that titbit of irrelevant information to the others.
This is a little hidden gem. Food, service and the wine list are all very good. Highly recommend it
Poor food quality and slow service with rude customer caring. Never go back and not worth it at all. Overcooked fish and rare cooked duck breast and laziness of dessert flavour. Pasta was good and we enjoyed though. Customer service was zero point i would like to give them. It is very first time of my experience i upset by the package they offered me.
My daughter had said that Trattoria Emilia was well worth a visit and we weren’t disappointed. We will be going back soon!
Love what you guys are doing! Great food and service. Look forward to returning soon.
Amazing restaurant. High end food with a reasonable price tag and the staff are all professional and friendly. Authentically Italian, this place is a hidden gem
My husband and I went to Trattoria Emilia to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was our first time at this place. The food was really good and authentic Italian (so rare to find). It really reminded us of home. The service was very professional and friendly. It seems to us that a little piece of Emilia Romagna was here with us. Highly recommended. We will definitely come back again.
Had a great night out with friends for my birthday dinner at Trattoria Emilia. My husband ordered the tagliatelle ragu, which was one of the best ragu we've ever tasted. However, my dish was very underwhelming. I ordered the Moreton bay bug spaghetti, and while "chilli" and "lemon zest" were included in the description, I tasted neither. It also tasted really flat; likely needed a bit of sugar? Tiramisu for dessert more than made up for it though - absolutely delicious! We'd definitely return, but I'd stay away from the Moreton bay bug spaghetti.
