At Trattoria Emilia we seasonally change the menu and source a large majority of our produce from regional Victoria, our meat is organic and sustainably grown in Tasmania and we import some of the best Italian DOC products. Some dishes that are not to be missed are the Antipasti board which changes daily as well as the Tortelloni Emiliani, and don't forget to try the crowd favourite salumi e gnocco fritto with mortadella mousse (and if you have a bottle of something special bring it along Monday - Wednesday when we offer BYO!)
Rustic, yet refined, Trattoria Emilia boasts fantastic ambience, attentive and professional service whilst all the while remaining a great casual dining spot perfect for a quick lunch, a long relaxing dinner with friends and has always been a romantic date spot.
Excellent service and delicious food. Cosy location.
stumbled across this honest little gem in the CBD.
Had two pastas and a beautiful salad. All was very enjoyable.
Outstanding food and great service. Definitely somewhere to go for a special occasion.
A little on the pricey side.
Delicious, genuine Italian food starting with amazing sourdough bread, prosciutto and mozzarella. Homemade pasta was made by a genuine chef from Modena, Italy. Top quality Italian food!
I was dining alone. I had a booking (so not a walk in) but was placed at, by far, the worst table in the restaurant. I was next to a swinging door that entered the kitchen. There were several tables in the restaurant that were in a lovely position that were unoccupied the whole time I was there. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and vibe and is quiet, but I didn’t get to enjoy any of that.
The waitress was one of those with a haughty, I’m better than you, feel about her. She hardly spoke with me.
Food absolutely delicious- spaghetti with mussels and melt in your mouth home made bread. Wine average.
Wouldn’t go back there if you paid me.
Food was great, pasta cooked to perfection and the bread is to die for. We loved this restaurant.
A somewhat patchy experience here.
Most of the food was lovely. In particular, the cavolfiore and eggplant entrees were fantastic, and the tortelloni was outstanding (among the best pasta dishes we’d ever had). Unfortunately the sardines didn’t taste very fresh, and the risotto while tasting ok had rubbery scallops.
The service was a bit up and down: bordering on rude by the girl at the door when we arrived, but improved substantially with the charming young man who took care of us throughout the night.
Overall an enjoyable dining experience, but could do with a few improvements which would make it wonderful.
We had the $79 tasting menu, which is good value. The first course was a sardine course with a side of eggplant. The sardine didn’t taste fresh or particularly interesting and the eggplant was soggy. A plate of cured meats followed which we really enjoyed. The tomato and ricotta pasta looked great and would have been delicious if not over smoked and our main of pork was average and a little tough. We were disappointed and not likely to return.
Fantastic food but again we were seated in a corner and completely forgotten about. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and you easily have a conversation but unfortunately if you are not positioned in front of a waiter, you can wait for sometime to be served.
I apologise for the criticism.
We had our Christmas lunch and the food and service was outstanding. Well done to everyone.
Great ambience, consistently high quality food. A unique restaurant.
Good service, great food, byo Mon thru Wed. Authentic Italian.
Everything we ordered was delicious and service was just right.
Great service. Great food. A bit noisy
Having visited Trattoria Emilia some years ago, I'd forgotten just how fantastic it is. We were seated in the mezzanine with lots of light - a great spot for lunch. Service was warm and friendly. And the food - it was spectacular. We enjoyed the antipasti platter with moreish white bat fitters, tender vitello tonnato, light arancini as well as bacilla, eggplant melanzane and a flavoursome spinach pie. It was the perfect start to the meal.
I had mortadella and veal tortelloni for main which was stunningly fresh with beautifully thin pasta. My father had spaghetti vongole - equally fresh and flavoursome.
It was just sensational food and I'll be going back again soon!!
Mostly excellent food served by an outstanding waitress who not only explained the menu options clearly but also had an excellent knowledge on the extensive wine list.
The whole restaurant experience was terrific. We were early so didn’t experience any problem with noise. Main courses were all flavoursome. The fish special was lovely if a bit small. We decided the chocolate desserts were not nearly as good as the tiramisu. Service was good. We’ll be back.
Exceptional as usual, the food is always of such a high calibre.
The setting great, the service good, the wine selection excellent, the entre ok but both risottos Luke warm at best and fractionally undercooked. Sent one back to reheat. In summary average value for money.
Not my first time here and certainly not my last. The food is very good, tasty and fresh. It was my guest's first time and she'll return with her husband.
Great food, service was quick and friendly. Will definitely be back.
Excellent and authentic cucina emiliana. The gnocco fritto with salumi and the tortelloni brought us back to Modena. Monday nights is BYO, so for a very moderate corkage charge, you can bring a special bottle, which I would strongly recommend.
We celebrated my sons 21st with small family gathering at Trattoria Emilia. This was a first visit. Sensational and knowledgeable service, divine pasta, fabulous bread and a terrific ambiance. They even managed to provide a small cake and candle when we put in a last minute request. We’ll definitely be back!
Food very good and staff very friendly. Good value.
Group of 4 for catch-up. Attentive service beginning to end. Food was fresh and tasty. One star off for espresso at end of meal being cold (warm the cup!).
Visiting the lovely Melbourne from Sydney we were so pleased to have booked a table here. We had a fabulous dinner. Loved the food, the ambiance, the attentive and friendly service from Christie and other staff, overall a really enjoyable evening.
We look forward to returning in the future.
Delicious Italian cuisine. Loved the menu options and the owner Matteo was extremely helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the pace of the delivery of the courses. We were offered a Lemoncello to round of the lunch which was a lovely touch.
Trattoria Emilia is a little tricky to find hidden down a side alley off Little Collins St however it was well worth seeking it out.
We shared the antipasto for 1 which was terrific with lots of unusual tasting surprises followed by two pasta dishes which were also very good.
The house wine was more than adequate and the service cheerful and efficient.
Everything made for a very enjoyable lunch and then off to the nearby Sky Bus for my flight back to Sydney.
Not many places for a Saturday business lunch nearby, but it was good. Quieter than on a weekday.
being there before.
My partner and I enjoyed he 5 course chef selected menu. Wait staff and chef were very accommodating to my request to not include duck and oysters in the courses offered, with no hesitation. Fantastic ambience, AMAZING food, great wine list and service was excellent. Will absolutely return! Highly recommended
Every time we dine here the food, wine and customer service is exceptional.
the food is fabulous and love the space but no one wants to be seated staring at a wall all night and better air-con please
Specials are always great too
This one of my favourite city restaurants. I introduced 2 friends to the latest experience and they were as impressed as I always am. Organising a family get together in November!
I go there every second week, and was looking for trying the new spring menu.
The service is absolutely friendly and accurate, and food simply amazing. The pork belly with salsa verde and mostarda was delicious, can’t wait to be back there to try the rest of the new menu!
Miss the trippa. Food extremely tasty. Prices seem to be getting on high side. But still a very good atmosphere/ambience, and good choice.
Great restaurant lovely staff
Excellent Service and food
They double booked me so whilst sitting enjoying our first relaxing drink my mobile rang!!! Having answered it, the obvious caller was but 5 metres away wondering where I was for my booking.
Having said that, it is a nice relaxing spot, albeit somewhat hidden, with a nice ambience.
We (three of us) only had one course, so to be fair, may be harsh in saying it was ok but not outstanding.
The antipasto selection was unusual and so tasty - not a morsel left. Everyone in our group enjoyed their main course and the shared accompanying salads. Highly recommend. Lovely atmosphere in the evening and so good not to need to shout at the person next to you or across the other side of the table.
