Townleys located in Albion House, right beside the sea in Ramsgate. The restaurant is composed of elegant Georgian rooms overlooking Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour and the impressive Mayors' Chamber.
Our food philosophy is to buy the best you can find and prepare dishes in a simple and uncomplicated way. Our menus change regularly and reflect the ingredients which our suppliers feel are the best on offer on the day you visit us.
Excellent food in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Had a wonderful evening....
Service was good, food was excellent and warm welcome....
Have already recommended to a friend
Booked a table for 4 for a birthday celebration, as soon as we walked in we were warmly welcomed and the staff were so lovely and friendly. The food was amazing and service was really quick even though there were quite a few other customers. We will definitely be returning and I will recommend to friends!
A firm favourite of ours, whether just for a cocktail, coffee, brunch or evening meal. Beautiful location, always helpful staff and a pleasing selection of food. We take delight in entertaining our friends here.
First visit for a meal with my partner since changes made to main area. No comfy seats now, just tables. After being seated with menus waited a while before being offered a drink. Felt disorganised as she was rushing around. Waitress was pleasant though. Mussels were good size but prawn cocktail was mostly lettuce. My pasta dish was okay but lacked flavour and felt stodgy, and side dish of green salad was a few leaves and Parmesan cheese. Steak okay, chips tasted like frozen ones. Considering we paid over £80 with wine I wouldn’t rush back. Tartar Frigate beats value for money hands down.
Just a super place to eat, drink and relax.
Smart Victorian dining hall, strangely furnished mostly with long tables capable of seating a dozen or more, we were a party of five, we got our own table but some smaller parties did have to share tables. I shared the meat and bread starter, lovely selection of pate, scotch egg, pork pie and breads were very tasty. For mains I had the pork belly, well cooked and flavoured and a good sized portions. Overall a lovely restaurant.
Lovely building, with nice decor although spoiled by big chunks of brown tape all over the floor covering some sort of plug sockets or something. Surely something more sympathetic to the decor could be found. The staff were very polite and the female waitresses very friendly. The food was lovely although our Camembert sharing starter needed a lot more bread!! My burger was cooked to perfection and my husbands chicken Kiev was lovely and all the better for being free range. The chips were sublime! Always nice when the basics are done perfectly. Shame no steak on the lunch menu though. Also very sad no mint for my mockhito.
Great restaurant and food but we were slightly forgotten by the waiters due to several large parties and waited for an hour for our food, with long waits between each course
We had cocktails and puddings which were all very delicious. It was also cocktail night so a fantastic value!!
We had a really great lunch time at Townleys on 04 September - staff friendly and efficient and ambience was very relaxing. I would have given the food 5 stars but I found the falafel in my veggie burger to be too dry. That said we are really looking forward to booking an evening meal very soon.
On a late summer Saturday early evening the food and service was excellent, but the possibility of talking without shouting was ruined by a cocktail barman who substituted crashing and bashing for skill.
In what we had hoped would be the best restaurant in Ramsgate we were disappointed by that. But then it was Saturday evening and I suppose with that oversized bar in a smallish room we should have known better.
Great venue for our birthday celebrations. Really good food, highly attentive and friendly service - a very enjoyable experience. Be prepared to pay £4.80 for parking outside the venue though...
The revised menu is less interesting than previously. And service was rather slack and careless - we had to request fingerbowls (eating mussels) and spoons etc The range of desserts was limited and unimaginative - ice cream or cheesecake...... A couple of years ago this was one of the premier places to eat in Ramsgate, with menus which were innovative and exciting. The very attractive bar ambience is still a pleasure but the quality and range of meals seems to have deteriorated while the price remains the same, or has risen.
Would book again. This was my first time and couldn’t fault anything about the service the food etc
Have been to many restaurants with the same type of menu and pricing and I feel the food was not to the standard that I would normally expect. It was ok, not outstanding. Slightly disappointed
What a gem. The building is beautiful, and a former place of rest for Queen Victoria - I can see why. The huge Regency room the restaurant is located in over looks the sea through large double doors and windows, and is decorated tastefully. The bar is well stocked, the staff were beyond friendly, and the food was delicious. It's even dog-friendly. I literally couldn't fault this place, and I will be visiting every time I pass through Ramsgate. Next time I'll be booking the Little Victoria suite for a night or two too!
Well cooked food, fresh ingredients. Staff were smashing - welcoming and attentive throughout the meal. Would recommend.
We arrived on time which always helps, greeted by 3 attentive gentlemen. Lovely table ready for us, cocktails were amazing and lucky for us 2 for £10. Service was faultless and food was divine, we had soup for starters, lamb, duck and chicken dishes for main and dessert. Music was appropriate to the venue and not too obtrusive. Service was attentive but not over the top. We were the only table for about 40mins so we did have their undivided attention but it looked like the restaurant was under control as it filled up. Well done you guys, myself and my two daughters had a lovely evening and our compliments to the chef. We shall return .
Three of us had our breakfast at Townley's - two Townley's full English breakfasts and one pancakes with syrup. The full English breakfast was perfect - crispy bacon and piping hot sausages. It was very clean inside, the waitering staff were professional. The breakfast hall benefits form the huge antique fire place, and other period architectural fragments that make this hall unique.
We were warmly greeted at Townleys, which had a relaxed and modern atmosphere. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and couldn't have done enough. We were very surprised at the generous portion sizes of the breakfasts and the incredible choice! I would personally recommend the full breakfast. Our dinner was equally scrumptious and the cocktails were very good indeed.
When we are in Ramsgate again, we shall be revisiting!
Great food, very kind and attentive service, relaxing ambiance and just what we needed looking out to sea. Lovely.
Great food, served by friendly staff. Lovely lounge to sit and admire the view from and finish a superb bottle of wine.
The food and service was very good especialy the mussels! The only small letdown was a couple of ingrediants descrided did'nt make it onto the plate. However a really enjoyable meal/drinks.
Lovely venue , friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere . Food very good .
A disappointing evening - we were expecting a classier set up given how beautiful the building is outside. The prawn starter may well have been previously frozen or if not had not been taken out of the fridge early enough. Quite small and not much flavour. The mussels were fine but very little sauce in the bowl which is the point of mussels isn’t it ?. Good steak and venison as mains. Throughout the evening there was a 1980s disco soundtrack which was too loud and felt v discordant. There was no sense of anyone being in charge of the dining room who really cared about the experience of the people dining there. Wish we’d gone to the Falstaff or the Empire Rooms.
Brunch with friends... sweet potato hash was great, pancakes no so much so! Some very noisy children at another table but otherwise not particularly busy.
We have had lots of lovely experiences there previously.. it seems to have less and less customers. Food wasn’t as good and felt like staff were on commission and visited the table too frequently.. felt rushed. I had previously asked for the table to go back and they said no.. not sure why as there was hardly anyone there. The fine dining area seems to be no longer and the bar had fine dining prices and less comfy chairs and more tables.
What a shame I hope this is a temporary blip..
Great place to eat, spotless, nice ambience, great service. Food very good, maybe a wider lunch menu would be good but can't argue with quality of what they offer.
Nice brunch. Nothing outstanding though. Could have done with more egg choice than just poached. Could have done with some jams and not just honey and marmalade and a dish with smoked salmon in would be nice as a brunch menu.
Overall a lovely evening with excellent food & service.
They have a small menu which I looked at on line before I booked and there was enough on it for an enjoyable meal. When we arrived one of the starters was not available as was one of the mains which was a shame.
We had a good time anyway
Food was excellent as usual.
Lovely place to be.
Food was almost very good. The lamb meatballs for example were delicious but for half the plate to be taken up by a fairly plain salad was disappointing. The salad had been exactly the same for my starter too.
My girlfriend ordered better than me. I had a bite of her vegetarian ragu which was a real winter warmer.
Fantastic atmosphere, limited menu compared with some places, but there was still a good selection. The food was great and it was good to have decent service! Would definitely return, even tho it's an hour away for us.
We come here fairly often....have done so since opening...we like the food, we like the people....easy to park...good if we want to bring a dog along.....
LOVE Townleys have been on more than one occasion....slight grip this visit...did not have a friendly or helpful greeting in reception on arrival....which was disappointing as We had reserved table....however bar staff and restaurant staff were lovely ....and as always had fab meal /visit...
The service was really friendly and outstanding with staff very welcoming and helpful.
Restaurant has no ambience. Menu was small and limited and out of this small selection a starter, main and desert not available thus witling the choice down even further. Overall the hotel and restaurant are very classy and in a great spot but unfortunately the food does not match the sophistication. In my opinion it was lacking taste and presentation – such a shame as I had high hopes!
