Touche Hombre Ratings and Reviews
I noticed this place has been rated in the urban list of Mexican eatery’s in Melbourne and decided it would be a great location for my partner n I to celebrate a birthday.
We where late for our booking due to traffic but didn’t receive a third degree about it , quite the opposite , seating was ample at the time , the staff where friendly and personable and our orders for drinks and food where taken swiftly and nothing disappointed.
The margaritas where top notch and creative and the food was delicious and creative.
The stand out would have to be the fatty lamb ribs, fall off the bone and delicious.
Looking forward to taking a large group to this establishment and having a few drinks and a great feed.
Drinks are over priced except when half price happy hour is available - awesome!
Chicken tacos - very tasteless and boring.
Lamb tacos - OMG AMAAAAAZING!
Everything in my friend and I's opinion could have a little more seasoning.
Cocktails are great and fresh.
Will go back for the lamb tacos, they were an absolute stand out.
I don't like to leave negative feedback and I rarely think there is an occasion to leave it. However, the service was incredibly unwelcoming. Not rude or unpleasant but just the general feel. We didn't feel welcome, taking out order was a bother and nothing about the experience was personal. Maybe they were having a bad night. We will be back to try again.
We went with a group of 8.
The tacos were delicious, I preferred the lamb over the octopus though others on my table enjoyed the octopus too.
The tortilla chips were a bit hard but the guac is fresh and delish... We ran out of tortillas so the lovely waitress brought us more to have with remaining guac.
Service overall was good. Friendly and attentive.
Dessert was not the strong point. Wish there was more options.
Would definitely go back though.
After a second sojourn into Touche Hombre I am hooked. The food is delicious, not too rich and not over the top. The menu has enough variety, but doesn't overwhelm you with choices, and for meat eaters the lamb ribs are freaking amazing!
The traditional tacos are gluten free - but if like me you can't have fructose keep an eye out for items with onion and beans to avoid turning into a hot air balloon. There are plenty of options though, and they are willing to change things for you.
Lastly, the service is exceptionally good and goes above what you would expect. The servers are friendly, chatty, and on-the-ball making sure you're taken care of during your entire visit.
Took our kids 7 and 17. We were the only family there but staff were great. Food was nice. Ribs and special taco were favourites. Atmosphere was buzzing. If you are a "taco bills" typa family, I wouldn't recommend. If you are a "cheap dumplings on a shared table in a noisy restaurant" typa family, I'd definitely recommend. Really good night.
The food was okay, nothing great. What was most disappointing was the Mexican Fried Chicken.
It was bland and didn't 'sing' of anything particular cuisine really. Had a hint of chili or some spice been added to it would have helped add the 'zing' that was missing.
I am not sure that I am fit to leave a review for this restaurant for the following reason; we booked the table on the night of the booking and (after receiving a confirmation email) based our Melbourne CBD movements on our anticipation of eating at this establishment.
We proceeded from a venue "6 minutes" away (according to GPS maps) with 10 minutes to spare, and with plenty of time before our booking arrived at Touche Hombre to be greeted by closed doors.
Whilst I am still quite keen to experience the restaurant, I feel I cannot make fair judgement based on a booking error whereby a table was held for us on a night they did not trade. (3 star ratings given so as to not diminish rarings unfairly)
Touche Hombre and Open Table both need to get their acts together.
I have been living in Europe for two years and returned to Melbourne for the festive season. When catching up with friends and family I wanted to hit up all of my old favourites, including Touche Hombre. In order to do this I made a few reservations online, using Open Table to book Touche Hombre on the 29th of December. Open Table confirmed and reminded me of my booking, but when I arrived at Touch Hombre I discovered that it was closed. Open Table then had the nerve to ask me to review my experience at Touche Hombre.
Touche Hombre, you need to tell Open Table when you're closed so they don't take bookings when you aren't open.
Open Table, you shouldn't automatically make a booking without confirming it with the restaurant.
I will now never use Open Table again, and I will likely never return to Touche Hombre. I was bitterly disappointed, if not rather annoyed.
I loved the dining experience here, the food is always amazing and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends, and have done so already. The gentleman that was serving me (with a French/Canadian accent) was excellent and added to the experience.
