Tonic Restaurant @ Quigley's Pharmacy Ratings and Reviews
The first floor may appeal to the youthful crowd (outdoor, bar, and stool seating), but I appreciate the elevator, and the second floor table dining without mosquitoes and flies buzzing about and nipping at my blood. My guests cleaned their plates of the quinoa salad. I had the crab cakes. they were tasty as was the corn and asparagus side.
I had driven by the this place the whole summer I was working in DC and it had always been buzzing with energy- it was past time that I tried it out. I went during happy hour, which was perfect!, I got a few apps and drinks. I sat outside, too. The tots were definitely worth it!! You get so many you need at least 3 people to finish the basket they give you. Try it out!
Don't skip the tots...EVER.
I hold business lunches here at least once a month and have never been disappointed. Great location, fantastic menu, attentive staff...what else could you ask for?
If you're in the neighborhood, don't miss out. And by the way, did I mention not to skip their TOTs?
Next time I would skip the tator tots. Two of us had entree salads that were very good. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The place was crowded and had a lively vibe. We were dining pre-Kennedy Center. It's about a 15 min. walk, but easy enough if the weather is good and you're able.
They push the tater tots, which are indeed yummy. Don't make the mistake I did, which is ordering a heavy entree afterward. I got mac and cheese with mushrooms and carmelized onions, which was delicious but too much. They brought the salad and entree at the same time, and before we'd finished our tots, which irked me.
Very disappointing. Food has gone downhill while prices have gone up. Asked to have price adjusted for salad because ordered without salmon and yet was charged full price because manager refused to adjust. Apparently not interested in happy customers. Will be scratching Tonic off my list.
It was our first time to D.C. So we chose this based off reviews. And they were generous. The food was average, nothing spectacular. We sat outside and that was nice, but I think because we were outside our server forgot about us. Over all this place was average. Nothing special that the other reviews made it out to be. Also our meals came out before the appetizers, but had to go back anyway. Every plate was wrong.
Loved this place! It's a cute little college bar we happened to find when our original pick was too full to take more customers. Would definitely recommend for a casual and filling dinner. They have either avocado or pesto on almost anything which is also a plus.
The restaurant had plenty of outdoor seating, a big plus on a nice summer night. Our waiter was polite, but not very good. We had to ask him multiple time for items that we wanted/needed. He also did not split our checks correctly at the end of the meal. My dinner of a mushroom burger was pretty good, but my friends ordered a turkey burger and said their buns were stale. Overall, nice location and good menu, but poor service.
Restaurants face challenges - what is telling is how they handle those challenges. My friend and I work in the area, and often, sometimes weekly, walk the two blocks to Tonic for lunch. We encountered a new (to us) waiter and a new menu. Tonic changes their menu seasonally. Unusually for us, we both ordered items from the menu with no changes. My friend's salad looks different each time she orders it, so it was not a surprise. The meal I received was not the one I ordered. It took the waiter a long time to reach the table and to check back with us - and we pointed out how my meal differed from the description in the menu. Off the waiter went to the kitchen and returned with two of the items that may have belonged on the item I ordered - in the meantime, my meal was cold. I sent it back. It took forever to return, however, it was brought to me by a manager who apologized and removed the cost of both meals from the bill. The response was the correct one, and kudos to Tonic for doing the right thing. I can only imagine that being a waiter is tough - and being new at a job with a menu change has to be really challenging. The poor waiter was overwhelmed, and one wonders if there was a way to pull him off the floor and have him wrap silverware or something. Again, kudos to Tonic for the way they handled the situation . I will probably return to Tonic, but perhaps not next week - I'll give the new menu and the waiter a chance to settle in before we venture back.
I thought the food was ok but nothing to write home about. Breakfast tots are the main attraction here, and yes they were good just not "oh my god I want to come back" good.
I'm sure this place is great for locals we drove 25 min to try it after a recommendation. So eat there if in the neighborhood.
We cancelled a booking at Founding Farmers and came here. We liked the upstairs dining area as the tables weren't on top of each other. Could have done with cushions on the hard benches but hey, we weren't there for a lifetime. Thought the portions were good bordering on generous. The food arrived hot and was tasty. We were very happy overall.
Disappointing meal, lovely setting!
Quaint building (former pharmacy) and nice patio with shade to eat outside. Food was however a let down (omelette had sliced cheese slapped on top, just a bit melted but not stirred in, and steak slices were pale and sad looking!), no PB on table (only cafeteria style single serving), etc. When we asked the waitress for recommendation, her answer was that she usually sleeps in and doesn't eat breakfast.... Lame sell.
We came here about 2 yr ago on our trip and loved it so much we came back this trip. We had a reservation for 5pm and arrived at 4:30pm. Hostess told us dining room didn't open till 5, but we could have drinks and apps in lounge or patio. We sat in lounge and happy hour was fantastic. We had nachos and tator tots. Huge portions. Drinks and apps were on happy hour. Super cheap! We actually stayed there for our dinner. We split the pulled pork Mac-n-cheese. It was HUGE and scrumptious. My husband and I barely finished half.
