Always good value for money, my only problem is they never had our booking from Opentable, lucky they were still able to fit us in!!!!

We had an early lunch booking at 12.30. However, the food wasnt hot cold and plates were cold.

Everything was fine, they’re so attentive and professional. The staff was so friendly.

Although I’m a fairly regular visitor, today was exceptionally bad. Having booked a table for 4.30 I was told the bookings should have been turned off and told I would have to wait half an hour along with others. When finally getting a table, the queues were double what I’ve ever seen before which meant another half an hour stood up. No explanations, no apologies. I will avoid weekends again and stick to weekdays if I venture there again.

My husband and I went to the Toby for dinner with 2 friends. I ordered a vegetarian meal and was told by our very nice waitress that it would be ready in 5-10 minutes. We waited at least 15 minutes before going to the carvery. While we were queuing for the others to get their carvery my waitress appeared with a plate and told me I didn’t need to queue and could go straight away to get the vegetables although my meal still wasn’t ready. As always I was given a square plate (to indicate a vegetarian meal although I’ve never understood why as the cost is the same as for a carvery) and as always it was stone cold. I asked her for a hot plate and was told that the square plates are never heated whereas the round ones are. This is too ridiculous for words, the vegetables are invariably only lukewarm and to put them on a very cold plate means eating a cold meal which is horrible. The person carving the meat eventually went to heat up a plate for me and I went to collect my vegetables. On returning to the table the meal was not there and after a few minutes we asked the waitress if it was ready. She replied that it still wasn’t ready and in fact when she brought the food I had completely finished eating the vegetables. I pointed this out (having been initially told it would be ready in 5 minutes) and she laughed and said I could go to get more vegetables. Obviously I didn’t want to eat 2 plates of vegetables. Is it not possible to provide a main course and vegetables at the same time and on a hot plate? We do feel that the quality of food and service has deteriorated in the many years we have been eating at the Toby Inn.

Carvery was lovely, staff friendly. Not much of a queue to get carvery, Could sit outside if wanted too. Lots of seats only issue lots of stairs to toilets but bit of exercise after that carvery 😊

Good, prompt service. Food was good. But it did get very busy which means a long queue for your food.
Loved the £85 parking fine 2 weeks later.

We sat in the middle of the restaurant with a very noisy table behind us with lots of children which is really not a problem but it was tight to get past the table and the mess on the floor around our table and their table was terrible.
We did ask to be moved but were told that there were no other tables available even though there were a lot of empty table around, so we had our meal and went which was a shame as it was for a special occasion but we couldn't hear ourselves talk.

The food was cold and dried out. To much like school dinners the service was really good

Lovely Sunday lunch. The all important desserts are delicious. Very reasonably priced too! Would definitely go back.

We usually visit at 1pm but this time we went later at 3pm. It was much better, less people queuing for food. The food was excellent as always

Lovely food great value for money if there was any think that was a negative it would be the man serving the food when u go get your carvery could smile

veg always too undercooked. this week's visit particularly blood running out of the lamb and no greens or cabbage. My wife is vegetarian and you've taken off the pomegranate tartlet which is what she's always ordered and the Rice Pudding which again she always orders I'm beginning to wonder is it worth it anymore. why not consult customers b4 you start taking items off the menu. Rice is a nice pud everything else is stodge. Thank you

The overall experience was very good, it was only spoiled by the fact that despite booking through OpenTable previously and receiving confirmation the Toby had no notification of the booking and didn't have a table for us. The manager was excellent and rearranged bookings to accommodate us.

Far to busy had to stand in a cue for 20 minutes food was good

It's a Toby Carvery......not much else can be said although it is the best we ever have been to. Always busy but the food is consistently good.

Booked a table which was very east todo. The food was hot and very well prepared.

Food was exactly what you expect from a Carvery. Timed it just right as we had no queueing, five minutes later and the queue for Carvery was at least twelve people long!
Our pudding was spoilt with cold custard and the waitress offered to get another but we declined and wasn't charged. All staff were extremely pleasant.

After dining the week before, we returned expecting the same experience, what a difference a week makes. There was no one at the reception desk and we waiting for about 10 mins before some one came. We queued to receive our food, but all the sauces and gravy pots where empy and there was no one to refill, after waiting at least 5 mins our food was cold.

When we arrived they didn’t have our reservation made in open table and the staff were quite rude about this.
Waiting staff were very busy and quite miserable.

Pleasant surroundings. Good food. Convenient and good value.

Lovely lunch excellent variety of vegetables I took my dad and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Tony Carvery excellent as always but they had no knowledge of my booking!!!
We were only a party of three but had it been a large group for something special then we could have had a problem.
The man booking us in said “I suppose you booked with open table”
So I recommend Toby at Crook Log but not booking with open table

We arrived to be told that there was no record of our booking, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table! Luckily the restaurant was not overly busy.
Carver was great as usual.

Very comfortable with delicious food and nice wines. Very reasonable priced.
Biggest problem is the ladies toilets which are disgusting and have been for a long time. Desperately in need of new everything!

Every Christmas we meet our friends for a meal at Toby. As we are oaps, it is affordable. The food is first class and the staff so friendly and helpful. Well done Toby Crook log.

What I didn’t like is the new parking rules, only can stay 3 hours max if you go by car ..... very poor show

Our visit on 24 November was disappointing. We've eaten many times at Crook Log but we hadn't eaten here for a few months prior to this visit. I booked on line and made a special request which wasn't passed to the restaurant. They were able to accommodate us though which was fortunate. The vegetables weren't hot , we spoke to our server who did offer to change them but we were in a rush. The meat, Yorkshire and gravy were delicious.
