Thousand Pound Wine Store
Victoria’s wine canteens are a rapidly growing regional obsession amongst city barflies.
Grape aficionados haven't retreated into their cellars to sulk, they are venturing out of town
to find the best boutique sip three hours north of Melbourne.
Reinventing the grape genre, Thousand Pound tosses out stuffy pretences,
blurring the boundaries between city and country into an underserved hood,
creating funky, affordable vin lists paired with Simon Arkless’s chef-driven fare.
Sip and swirl your way through the best wines the region has to offer or venture
globally from your seat at the bar.
Meals available from 5.30pm to 9.30pm
Great food great service. we had a group booking of 10 and really enjoyed ourselves.
Fantastic food, great quality wine menu, unique variety, sevice is excellent . The whole experience at this restaurant is of high professionalism .. Highly reccomend .
Once again we had a fantastic night of food, wine and great company.
Bec was a fantastic hostess and the service from Eliza & Dennis was an added bonus.
Thousand Pound won the Best Small Bar Vic/Tas and I can certainly see why.
The decor is very cool, the ambience is warm, the food was out of this world scrumptious, the wine list is huge and the staff are fabulous. Even the amenities are lovely.
Perfectly cooked steak and fish, beautifully presented, savory sauces. Just yum.
Great restaurant with a simple but interesting menu. Worth the drive to Rutherglen for the meat dishes.
The excellent dining experience was enhanced by the friendly and professional service of our waiter Jason who we again saw at All Saints Terrace restaurant on the Sunday.
The steaks were cooked perfectly and recommendations for accompanying wines (as expected) were spot on.
Excellent food, wine and service , great night will definitely be back
Appetisers good and steak melt in the mouth fabulous. Excellent list of local wines and fortified’s to finish. Friendly, welcome proficient service.
Really good place to eat....tasty food, passionate staff and lovely wines.
Absolutely beautiful. We plan to come back. Steak cooked perfectly.
A great little find in the fabulous town of Rutherglen.
Great place to dine with a refined menu. Staff were very friendly and we were able to chat and laugh freely with them. The interior decor is wonderful and was a very pleasant vibe going on whilst dining there. Loved the night we had there and would highly recommend it.
Great selection of wines and spirits. Dinner was amazing, we had steak and it was cooked just right and very tender. Lots of people in this night so the place had a very festive atmosphere. Highly recommend for a fun night with friends who enjoy good food and wine.
A restaurant with a great ambience and you feel you could be in a city restaurant. Good food and great staff
We took friends from London here and they loved every moment of it, said it was a highlight of the trip
We love this little wine bar/restaurant. The staff are fantastic, the atmosphere buzzy, and it's the best steak in the region! Love the Haloumi entree as well. Thanks for a lovely night.
This place is a little treasure in Rutherglen. The atmosphere is great and a nice place to dine or just meet up with friends for a drink.
Enjoyed our meal. Some feedback I ordered the gnocchi and it stated pumpkin purée, it did not come with it and was not informed it was parsnip. Also my husband could not get a cab sav or Shiraz by the glass to have with his steak which was very dissatisfying. The waitress did not explain the menu to us
Great service and food. A real gem in Rutherglen. Excellent wine list too!
Great wine selection, inviting decor and good food. The service is also great!
A wonderful meal once again, at such a great venue.
Love this restaurant. Service is great as are the streaks. However, on the last 2 occasions dining at Thousand Pound our steaks were luke warm when they arrived at the table. Desserts were great too.
Great atmosphere, great staff and great food- what more could you want!!
Great relaxed catch up with friends. Staff were extremely friendly, attentive and friendly. Whilst the menu wasn't comprehensive, there was variety and everything was delicious. The wine and drinks list was extensive. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed and informal meal with friends.
We made a same day Friday night reservation after receiving several recommendations to this restaurant from locals. Our charcuterie plate was superb followed by a wonderful steak cooked perfectly. We received great advice re the local wines from our waitress who also provided some local info re wineries in the area. Interesting restaurant, great food, wine and service, and an atmosphere which was just perfect. The produce seemed to be mostly sourced locally and there was a good selection of local wines and craft beers. Highly recommend dining here, and suggest making a reservation. It is on the Main Street of Rutherglen, a town worth exploring in itself.
Nice ambience, great steaks. Must try the Rutherglen on the rocks cocktail.
Absolutely delicious!!! The steak was heaven! The wine list was an amazing display of the best in the area. The staff know their stuff and really add to the meal.
Delicious meals and fantastic service. Gets a little noisey when crowded. Highly recommend the steak!
Great place, excellent ambiance, good food, fab drinks
Spot on steaks, great service!!
Nice venue, really chilled out place.
Keen to get back there as soon as we can, highly recommended it:)
Always good, very consistent and we enjoy having a meal either on our own or with friends
A fabulous wine bar. A real gem. Great food, great atmosphere, great service.
A good fun 'city meets country' feel. Venue was really good and staff were very attentive and happy to engage with guests. A really good night and a pleasant surprise.
Great that the chef could convert a menu item to Vegan, however more vegetarian/vegan options would be awesome.
Hard to read menu in dim lighting.
Sophisticated and friendly restaurant with great food and wine. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Staff were very friendly and approachable and the porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection and fantastic tasting.
Good food and an excellent wine list focussed on local family owned wineries with a decent selection of wines from other areas. Reasonably priced wines for the quality.
We greatly enjoyed our meal. The menu is small but carefully chosen, and the steaks were delicious. If we holiday again in Rutherglen we will definitely be back!
We joined some friends from Melbourne for dinner and we were all very impressed with the decor and the ambience. The wine list is extensive and they are happy to let you taste the wine before ordering a bottle. Our waitress was delightfully and really new her stuff. Entrees were fabulous especially the scallops. Main pasta was really tasty as was the fish of the day. My only criticism is that the fish only came with cauliflower puree and a sprig of watercress. If it had a green added it would have been perfect. Over all we had a great night and will certainly be back.
