Thousand Pound Wine Store Ratings and Reviews
We went to Thousand Pound from reviews from trip advisor.
We had the special cut steak. It was cooked perfectly and the rosemary butter was lovely. It was a very cold night and we all would of enjoyed seasonal vegetables. We could only have fries and salad. Which was a bit ordinary. The table we had was in an alley way and it was quite cool as there was group party in warmer area. Overall the wait staff were helpful and friendly. Steak was off the richter, great!
Another beautiful dinner at Thousand Pound, this time for DH birthday. Again, the chef was able to accommodate a fussy vegetarian eater, and I couldn't have been happier. The bar was rocking, as it was Tastes of Rutherglen weekend, but the service didn't miss a beat. Fast, Friendly, and Fun. We'll be back for sure.
This is the place to experience the best wines the area has to offer and the food is wonderful. If you can't find a red wine here that matches the excellent steak, you won't find it anywhere. Very friendly staff who want to make sure you enjoy your experience, from the ultra-casual "sit outside" to the comfortably bustle of the main room or the quiet candle light of the side alcove.
If you stay in the area and don't dine here at least once, you have missed out on a quintessential Rutherglen experience.
Service was attentive but not intrusive, from first entry until departure. love the extensive and imaginative Wine List. Shared plates then mains, of very good quality.
Only, and small matter, was the stools little uncomfortable after a period of time for those of us a certain age - perhaps chairs in 'laneway'. But, overall, looked & felt great for a wine / tapas experience next time.
Good food, extensive drinks menu, some good alternatives to All Saints wines too.
Some staff members are very good at their jobs, some are not. Not ok to be told that an order didn't turn up simple because 'I didn't put it in'. An honest 'sorry' might have been well timed..
One staff member was delightful - and heartfully apologetic when something that wasn't digestible was found in a drink. She immediately sorted the situation with light hearted humour, great service skills and earnestness and ensured it was followed up when the bill was being paid.
Nice food - some steak a little heavy on the char though.
Nice place - nice atmosphere.
Its probably just me but the place is NOISY (can I make the font larger). Put some carpet tiles down or maybe even some dividers between the diners in the long room. I'm getting old I guess but tables full of people who shout just to converse is NOT for me. I'm all for fun but bloody hell...
Also it would be nice to know before-hand if there are group bookings in the restaurant because its them that make the massive noise most often. Having said that there was a group of either 4 or six sitting near the window in the long narrow room that were unbelievably noisey. I was waiting for the EPA to show up. Lets face it they book teenagers for quieter car stereos. Perhaps a noise-proof rubber room can be booked for either that kind of bunch or those who just want to spend a quiet evening meal with their loved one or close friends. The food was great, the wine was great, the service excellent. Kudos to all the girls. I know its early days and you are pressed for room but I do wonder whats out back that may provide a more 'intimate' dining experience.
