Thousand Pound, ahead of the trend.
Victoria’s wine canteens are a rapidly growing regional obsession amongst city barflies.
Grape aficionados haven't retreated into their cellars to sulk, they are venturing out of town
to find the best boutique sip three hours north of Melbourne.
Reinventing the grape genre, Thousand Pound tosses out stuffy pretences,
blurring the boundaries between city and country into an underserved hood,
creating funky, affordable vin lists paired with Simon Arkless’s chef-driven fare.
Sip and swirl your way through the best wines the region has to offer or venture
globally from your seat at the bar.

Consistently great!
The reassuring part about returning to a favourite is that you know what to expect - and the team have it spot on!

I visit thousand pound often and have never been disappointed. It’s well worth the 30 minute drive from where I live. Despite my most recent visit where I was almost 30 minutes past my booking time (and very apologetic for being so late) the staff were lovely and gracious. I would high recommend dining here.

Great food but very noisy by 6.30pm! Expensive but will return and request a seat in the smaller section away from large tables

We enjoy Thousand Pound, and return regularly. Only suggestion for improvement and congruency of a good 'Wine Bar' experience, would be to have a temperature controller for red wines, so that reds can be served at moderate drinking temperatures (18-21 degrees), rather than serving red wine at room temperatures of 28-30 degrees as is the case in summer. Our wines were served boiling hot. Waiter was very understanding and apologetic - he understood.

I love the delicious food, local wine and vibrant atmosphere of Thousand Pound Wine Bar! The Porterhouse steak was the best I've ever eaten and we loved the Scion Syrah. If you're looking for beautiful local wines and innovative tasty food I highly recommend visiting Thousand Pound Wine Bar. They were also able to do gluten free options and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Love it!

Thousand Pound won the Best Small Bar Vic/Tas and I can certainly see why.

The decor is very cool, the ambience is warm, the food was out of this world scrumptious, the wine list is huge and the staff are fabulous. Even the amenities are lovely.

The excellent dining experience was enhanced by the friendly and professional service of our waiter Jason who we again saw at All Saints Terrace restaurant on the Sunday.

The steaks were cooked perfectly and recommendations for accompanying wines (as expected) were spot on.

We love this little wine bar/restaurant. The staff are fantastic, the atmosphere buzzy, and it's the best steak in the region! Love the Haloumi entree as well. Thanks for a lovely night.

Enjoyed our meal. Some feedback I ordered the gnocchi and it stated pumpkin purée, it did not come with it and was not informed it was parsnip. Also my husband could not get a cab sav or Shiraz by the glass to have with his steak which was very dissatisfying. The waitress did not explain the menu to us

We made a same day Friday night reservation after receiving several recommendations to this restaurant from locals. Our charcuterie plate was superb followed by a wonderful steak cooked perfectly. We received great advice re the local wines from our waitress who also provided some local info re wineries in the area. Interesting restaurant, great food, wine and service, and an atmosphere which was just perfect. The produce seemed to be mostly sourced locally and there was a good selection of local wines and craft beers. Highly recommend dining here, and suggest making a reservation. It is on the Main Street of Rutherglen, a town worth exploring in itself.
