Totally enjoyed our dinner at Thousand pound and will return in future.
My only issue woukld be the chairs/stools need to be a little more comfotable to sit in.
Anyone with a back issue would not be able to sit for a long time.
The experience and food are always excellent and we always enjoy dining there
Fantastic food and ambiance. The service was very friendly and the wait time between entree and main was perfect. We loved sitting in the little side alley, it was romantic and not too noisy. The staff were very good and knowledgeable and made our dining experience special for us. Won't hesitate to go back again for a special or even not-so-special occasion. Thanks!
A very pleasant experience. Will definitely return at another time.
Beautiful setting, service was absolutely amazing. The steak was so tender, 100% recommend. A+
What an amazing find on our weekend trip to Rutherglen! The ambience was brilliant, the service exceptional, the wine list really impressive and the food very good. We liked that one has the option of choosing a number of smaller share plates rather than necessarily having to order large meals. However on this occasion, after a day of driving, we decided we were justified in ordering main meals!! Two of our group had steak and declared it cooked to perfection and really tasty. I had the seared tuna which was an absolutely delicious meal - a truly fantastic combination of flavours! We ended off with the panacotta, which also was particularly good 😊 I can heartily recommend a meal here. We will certainly be back when we are next in the area!
Loved the ambiance, restaurant not too loud that you can't chat with your friends. the food was absolutely delicious.
my wife and I dined here friday 26th the atmosphere and food were outstanding . the service was informative, great rundown on menu by staff and were very good without being to much in your face . we will return when in rutherglen again. we also think this is best restaurant in town.
Steak was melt in the mouth with the red wine and shallot butter, watercress salad partnered well.
just a damn fine place for a feed. we return every time we are in the vicinity. loved by the whole family
Fabulous setting, service & food! We loved the whole experience at Thousand Pound Wine Store & would recommend to anyone in the area!
First time eating there, visiting Rutherglen, such a great spot in what was otherwise a very quiet country town. Glad we booked in advance as every table was full. Would really recommend steak with truffle butter and a bottle of durif.
Need to deaden the noise accustom baffles would help, otherwise ambience five star.
Would reccomened thousand pound for anyone and everyone that loves food and wine both were amazing and the service was excellent
This is the second time we have dined at this lovely little restaurant. It's our new favourite for when we think we need a treat. The menu is excellent, ingredients are top quality. The wines are well matched to food choices but not too much emphasis is placed on this so you still feel like the decision is yours! Staff are courteous and friendly and service is very good. See you again soon.
Walked in the door and were greeted by friendly staff. They were attentive to our needs throughout the night.
We started with Oysters, Zucchini Flowers and fresh baguette accompanied with smoked butter. We also had Lamb croquettes. Divine!
For mains we thoroughly enjoyed the petite tender and succulent Hanger Steak with Blue cheese Butter. They were cooked to perfection!
We enjoyed a bottle of locally produced chilled crisp Marsanne.
Dessert was to die for. Well worth the drive to a cute country town.
Great atmosphere with mood lighting and music. Good service but food was a disappointment
Loved the vibe of the place even though it was a quiet night.Staff were great. The meals are well priced but a tiny bit of colour in the "salad" would be an improvement.
Food and service were excellent and had a great selection of both food and wine. Unfortunately it was too noisy to get together with friends for a chat over a meal. Fine if you are standing at the bar but difficult when you are seated at a table and have to continually yell across the table so they can hear you.
The food was exceptional along with the ambience of the restaurant and look forward to visit again!
Best steak I've ever had at a restaurant.
Extensive wine list.
Food is very good and a fantastic spot in a small country town. Only open weekend evenings but our group has made it a major part of our annual winery & cycling weekend.
The wine list is superb and have a few gems by the glass.
Only thing I would love to see would be some better options for starters, especially for dietary challenged (could be chicken skewers or lamb spring rolls)
We always have a great time!!
Great food beautifully prepared. Ectensibe wine list with focus on local Rutherglen family wineries. Fantstic pricing mskes this a great value informal dining venue. Will be back!
Thank you for a lovely evening, which we used as a catch up with friends.
Even though it is noisy, the atmosphere is terrific and we were very well looked after. If you were vegan or vegetarian it would be advisable to notify the restaurant. There are not many options. We had a great night there. Thank you.
Absolutely loved Thousand Pound Wine Store! We went there for dinner two nights in a row and everything was delicious. Service was knowledgable and friendly too :) Can't wait to go back!
The venue was noisy making it a little hard to have a conversation BUT the service was excellent, our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. An excellent wine list and i love the way they concentrate on Family Owned. The food was outstanding, we had the steak cooked to perfection and the blue cheese butter amazing. We also had the pasta with garlic and goat cheese again delicious with the pasta cooked to perfection. Thanks and we will certainly recommend.
Food great, but venue dark and noisy. Stool seating uncomfortable for those with bad backs
I was very happy with the overall experience the steaks were perfect. No complaints.
A fantastic venue which has set the benchmark for the region.
Great atmosphere, great food, great wine list, lovely staff. Love love love this place!
Great place for a meal with friends in Rutherglen. The staff are friendly and know their business. Highly recommend for a good night with fine food and a great wine list.
Great steaks! However, unlike the last time I went to thousand pound for dinner, the waitress had no idea about the wine list or the steak sauces or anything :/
I brought out of town people and I would have appreciated more information about the food at least. No big deal in the end since everything was good and my friend picked the wine; but still!
Always a great place to catch up with friends and imbibe on good food and wine.
My friends and I were in Rutherglen for a weekend getaway. The main street of Rutherglen is quite small yet this restaurant is one you would find in Melbourne.
If you intend on eating a steak then this place is perfect, if you're a non steak person then your choices are more limited. We all had steak with different sauces and they were cooked to perfection, simple but fresh side salad and perfect fries.
The only negative was the stools we had to sit on. I really hate eating a lengthy meal on a chair that doesn't have a back. The main area of the venue at least has stools with a small back support on them, unfortunately this area was full.
Great meal, friendly staff.
Excellent restaurant, just what Rutherglen needs for young groups and older people who enjoy a venue with Class.
Food was sensational, and the service was impeccable. The downside was being jammed into an obscure laneway like area away from what looks to be a lovely place. Totally lacking of any resemblance of the advertised ambiance of the bar/restaurant. And dont get me started on the loudness of the supposed background music, thank god they eventually turned it down.
We liked the venue although with being older we found the backless stools and higher chairs uncomfortable. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We were on holiday and really enjoyed the night.
We enjoy the feel of Thousand Pound and the food is consistently very good . It is a great spot for an informal bake for money dinner. The wine list is extensive and it is good to be able to choose good wines by the glass as sometimes everyone doesn't want the same wine.
Great experience, Staff were happy friendly and professional. Atmosphere was moody but cozy i felt like i could of been anywhere in the world. It was also great sharing tables with other people the spacing between ensured you were not encroaching on anyone space but you could have a chat if you wished. Great menu something for everyone's taste but if steak is your preferred dish then Thousand Pound is a must try. Also great wine, beer and mixed drinks. Will defiantly be back.
