Thousand Pound Wine Store Ratings and Reviews
Great steaks! However, unlike the last time I went to thousand pound for dinner, the waitress had no idea about the wine list or the steak sauces or anything :/
I brought out of town people and I would have appreciated more information about the food at least. No big deal in the end since everything was good and my friend picked the wine; but still!
My friends and I were in Rutherglen for a weekend getaway. The main street of Rutherglen is quite small yet this restaurant is one you would find in Melbourne.
If you intend on eating a steak then this place is perfect, if you're a non steak person then your choices are more limited. We all had steak with different sauces and they were cooked to perfection, simple but fresh side salad and perfect fries.
The only negative was the stools we had to sit on. I really hate eating a lengthy meal on a chair that doesn't have a back. The main area of the venue at least has stools with a small back support on them, unfortunately this area was full.
Great meal, friendly staff.
Food was sensational, and the service was impeccable. The downside was being jammed into an obscure laneway like area away from what looks to be a lovely place. Totally lacking of any resemblance of the advertised ambiance of the bar/restaurant. And dont get me started on the loudness of the supposed background music, thank god they eventually turned it down.
We enjoy the feel of Thousand Pound and the food is consistently very good . It is a great spot for an informal bake for money dinner. The wine list is extensive and it is good to be able to choose good wines by the glass as sometimes everyone doesn't want the same wine.
Great experience, Staff were happy friendly and professional. Atmosphere was moody but cozy i felt like i could of been anywhere in the world. It was also great sharing tables with other people the spacing between ensured you were not encroaching on anyone space but you could have a chat if you wished. Great menu something for everyone's taste but if steak is your preferred dish then Thousand Pound is a must try. Also great wine, beer and mixed drinks. Will defiantly be back.
Staff were so lovely really relaxed and knew their craft.
The wines were spot on a great representation of the region and perfectly matched with some delicious foods.
I love you can buy a bottle of wine to take home, I go out all the time and take a photo of a bottle to find later, never can manage to find it. Great venue
We had the 63 degree egg followed by steak. The presentation, cooking and texture of each course were all really good but both courses we so over salted that we felt it ruined what would otherwise be delicious plates of food. I note other reviews have mentioned over salting as a problem.
We went to Thousand Pound from reviews from trip advisor.
We had the special cut steak. It was cooked perfectly and the rosemary butter was lovely. It was a very cold night and we all would of enjoyed seasonal vegetables. We could only have fries and salad. Which was a bit ordinary. The table we had was in an alley way and it was quite cool as there was group party in warmer area. Overall the wait staff were helpful and friendly. Steak was off the richter, great!
Another beautiful dinner at Thousand Pound, this time for DH birthday. Again, the chef was able to accommodate a fussy vegetarian eater, and I couldn't have been happier. The bar was rocking, as it was Tastes of Rutherglen weekend, but the service didn't miss a beat. Fast, Friendly, and Fun. We'll be back for sure.
This is the place to experience the best wines the area has to offer and the food is wonderful. If you can't find a red wine here that matches the excellent steak, you won't find it anywhere. Very friendly staff who want to make sure you enjoy your experience, from the ultra-casual "sit outside" to the comfortably bustle of the main room or the quiet candle light of the side alcove.
If you stay in the area and don't dine here at least once, you have missed out on a quintessential Rutherglen experience.
Service was attentive but not intrusive, from first entry until departure. love the extensive and imaginative Wine List. Shared plates then mains, of very good quality.
Only, and small matter, was the stools little uncomfortable after a period of time for those of us a certain age - perhaps chairs in 'laneway'. But, overall, looked & felt great for a wine / tapas experience next time.
