Smell the delicious smokiness of Bendigo’s only dedicated steakhouse & grill, where we use local redgum on the grill; there’s nothing quite like the flavour of meat cooked over redgum. The natural smoky flavours and aromas created by this unique timber are something truly special. In the finest tradition of steakhouses, we use locally sourced meat and the very best in fresh, regional produce.

Showcasing 350 wines, including 28 by the glass, including some seriously interesting wines curated by our inhouse Sommelier. With local wines taking pride of place, including some intriguing European offerings, plus a supporting cast of spirits, beers and other beverages, including a decent alcohol-free selection. Cocktail drinkers will be impressed with our seasonally curated list.

    The service was impeccable! The staff were friendly and helpful. My allergies and intolerances were seriously considered and I was guided through the menu so I knew what to avoid. The wine suggestion to have with the main was exceptional. The food was outstanding! We started with the sharing of the entree specials, ocean trout in squid ink baskets and Mooloolaba prawns. The prawns were great, but the ocean trout was fantastic. We then shared the main special steak and lobster with potato rosti with the cauliflower side. The steak and lobster were perfectly cooked. The steak was so tender it just melted in the mouth. The cauliflower side was really tasty. The dessert tasting plate was a great way to finish off a fabulous meal. We love dining at The Woodhouse.

    We had the 3 courses lunch menu . The food was delicious , the steak was perfection ; the service was friendly and attentive ; the atmosphere was warm and lovely . We had a wonderful lunch !!

    The service was really great. It was disappointing that our meals didn’t all come out at the same time. It was explained that the pasta dish needed to be remade as the first one had “burst”. We had ordered sides and they didn’t arrive with the steak meals, they arrived after the pasta dish and we almost finished our steaks before the sides arrived. The porterhouse had a lovely flavour but it was tough in places

    The Woodhouse Restaurant is an unexpectedly delightful find a few streets back off the main drag in Bendigo, a very real diamond in the rough, you might say. At 5.30pm on a Saturday it was already filling up and it soon became apparent to us both why. It’s great! The ambience is kinda New York speakeasy meets Paris sophisticate, dark tones, simple decor, unobtrusive but attentive staff. Vegans beware! This is a carnivore’s paradise. Aged slabs of Wagyu are on view in the entry and lobby and the smells are divine (and positively appetising). The menus are fairly simple with dishes described in simple and understandable terms. Prices are somewhat “big city” but well worth the experience. Despite the emphasis on beefsteak, I was tempted by the lamb shoulder, the pork cutlet and the blue-eye. We may have to visit again - several times maybe - to explore the menu in full. The drinks menu was also quite extensive with a good selection of local varietals. We settled on the Occams Shiraz from Heathcote, a very nice drop. We also settled on the steak; 200g O’Connor fillet for madame, 300g O’C porterhouse for me, both medium rare. Both were perfectly and expertly cooked and arrived moments after we finished our scallops it seemed. Desserts were equally delightful and I finished with a latte as I was driving. A special shout-out to Jasmine who guided us through the menus, explained some of the finer details and generally kept a watchful eye on us throughout our stay. She was warm, friendly and very knowledgeable.

    Our experience was at the Woodhouse did not disappoint, we have dined there numerous times and as always the food was excellent, staff fabulous and we thoroughly enjoyed the lobster and dessert
