The Waterside Hotel
The 'salad' was just a Cos lettuce sliced in half with a drizzle of dressing - yuck. The steak had a dollop of butter on it - yuck. Wouldn't go back.
Rooftop had great ambience, food & drink , highly recommended
Last minute NYE booking. No minimum spend, extremely helpful, great food and service and accommodated our large family including toddlers. Highly recommend.
Firstly arrived to absolute chaos, unhelpful staff no smiles or care factor. Got yelled at by a passing staff member to just order everything at the bar but be prepared for a significant wait time. No professionalism whatsoever.
We my partner and I, considered whether to walk out after this horrible reception and this was just the beginning.
Eventually found our reserved table and the dining room, a menu etc, poor experience ordering at bar took forever and then the battle to get a drink eurgh.
Food finally arrived, portion sizes meagre with food quality very poor for money charged.
Food timing ridiculous, recieved entree same time as main and was bland boring and not worth the money.
We hurriedly finished what we could of our food as was gross bitter and dont know what had been done to the poor cuisine in kitchen but basically inedible.
Left shaking our heads feeling completely sunk and stomachs churning not in a good way.
Would NOT recommend this establishment regardless anytime of the year or public holidays. No excuse for poor service food and experience.
We had a group of 10 people to celebrate a staff member leaving. Everything was fine and every one had a nice lunch. Some who had the chicken parma special thought the chicken was a bit dry.
Two orders in our group were forgotten and took ages to come in the end.
The manager was a fantastic host. He really went above and beyond.
The worst dinner experience I have had with the family.
Whilst the bar man was friendly at entry it went downhill from there.
Reasonably quiet Sunday evening approx 6:30pm
Children’s meals come with a drink, lady behind the bar had no idea. Had to explain to her and show her on the menu. Suggest very new to bar work not a great ambassador.
Ordered meals - Children’s meal $15 possibly the most expensive pub childs meals I have ever seen.
Fish n chips served in a plastic hot dog bowl/plate. How do you eat fish n chips from that? Had to get plates so we could cut up the fish and have room for the kids to eat it.
Served with tartare - my children prefer tomato sauce which we requested
Suggest the kids menu was designed by an adult with no kids
The fish was greasy and oozing oil as well as being chewy
The child’s meal came with a scoop of ice cream but we did not dare experience that
Adult meals - chicken pie with mash and vegetable
It was allegedly home made pie. What a disgrace!
A pie that looked like it was from a service station plonked on some mash potato with several Dutch carrots. The carrots not trimmed with the ends ineadable.
A soggy pastry pie, grey “chicken” inside and nothing else with a syrup type sauce drizzled over it
1 bite was enough from both of us
The kitchen hand called the manager and he instantly can over with a money refund.
He stated the pie is the best item on the menu - that’s the attitude
We ate somewhere else and enjoyed our dinner!
What a shocker!
Worst pub and food in Melbourne - don’t do it!!
I was tasked with finding a good pub meal near that end of the city for a small family dinner with two children. The overall experience was really good. The food was decent value and tasty. The staff were lovely and on the ball. But we had a pleasant time and played some pinball afterwards.
I do not like giving negative reviews, however The Waterside Hotel did not live up to it's advertised impression. We dined as a group of 4 pre a Comedy Festival show at the venue, so thought it would be convenient. On reflection, I should have complained about the quality of the food on the night. Since I was prompted to give this review, I am being very honest with it's content. I understand that this is a pub, so don't expect the ambience of a restaurant.
It was very noisy. We sat in an area described as The Bistro. The TV was loud and children were running around jumping on chairs and yelling loudly. We could not have a conversation so we moved to a different area near the main bar where it was quieter.
I ordered fish & chips. The fish itself was quite nice, chips average. A side salad was an extra $7 & consisted of iceberg lettuce, onion and radish, drowned in dressing. A $7 serve of garlic bread came out. At first I thought it looked like a baked potato, it was about that size. It was burnt with minimal butter & garlic! The Charcuterie at $18 was very average. Over $150 for 4 people was expensive for the food quality. On a positive note, the staff were friendly.
Great location with views across towards the Yarra. The dining area and bar up on the roof was fantastic and is the spot to eat and drink. Highly recommended and the staff were exceptionally friendly. Hadn't been before, but would definitely visit again. 👍👍
Saw this Hotel on Postcards. Looked good but I was very disappointed. Food warm not hot, staff didn't know about deals that were on their website and Facebook page.
Wouldn't go back.
Awful food! Not recomended at all. Fish and chips awful, burguer too.
We had the best Friday lunch experience at the Waterside - top notch service, really friendly staff who were really accommodating. Food was amazing - great pub grub and good selection of drinks for a lovely outdoor dining experience. Would recommend the Waterside to anyone for a casual feed/drinks!
Great atmosphere, food was not great but free drinks on entry! and overall was good
Food and dining experience were above average. The vip experience for New Year’s Eve was a complete waste of money. Still waiting for the glass of moet we were promised. Would not recommend for next year!
They were slammed NYE but managed it well. We chose not to go up to the roof as per our booking as the demographic was not us! Over all great refit, recommend giving it a go, just hope they can increase their bar service - the one, but very important point to survive in the very competitive Melboure market.
Meal was nice, but staff need to explain seating options better when booking. Upstairs is walk up bar service only.
Nice hotel, downstairs dining room comfortable. Waitress was busy, we waited a while to order but very friendly once with us. Chicken parmigiana very average, wouldn't order it here agin. Salad was just rocket. Served with curly fries, not great. Sweet potato dumplings had no flavour.
Food was sensational. Chicken parma with the drumstick attached was amazing. The burger was cooked to perfection.
A relaxed atmosphere with good food and plenty of drinks to chose from
Good experience overall.
Was looking for a place to have dinner before the soccer and it was just perfect for what we were looking for.
great food, great staff.
