The Walnut Tree
We look forward to seeing you.
Fantastic food, and service. Thank you
Waited over an hour and a half for our meal which was a preprepared lasagna. Lasagna was homemade and good but the service just was non existent. Can't understand what the delay was. No explanation or apology. Had to keep asking where the food was. I had read service was slow but we arrived just after 1pm. Only one other table eating (2 people) so they weren't rushed. Didn't get to eat until after 2.30pm which felt like the middle of the afternoon.
Delicious food and a lovely restaurant/pub. Staff very friendly and helpful thank you.
The quality and portion size of the food was very good but we had to wait for nealy an hour before the food was served. The waiter did apologise for the wait!
Thank you Walnut Tree team, our Sunday carvery experience was absolutely spot on! Darcy looked after us well and when she left for the day a young man whose name escapes me (I'm sorry) ably took over.
The beef was perfectly cooked and delicious and congratulations on getting the pork crackling just right!
Oh, there were two negatives, the roast pots were too brown and too soft on the outside for my liking and my friend agreed with me that the berry sherry trifle was nice but it seemed to be almost only blackcurrants and we couldn't taste any sherry at all (perhaps chef had had a sneaky swig? 😋)
We were impressed by the loo too? I love that sink and those taps!
We tried this place again but on a week night and we did book in advance. When we got there only two staff on duty on bar/ table service. Had to ask for menus ! Walk in groups were told there would be a delay on food of approx 30/40 mins as the chef would serve booked tables first. Ok we thought , we’ve booked so shouldn’t be a long wait , 55 minutes later our food turned up. Food was fine but not up to previous standard . We did voice our concerns re the wait for food and were advised they have an agency chef at the moment and they can’t cope with volume of orders etc. We were the only table in the bar and the restaurant was equally quiet. Note to owner !!! You need to invest in a proper chef and have sufficient staff if you are going to make a success of this venue. We will leave it for a while before trying again , hopefully it will improve in time. By the way both walk in groups walked out without ordering !! Enough said
It’s a nice old pub with features. The restaurant part was a bit empty when we first got there, but soon filled up. The service was a bit slow at the start— we didn’t get menus for ages!
Food ok and reasonably priced, but shocked at having to pay £9.80 for lge glass of ordinary white wine!!
Booked a table in the restaurant got sited in the Bar. Table not cleaned or cleared before we sat down, still not cleaned after we sat down. Door to access the toilets wedged open ( not the best of smells ) to allow easy access from the kitchen. Menus greasy, we had to find the Wine list and specials menu ourselves.
Food simple but well cooked. It did take over 30mins for our starter to arrive and even longer for our mains. Our plates were cleared quickly but we weren't asked if we wished to see the desert menu.
After another 40mins a waiter appeared and just stood in front of us, nothing....so i asked for the bill.
Very dissapointing experiance. We had read about the pub/restaurant being taken over and were looking forward to our meal.
We won't be back.
We went on a Friday evening and took friends with us as we’ve been several times since it reopened and never had any problems. However I would not go on a Friday evening again ! Took an hour to get our starters , some of us we had the smoked chicken brusetta . the Brusetta was extremely hard and although the topping was tasty the toast was hard as nails and therefore unappetising. One of our party had the garlic bread which was anaemic and not very nice. My husband had the ribs as a main and although tasty was a very small portion and not worth the price. Someone else in the restaurant sent their steak back as it was overdone. All in all a very disappointing evening as we had been raving how good it had been on previous visits. They need to have more staff in the kitchen and sort the service out if you want to be successful. I heard several diners complaining about the wait for food !! It won’t put us off trying again but not at the weekend.
Service was a little slow but the restaurant was quite busy and food hopefully being freshly cooked.
The place is really well appointed and serves very good real ale. The ladies behind the bar were very friendly and pleasant. However, there appears to be a real lack of management control...we waited for an hour and a half to get our food. Nobody bothered to come and apologise for the wait or explain what the issue was. Other tables were also complaining. One group of four paid for their drinks but not their starter and left after waiting such a long time for their main course. After complaining that my steak was overcooked and dry and that we had waited so long for it we were give £18 off a £68 bill with very little in the way of an apology or explanation. A young lady told me she was in charge but had to go "out the back" twice in order to obtain even that discount. I actually wish I had simply paid 50% of my bill and left...we were REALLY disappointed as we were really looking forward to trying the pub / restaurant now that it has been renovated. Unfortunately they missed numerous opportunities to persuade us to give them another try!!
Although we booked the restaurant it was full when we arrived so we were seated in the bar area.
The beef and roast spuds were delicious although everything could have done with being a little hotter.
The carvery was was the best in the area by far, the service was excellent very relaxing atmosphere highly recommend
The food was freshly cooked and delicious the lady behind the bar was very friendly and accommodating will definitely go back!
We sat in the bar , fairly quiet and you could have a conversation. Menu was very varied and what we had tasted lovely. The chef came out at the end of the evening to enquire what we thought of the food which we thought was a nice touch. We will definitely be returning and have recommended it to friends and family. Another place to add to our list as we like to eat out regularly.
Couldn't recommend enough. It was our first visit since it reopened. It was friendly, suitable for families 100%. The carvery was unbelievable, the chef worked some kind of magic on the beef.... It was amazing. Thank you for a lovely Sunday afternoon.
We visited on Father’s Day and after queuing out the door I had to go and ask a member if the waiting team what was going on. Once she eventually came back she explained the table was running over and they offered us a complimentary round of drinks in the bar whilst we waited.
Once seated the service was terribly slow with only 1 member of the team showing a determination to get things done. Can’t say the rest had a bad attitude but they just weren’t attentive or chatty at all. The food however was lovely. We all had the carvery and the meat was outstanding.
I would go back as we did enjoy your visit however I won’t be going for a special occasion as didn’t feel I would get the service to go with the occasion.
I understand they were busy at the time but it felt like they had enough staff to deal with the situation they just need some customer care training.
