The vail bar is a great space to have a fantastic meal. I ordered the beef tartare and the smoked fettuccine they were both absolutely delicious. Also the wine and cocktail menu is excellent. Don’t pass it up.
Our first trip to the Vail Bar at Jockey Hollow was not a disappointment. Rather the service was excellent, wine, cocktail, and beer list albeit pricey and more like Manhattan prices, were very good. The menu at the bar is quite varied and interesting. Note portions are on the small side for many entrees and everything is ala carte. While I would heartily recommend I'd also warn that you'd better be prepared to spend a few dollars if your stay for a full dining experience. Make reservations, the tables in the Vail bar are limited. Particularly on nights where the theatre has events.
The food was exceptional and the service couldn't have been better! Waitress was incredibly knowledgable about our wine and the menu. Delicious! Loved the Vail Bar- cozy and perfect on a winter night!
Very over priced for selection of foods available. What was available was ok, lukewarm pancakes and pork along with runny omelets. Service was horrible. Took over 10 minutes to have waiter take drink order once seated and nobody checked on us once to see if needed/wanted anything in an hour and a half. In fact had to go up to bartender to get check and bring him my card, which he left out on the open bar for all to see.
Food was uncharacteristically mediocre and disappointing
Service was good but food was very average. No unique flavors .
New Years eve
Fun NYE prefixed menu and fun cocktails!
Vail Bar - quaint and enjoyable
Had such a fun time! This was my first time in. I was drawn by the reputation, excited for the menu and very pleased with the service. I highly recommend the "Vodka, Not Too Sweet" if you're looking for a cocktail that fits the name and like grapefruit. I also recommend the Shishito Peppers because they are like none other, super indulgent and you also can't go wrong with the Traditional Beef Tartare. I hope you check it out!
One of the entrees wasn’t to write home about but the bread place and tortellini entree was amazingly delicious.
My evening at Jockey Hollow was absolutely terrible. The service was mediocre, my entree was bland and flavorless, and my girlfriend’s dinner was entirely inedible. She literally took 1 bite and couldn’t eat it. We are not picky or stuck up, so for her to send a meal back, it had to be absolutely awful. And rather than bring her another meal or replace it free of charge, the manager gave her a single scoop of vanilla ice cream with a cookie. I will NEVER return to or recommend Jockey Hollow!
Was not happy with the food or atmosphere. We went on a quiet night and were seated near a very cold window. The drinks and food were also overpriced- not worth the value. The meal was also subpar and we left hungry. Was told wonderful things about this restaurant but was not impressed.
New server, not great service, but always fun atmosphere, exciting bar, and great food. Try the beet salad!
Seats very uncomfortable. Noise level was such that you needed to shout to person next to you. Appetizer cheese tray was not worth it; 3 wedges of common cheese and some slices of toast. Entre was tasty, scallops were good but the 3 pieces of short rib filled pasta didn’t have any flavor. Waited too long between courses.
Our 17th anniversary dinner on a Sunday night. We have been here a few times and its usually crazy loud so I was happy that it was quiet but we were the only table at 7:45. I love the atmosphere at the Vail Bar and the drinks are great. The food this time was so/so. My husbands $22 burger was too salty for him. The beer he ordered was spoiled and caused him to have an upset stomach.
I had the lasagne and it was way too cheesy and over cooked. I think because it was Sunday night it was training night for the wait staff which is fine because the place was empty! When his burger was delivered the trainee was describing it and couldn’t remember what type of cheese was on it. Our waiter also seemed unsure of himself. That didn’t bother us but it definitely looked a bit sloppy for such a fine restaurant! I think we will try another place for our next special occasion dinner. : (
I was looking forward to mt first experience at the Jockey Hollow bar but was mildly disappointed by the experience. After booking a table for 8.15pm our party of 2 were finally seated at 9pm for dinner. We had pre drinks in the oyster bar while we waited which was pretty pleasant, with friendly attentive staff and delicious cocktails. After enquiring again about when our table would be ready we were finally taken into the vail bar for our dinner. I ordered the duck but wasn't overly impressed. There was a lot of duck breast not he plate and I don't think the corn bread made a good pairing. I wish I'd ordered a side of mashed potato or something. There are so many nice places in Morristown and the surrounding towns, I wouldn't rush back.
Top marks for ambiance and service. Food was very good - value for money, fresh and well presented - I’ve just had better tasting food in other places, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
Should not really have a tv with sporting events, way too noisey. We are in the Vail Bar and although the description was 1920s motif, music was current and loud
Take down the planes.
Having a reservation, I was offered a tiny table practically next to the bar up against a door/window. I refused and asked for a larger table for my husband and me. The hostess discouraged us from the nearest larger table since the blowers were over it. I then chose a table away from that one which was suitable. The food was very good, but our accompanying bottle of wine, which was white in a chilling bucket away from the table was rarely attentively served to us. Each time we had to signal for the waiter to pour more. The dinner was highly over priced for a mere loud, sports bar.
My wife and I did an early dinner before seeing a show at the MPAC next door. Both of us were disappointed, swordfish was the fish of the day and was served in a bowl with a very heavy tomato soup type preparation. My wife’s pork chop was over cooked. They asked us if we wanted bread and were charged for a bread platter. There’s a lot of places to eat in Morristown, Jockey Hollow is fine for drinks but the wrong place for dinner.
It was a trifecta. Fabulous service, knowledgeable bartender and delicious food.
Sat outside on a beautiful evening before a concert next door. We shared the seasonal tomato appetizer, a seasonal salad, and the swordfish special. Each dish was outstanding. All staff were very responsive and friendly. Overall excellent experience.
I took friends and family (party of 5) out for dinner and was overcharged for drinks and wine (over $100). I understand the mistake (busy restaurant, many servers, etc.) but it ruined the experience.
Food unfortunately was inedible (raw pork) and Was sent back to the kitchen. Replacement meal arrives in 25 minutes later after everybody had finished eating.
Great setting, service exceptional & food unique & very good.
Food and drinks were good although one guest’s burger was significantly over cooked (he asked for mid rare and got basically well done).
Overall great dining experience. The food, halibut and shrimp fusilli specials, was terrific as were the briny tasty oysters. Oyster crackers, disappointingly, were not available. As lifelong town residents, we truly enjoyed the outdoor setting reflecting back on the Vail Mansion with fish in the pool.
was greatly looking forward and was greatly disappointed. It started with a simple iced teas that arrived warm and "cloudy" - one sip and I asked the waiter to take it back - assuming he would delete it from the bill. We ordered the special prime rib for two - it took over an hour - yet our waiter kept letting us know our "rib eye" would arrive shortly. Rib eye? Prime rib? Does he not know the difference? after the lengthy wait - finally the first bite - COLD - extremely disappointing. In fairness, the manager tried to make amends by picking up our drinks. The bill arrives - still charged for the ICED TEA - it was the money, but the principal that the waiter did not remove. Still debating if I will go back - a very disappointing experience.
Snobby, tiny portions, over priced. We were literally still hungry when we left. Upscale doesn’t have to be pretentious.
Our waiter was excellent.
The food was ok. The oysters were overpriced for what was served.
Great ambiance in a beautiful setting, very convenient for dinner before s show at MPAC. Menu is small but interesting!
Service was terrible
Food was cold, bland and overpriced. Service was slow. They also sat us at the tiniest little table I’ve ever seen. We barely fit 2 plates on it.
We have eaten at Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen many times but this our first in the Vail Bar...and we will return again and again. The atmosphere is welcoming and our table at the window just perfect, Service was excellent - professional, caring and on top of all of our wants. The wine list is extraordinary and the food superb. The Waygu Beef Tartare (shared as an appetizer) was the best either of us have ever had. It is also served as a 'Small Dish' on the menu as were other choices and that appeals because the only down-side to this excellent dining experience were the VERY large portion sizes - neither of us could come close to finishing our dinners, which was a shame because they were both delicious. The Carbonara made with house-made pasta was creamy and rich and the Ocean Trout over Red Quinoa was perfect in every way except the portion size was enough for 2 people. We look forward to dining at the Vail Bar soon as there were many items on the menu that appealed - but we may have to share our entrees as well as the appetizer. The wine choice of the Sommelier accompanied both of our meals perfectly...and on Sundays they are offering bottles at 1/2 off right now...too good to pass up. The entire Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen is our 'go-to' restaurant!!
took the family for Easter brunch. 3-course Prix fix menu. Food was great. Service was wonderful. Overall another great experience at Jockey Hollow.
Went for an early (6:00) dinner, pre-show at MAYO. Had a reservation, but sat at the bar instead. Shared the cheese plate, always a winner. My oysters were outstanding. I ordered the small plate Octopus, was disappointed but realized I should I read the menu closer, I thought it would be grilled but it was in a stew. Husband's burger was great. The wine the bartender suggested since they don't have Pinot Grigio was very good, my husbands Manhattan was exceptional and was fun to watch them prepare.
The service was impeccable. The only downside in my opinion was the noisiness of the bar environment, which is uncontrollable. The food was interesting and served beautifully.
