The Travellers Rest
Honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in this style of pub/restaurant. Staff are so friendly and keen to please, if you mention something isn’t quite right they quickly try to put it right without making a fuss. The quality and portion size is excellent and in line with price. Love the fact that it’s dog friendly too. Highly recommend the Sunday roasts
Such a shame,
the starters where ok very much on the small side
We ordered the beef Wellington to share, when it arrived on first glance it looked like we where going to have a great meal unfortunately it wasn’t.
The whole of the under side of the pastry was raw all tho the fillet it self was a great size maybe too big it very under cooked and barely warm though out.
Only a coating of sauce which coated the vegetables at the bottom
We where asked if everything was ok which we replied it’s very under cooked and the manger it would seem replied with that’s how it’s cooked which left us a bit speechless not nice at all.
Just to add we where never asked if we wanted another drink after our first ones had finished and I asked for some extra sauce for the Wellington and the waitress came back and said the chef will have to make it are you ok waiting 5 minutes or so I said yes 5/6mins had past and I received a sauce jug filled with what I can only describe as hot water with some beef bouillon in not edible at all
The bill was £90 for the 2 of us defiantly not what we where expecting of the venue after it being recommended to us
Plentiful menu, plenty of variety, nice balance of quality and portion size, price about right I would say. A good experience.
The food was outstanding, as was the service. Disappointed though, that havin checked the bill properly after leaving, I had been over-charged £17.80, presumably for someone elses food or drinks. My fault as I should have check the bill more clearly; and it was too much trouble to have to go all the way back to the TR. Otherwise, very good.
Service was a bit slow but I think there were several new staff. Food was tasty but potatoes on roast slightly undercooked
Easy to book. Food always great. Friendly staff and value for money
Had a nice meal at the travellers rest however a few of our meals came with bits missing and the presentation wasn’t up to its usual standards. The girls were very helpful to rectify but I feel for the price of the meals we shouldn’t of had to chase missing bits . We had a fantastic meal there last October so hopefully this experience was just a one of we will return and hopefully it will be back to its normal standards .
Unbelievable as always, made it even better being greeted by bulldog pups
Lovely atmosphere. The food was a bit pricey. The gammon Sunday Roast was lovely unfortunately I found my Angus beef a bit chewy and red
Food was great and for the quality very well priced very good service and was dog friendly
Fantastic service and amazing food!
Great place for family’s.
Staff can’t do enough to make you feel welcome.
Too expensive for what you got served
Sourdough bread beef baguette too hard not what we expected not good wont be going again
Food was top quality. The service was fantastic and very friendly. As for the prices, very reasonable. Will definitely be returning here in the near future!
Things to add, food was overused for what it was , there were no condiments in the table so we’d eaten half our meal before anybody came back before we could ask for salt.
The service wasn’t the fastest, not really much atmosphere as it was quiet and as this was a Saturday afternoon, the place should be heaving you’d think?
Slightly snooty reception on arrival.
Didn’t get asked if we’d like any desserts.
Staff in general were all mainly 16-18, and I’d personally prefer it if they were older and more experienced…although it’s cheaper to hire under 21s so that’ll be the reason behind that.
Drinks were expensive.
It’s a shame really as we were looking forward to it, and expecting it to be the same as it was in the past. It was all a bit of an anticlimax, as we came out there thinking “that wasn’t the best. I don’t think we’ll be coming back in a hurry.
We’re not cheap skates by a long shot, and don’t expect to be paying Wetherspoon’s prices in every place we visit, but the prices should really match quality, and I don’t think it did on this occasion, sadly.
Great spot, excellent service and food, defo be back again to try some different food
The food was delicious, so tasty and fantastic portion sizes. Not the cheapest for a family of four, but well worth it. The service was slow, waiting a long time for the food to be served, but when with family, chatting away, it's not a hardship and the meal more than made up for it. Would definitely visit again.
We have dined here 3 times in the last 4 days. I have to say that the experience has been fantastic. The menu and quality of food is excellent, the staff are both courteous and uber attentive. Whilst I have eaten here with my partner, son and daughter not all at the same time. I have always had my Dachsund with me and the staff have been very dog friendly. I am not one to normally leave comments but credit where credits due, an excellent eatery !! 5 stars from me !
The waiters should perhaps understand the menu abit more but I appreciate covid has hindered this. The food was mostly very good. 1 person who had steak said it was the best he had ever tasted and cut like butter. Only issue was it didnt appear to be 10oz. The menu isnt for everyone. The 'fussy' eaters may struggle. Deserts were devine.
Absolutely fantastic all the staff went out of there way amazing night!
Lovely food and staff
First visit here for a number of years and the food was great, however the service was slow despite the place not being full. Lots of service staff milling around, but slow for drinks and food which came almost an hour after we arrived, but that may just be down to post covid rustiness and it would not put me off from going again.
Slow service due to several issues. Well worth the wait.
Excellent food, great service and reasonably priced.
Fantastic staff and the food was out of this world, the beef wellingtons were amazing
Lovely food and great service - would recommend thank you
Excellent, friendly, easy will come again
Excellent service on every aspect. Thank you very much.
Incredibly slow service due to new food and drink ordering app that didn't work. Terrible bar staff who didn't know how to garnish a Hendrick's gin correctly. Background music too loud. Overcooked food. Other than that it was great!
Food overpriced for the quality, service a little slow .
Overall the food was good and the hostess was very polite and apologetic when our table wasn't ready so we had to sit at the front for a bit, but the night was ruined a bit by being served a drink in a glass that still had lipstick on it in these times, and one particularly loud and sweary group of people outside with us in the Secret Garden who kept making comments about us while we were eating and nobody seemed to ask them to quieten down. As said food was good, I would visit again but not while COVID-19 is still having an impact as the ambience was ruined a bit unfortunately.
Ordering via online a bit of a pain due to fact cant order sides for meal and cant order mixers for drinks. Cost me £7.75 for a double gin and lemonade as had to order lemonade seperately as a pint, however not a pints worth of lemondae in drink. Other than the ordering process everything was bang on great food, great atmosphere and will definitely be back!
Absolutely incredible food; an amazing local ‘pub’! The chefs really do cook 5* food and the service is amazing. A lovely post-lockdown treat in the secret garden.
We booked approx two weeks prior to our visit. We had been twice in the past two weeks. The experience was only ok, a couple were seated before us and were asked where they would like to be seated. When we were seated we were told were to sit. When booking on open table I was asked of it was a special occasion, I said it was a birthday (my husbands). However ther was no acknowledgement of this, however the guests who were seated directly after us, had a birthday and were greeted with ‘happy Birthday ‘ made a fuss of etc. The service was disorganised, but this had been the case on our previous visit. On this occasion we didn’t need to use the app as our orders were taken from the waiter. We were asked for drinks order but no drinks menu, the waiter had no knowledge what was available. the starter & mains were great. We asked for a further glass of wine that was served to another couple, the waitress criticised the waiter to us for putting the wrong table number !! We asked for our bill three times and after 25 mins waiting we finally received our bill that was incorrect, the waiter amended it and it was still incorrect. In all honesty we were glad to leave, the poor service totally ruined my husbands birthday meal ☹️
Although there was a slight delay getting our table due to circumstances out of anyone’s control the hostess was amazing and very apologetic. The food was absolutely incredible and we were given free drinks to thank us for our patience.
I will definitely be returning hopefully in the next few weeks
Thank you for your hard work and making our experience special even in current circumstances.
Excellent good and lovely setting - nice touch with the blankets and heaters outside and we will definately be visiting again
Excellent food, service was a little slow to start off with but this is understandable considering they were so busy and a little out of practice the staff made us feel very welcomed brining us blankets and extra heaters.
Service was a little slow but I think they’d been very busy all day and I appreciate it’s all new.
However the staff were very friendly and the food was lovely. The outdoor area was great and we were given blankets and heaters put on when it got chilly.
Awesome from start to finish
Excellent rump bbq burger - very tasty and very good value too
Best burger in the world!
Even during these testing times.. to deliver such quality is amazing!
Very good value for money and generous portions!
Well done travellers rest team!
👍😬 can't wait to order again
