The Stone Trough
We pride our self on being accessible, whilst dishes on the main menu can cost from £14.00 to £20.00, there's a delicious take on pub classics that cost around the £10.00 mark, packed with drinkers and eaters alike.
Up in the Restaurant there is a more subtle affair, serving plates of food designed to reflect the wonderful local produce. We aim to combine the traditional local pub with a a top-notch dining destination. A melting pot of local’s who want to avoid the chore of cooking, alongside those looking to have a blow out meal celebrating all sorts of events.
Most importantly dogs & muddy boots welcome!

First visit to the place so had looked at menu on the website. Was looking forward to ordering 2 dishes in particular and so was very disappointed to discover that the current menu was not the same. My 2 dishes had disappeared!
We ended up ordering other dishes which were quite average. Nice place with a good ambience but they need to update the menu on their website when it changes to avoid potential disappointment.
Fantastic great food lovely setting, good service
Very good meal but service let them down (we were forgotten!). Did make good attempt to recover from this, and it was a busy day.
Lovely meal, value for money, lovely staff, beautiful area
Nice atmosphere, but service was a little poor. Took about 30 mins for us to get our drink. However food came out quick and was delicious. Brilliant view as well.
Come on, why the minimum. Good to very good is enough surely.
Lovely food in a lovely setting. My only disappointment was that the fried chicken some pieces were on the bone. I think this should have been clearer on the menu.
The conservatory is a lovely place to dine and see the views. Very friendly and helpful staff
Great experience. Staff were working very hard but remained calm, polite and helpful. Was really saddened to hear they were having to pay for spillages out of their tips, especially when the spillage was a consequence of working really hard to get a lot of drinks orders out in a timely fashion!
Enjoyed the roast beef Sunday lunch even though it was a boiling hot day! We were lucky to get a table in the bar out of the sunshine!
Lovely, attentive staff and beautiful views. Food was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Warm welcome, attentive prompt service, food cooked to perfection, wonderful vista, yes the weather helped but this was a 4 star experience.
Loved it, the new outside area is lovely, can be covered or not, sides go up and down. The food is always fantastic, lovely wine, we had a really nice evening
Beautiful setting and the food was lovely
The service was quite slow but they only had 1 person taking orders. He was very personable so it didn’t matter too much…he didn’t seem to have very capable staff.
Second visit to the Stone Trough. We went for lunch and were seated in the new conservatory (new to us) which has great views over the river valley in this lovely rural location. Service was prompt (althgough not very busy when we were there) and the food was excellent. All in all a great place to go. Also dog friendly.
Conservatory very pleasant and well ventilated
Possibly more staff required at busy times but I understand that hiring is difficult
Really tasty, fresh food with a lovely view. Will definitely be back next time we are in the vicinity!
Great food, fantastic service, in a beautiful setting and at a very reasonable price. One of our absolute favorite Sunday lunch pubs!!
Bit disappointed with our meals. Far too many chips especially with the crispy chicken which also had absolutely nothing else with it, definitely requires a salad garnish at least. Beautiful view but we were also cold. Expected to be inside. Unfortunately not somewhere I would go back to.
Amazing food, service and views. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely venue beautiful location delightful staff great food
The food was lovely, the views are lovely.
What a shame like so many places they were short staffed.
The staff were curtious and apologetic and were obviously really busy.
Won’t stop me going again though
Food was good was disappointed after. Been shown to our table then had to wait 25 minutes for someone to ask for our drinks order
Excellent food and service. Sat in conservatory overlooking countryside. Plenty of room and space between tables so felt very safe. Will certainly return.
Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast. The service was very efficient & friendly, and the food was gorgeous. I’m normally not a fan of sticky toffee pudding but theirs was delicious! Would definitely recommend!
Staff very friendly and accommodating food nice very fresh all home cooked and great value for money we will be back again when in the area
Superb Sunday lunch.
Best roast beef I have ever had (I'm over 50, so that's a strong statement). Service fantastic and beautiful restaurant and views!!
Excellent meal as always. Would highly recommend. Very covid safe.
Wonderful extension which allows for outside dining, while protecting customers from the elements. Very friendly staff, seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were happy with our food choices. The fish pie was deliciously cheesy (and fishy!) and the very tasty mini kebabs starter was enough for a main course with an added side salad. The chicken in the Caesar salad was a touch dry. The presentation of all dishes was excellent.
Will definitely be back.
We love visiting the stone trough, the Sunday lunch is the best around
We always enjoy our meals here. This visit was different because of the Covid situation. The food excelled as always and Charlotte our waitress was everything you could wish for in a hostess. The greeting at reception was very congenial and a pleasant experience. We are very unlikely to ever stop visiting The Stone Trough as the standards never fall and the beer is always well kept. Food is always of a high quality and very well cooked.
Excellent food, great service and beautiful surroundings, I would highly recommend the Stone Trough
We always return to the Stonetrough when on holiday in Yorkshire and have been visiting for many many years.
However on this particular visit we were disappointed with the standard of the food.
Such a lovely place, and very handy that it’s dog friendly :) the food was delicious, fresh and tasty, the staff were really lovely and helpful. We will definitely be back - even just for a mango cider! Mmmm
Excellent experience. Attentive service, lovely setting and great food.
A good welcome, immediately shown to our table. Drinks brought without delay. Good choice of menu and meals well cooked, only a short time to wait for the food.
Service was slow never brought condiments as requested! Fish pie was dry
Nice venue and prices good
Unfortunately the service was very slow. Had to wait for over 25 minutes before we had our drinks order taken. We ordered the food at the same time as we had had more than enough time to look at the menu.
The food was freshly cooked and was tasty.
Great food, lovely setting and friendly helpful staff. We will definitely be back.
This was our first time eating at The Stone Trough and it won’t be our last!!
I had the Sunday roast and I have never tasted beef as good!! (Believe me I like to eat out often!)
The children’s meals were delicious and to a high standard! Two course for £7! An absolute steal!
The adults menu had a great choice and not too overwhelming!! Three course for £18 or two courses for £16!!
We actually didn’t think the food would be of such a high standard when we saw the prices but believe me the prices didn’t reflect the quality of the food!
Such a relaxing atmosphere, lovely staff, all very welcoming!
We are looking forward to our next visit!
