The Smith - Chicago
Went for Dinner on a Friday night. Food was excellent. The disappointing issue was the noise level. We almost walked out but the front desk staff made an effort to seat us in a room slightly removed from the main dining area.
Too loud and service was not outstanding. Food also meh. Baguette was horrible. Latte tasted so yucky, I ordered plain coffee. This place has not found their sweet spot yet. Not going back. I took my leftovers and gave them to a homeless person outside
It was way too loud (people noise level). It was really hard hear the people sitting next to me. There is too much tile in the restaurant. Nothing to absorb all the noise.
Noise level was so bad we could not hear the person across from us. Seated at a table under a HVAC vent that was blowing cold air down onto our table, almost immediately making our entrees cold. Steaks were just ok, one person liked the schnizel and one person hated it. Tagliatelle bolognese was overcooked but the sauce was very good. Wine was short pours and overpriced for the quality. Not a fan of the bread or pretzel.
I love the space, the drinks are very energetic and surprisingly great, the food is spectacular, pricing is Downtown average but the noise level is SO BAD AND LOUD! Worst place I have been to in the city. People screaming at each other like 2 feet apart... really bad!
NYC is so much better! Sorry
Went to the one in NY after I proposed to my girlfriend.
Can to this one in Chicago with my fiancé, same amazing food and service. However, it was a bit busy and extremely loud because it was so busy. Still an amazing place for date night! Will be back again!!
The food was good and the service was attentive - but much too fast. Felt as if the food was being thrown at us and we were being rushed out. Also, SO LOUD!!! Incredibly difficult to have a conversation and definitely wouldn’t recommend this spot for more then just 2 people.
Great food, nice atmosphere, a little loud
Great food and service, had a great lunch, will definitely be back!
The Smith is too noisy, you cannot hear anyone at your table. Poor designed rooms.
the noise level was impossible.
we were there at 1245 perk lunch time
and we sat in the quietest section and
with that being said nipsie carries from
all over and distracted from our
enjoyment of our tasty meal and good
Good food, noice wasn’t as loud.
They have a one hour very limited menu from 4-5 on weekends that we were not aware of from the website. We left after sitting down when we realized we were so limited
Nice and easy place. Nice atmosphere. Good food.
Don't bother. A really nice looking, but fake wanna-be upscale place. Tiny portions (the half lobster was non-existant), untrained/inexperienced waitstaff ("I've never served that before so I don't know") and bad overpriced drinks. You can do much better at just about any of the 100 other restaurants in the area.
We had a great time, and our server was amazing, Not sue what her name was, but she was GREAT!
The Smith in NYC is one of my favorite spots (Columbus Circle). I was so excited when I heard they were opening a location in Chicago. We had a brunch reservation for 5 people at 1:30 pm. When we arrived, the restaurant was about 1/3 full. One of my friends couldn’t make it so it was just 4 people. They put us at a very small table. I’m 5’4” and weight 100 lbs and didn’t have enough room to cross my legs at the table. I was constantly kicking my 3 other friends’ legs under our small table. We asked to be moved to a booth so we could have more space. The waiter went to check on this request. About 20 minutes later, the hostess said all tables were taken. Not one group had sat at any of the 5 or 6 open booths we could see from our table the entire time we were there. We ordered chips .. potato chips .. to start. They didn’t arrive until after our entrees were delivered. One of my friends’ ordered the Cucumber Loco and it had a long black hair in it. Also the cucumber was not strained very well. It was almost like a thick cucumber smoothie. Two other girls had the What’s Up Doc which was disgusting. Something was off there. Not sure if they were using old ingredients. The service was extremely slow. Overall it was not a great experience. I am hoping they are able to work through some kinks so I can try it again. Like I said, I love The Smith, especially the Columbus Circle location.
We asked to sit where it wasn’t as noisy , we sat in the back food was great!!! Atmosphere was good !!!we just enjoyed ourselves and will returned
Sooo loud - can’t hear the person next to you. Good food
Disappointing service-took our waiter an unreasonably long time to bring bread, clear our plates, offer dessert, take care of our check. No apologies offered. I had previous good experiences here and brought a large group to try. Unfortunate...will not be returning for awhile.
Service and food were great. Problem was I could barely hear myself talk and the heater next to our table was blowing on a 95 degree day. We couldn’t figure out why we were warm until half way through our meal ... waitress said she would try and fix but sadly none came. Disappointed.
Way too loud in this restaurant.... couldn’t wait to get out of there. Otherwise, food, drinks and service were good.
The noise level at this restaurant on a Wednesday night was absolutely deafening - the most intense I have ever experienced. A business lunch would be literally impossible. It was difficult to relax, as I had to do so much shouting that my voice was hoarse by the time we left. The food was very good and the service was very attentive, but the busboys hovered too much, constantly asking if we were finished eating.
Loved the food and overall vibe. Great spot! Only compliant is noise level
Really fun space. Good menu and good food. It’s very loud so be prepared. Request a spot in the back right of the restaurant if you’re looking for a quieter area
Modern place, good vibe, creative food. Rowdy, energetic
Great menu in a textured update of Downtown Chicago. The vibe was wonderful, the Clark + Kinzie cocktail on tap a potent start. Will be back soon!
The first time I visited The Smith was great. Everything was great. This time... not so much. To start, we were not given knives. It happens. However, the server was nowhere to be found. Then, when we saw him, he went to every table, but ours. Even though we were waving frantically to get him. By the time he came over, the food was cold. Then I asked for some ice for my drink and the server forgot about it and didn’t bring it until I had finished. They need to get more servers or train them better. It was a terrible experience.
Decent food, service was attentive. The portions are huge - if you like that. But, I wouldn't mind if they cut the portion sizes somewhat and the price. Average for brunch is around $15 entree and they're running a special right now that includes a cocktail with the brunch entrees (our Bloody Mary's were prepared well and spicy - not watered down, as I've seen with other "specials").
Group of 6. Service was good. Food and drinks are great. The chips starters are amazing.
Everything was good, but I had shells in my seafood pasta and the oysters were not cleaned well. Also there should be prices based on the dozen.
Great ambiance. Great food. Great wait staff
The service was excellent. Logan took extra special care of us for our anniversary. She was welcoming, friendly and so accommodating.
The sheik and grits were fantastic and the potato chips were outstanding!
Great experience! Food is really good. Little pricey, but good value
The service here is ridiculously slow. I went when they first opened and the service was slow then, but I chalked it up to just opening and still getting used to it. I just went again - months after opening - and the service was just as slow. They weren't even busy (there were maybe 6 tables seated at most) and it took close to 15 minutes to get one drink. Our food took almost an hour to come out, and here's the best part...all we ordered was two salads. I really want to like this place, but they need to get their service in line.
We waited over 20 minutes for a server. Many walked by but no one waited on us. We finally got a manager to take our order. The food was good, but nothing spectacular and definitely not worth the wait.
Loudest restaurant I have ever been in. Server knew little about the menu nor wine. Drinks really slow out of bar. Feels like this place is making it on reputation
Excelente lugar. El mozo que nos atendió increíblemente amable. El lugar tiene un ambiente genial. Tanto de día como de noche !
Waaaay too loud. Couldn’t hear clients. Couldn’t hear waitress. Awful
The interior design was beautiful, and ambience was great. The disappointment part was that food was pricy for nothing that was really special. The salmon I had was very bland. The burger my friend had a little over cooked. We were also there for a birthday dinner and wanted something quiet and intimate, so we could catch up but our conversation were constantly interrupted by the wait staff.
